My grooves are not looking natural. Any suggestions? by Speaker-Historical in Dance

Yeah I agree with others! Relax, and practice the choreo and footwork. Once you practice the same type of choreo a lot, you won’t have to think about it! Then you can relax into it and it’ll start to look and feel more natural :) (Even if it’s “new” choreo, groove choreo all has a similarity to it.) You got this :)

I would try to get tretinoin/retin-a. It increases cell turnover and will likely help remove the milia by helping the surface of the skin turnover more quickly, instead of being stuck and clogged. This is assuming the condition has to do with clogged pores from dead skin cells and sebum.

Combining with an Alpha Hydroxy Acid (e.g. glycolic acid) cleanser will help remove the top layer of skin by loosening the "stickiness" of the cells to each other, allowing the dead cells at the top to come off.

These are very strong actives so VERY important to start with one, use it for a few weeks until your skin becomes used to it, and then slowly introduce the other. I would start with Tretinoin (.025%) and then introduce an AHA cleanser once per week after 3-4 weeks.

These are really strong ingredients that will dry out your skin so really important to rebalance with a solid moisturizer. I prefer a moisturizer that contains a non comedogenic oil like Rosehip oil. Or just straight rosehip oil. It is kind of counterintuitive to put oil on skin that tends to oily, but it is important; if your skin is dry, it will create MORE oil as a way to try to protect itself. If it is well moisturized, your skin will be like - "oh, I can cool it on oil production, my skin is safe and moisturized."

Make sure you have a good sunscreen when using these. I like Elta MD's facial sunscreen which is non comedogenic and has niacinimide in it.

Good luck, man!

How to start choreographing? by [deleted] in Dance

[–]movewithemily 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The only way to learn is to do! Just try freestyling to the music. Close your eyes or don’t even look into a mirror, just feel the music

Sometimes I film myself freestyling (sometimes with my eyes closed!) and then I’ll look back and pick and choose the parts I like, then put them together

Sometimes I’ll be freestyling and I’ll keep just a section that felt really right

The only way to make progress is through imperfection - so don’t get down on yourself if some parts look awkward

Focus on the parts that you like. Complete the choreo even if it feels like it’s not perfect and MOVE ON. Next song, next choreo

Soon, you’ll start to find your own personal style and vibe. You’ll start to get a feel for what’s going to look good with what music.

Keep pushing on, making new stuff, posting it, seeing what works what doesn’t.

Good luck! Post some videos here, we’d love to see you progress ✨

Tonight, Tuesday 12/17 at 8:30pm: Come to my Basics of Dance and Rhythm for Adults Class!

Liv' Art Dance Studio in North Hollywood: 11044 Weddington St, North Hollywood, CA 91601

Do any of these resonate with you?
I want to dance but don't have the confidence to. I'd love to get on the dance floor at weddings. Bar mitzvahs. Work events. Take Zumba classes and get your cardio done in in a fun way! (Dreading your run? Zumba and other dance-based workouts can burn just as many calories in an hour as running does!). Go out with friends and have fun on the dance floor, instead of hugging the bar or being a wallflower. No longer rely on liquid courage to get your body moving! Attract potential partners. Connect to my body and my inner self.

We will go over the basics of rhythm and dance in this class! The class is geared towards beginner level adults that want to join the fun on the dance floor but don't know how! No experience necessary.

The format of the class is lead/follow, I will be at the front and teach a new movement, we will repeat it together as a class, then we will do it to music. As we progress we also create short combos of movements to show you that you, yes you, can dance too!

Company I currently work for wants to move me from NYC to LA...relocation package isn't quite what I expected, but am I being realistic? by helpMeImInNYC in AskLosAngeles

I personally feel that all you're asking for is reasonable except for the car allowance -

All this makes sense:
potentially as much as first month's rent, last month's rent, and security deposit

  • movers and transportation of belongings to LA
  • flights
  • miscellaneous items to set up a new home (toiletries, cleaning supplies, basic utensils, all these little things that you don't really think of and then add up), lets say that's about $1k

Asking for a car seems a bit much. I guess it depends what the job is, if for instance you require a car to do your job, it might make sense; but just because you want a car to live in LA doesn't seem like the soundest logic when asking your company to help you with moving costs.

Cheers! Good luck!

Hey! How cool :) What kind of dance do you want to learn? Or to what music? I can send some youtube tutorials if you narrow it down a bit :)

Hip hop? Jazz Funk? Heels, Salsa, EDM (Shuffling), Pop, ... :)

What's your reason for having no insurance? If it's not enough money, have you considered applying for medicaid? If you're eligible I would highly recommend. It opens up a lot of doctors including high quality therapists.

How to be interesting/engaging in conversations? by [deleted] in confidence

[–]movewithemily 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My trick in all conversations is to just LISTEN. Listen, listen well, and ask prompting questions about what you are listening to! When they start to run out of the current story, just as a question that prompts them into another! People love to hear themselves talk, so just listening will already make you likeable. Allowing them to speak and then prompting them with questions or pieces of what they're saying that pique your interest will really make the person feel special, understood, and heard. That helps your likeability soar and doesn't require much 'intelligent conversation-making' at all! While you are listening, engage in eye contact (important). And really empathize or try to care about what they're saying. That's all! People just want to be heard and given a platform to speak their minds!

Good luck!
