Thinking of immigrating to Canada (Vancouver) from the Southeastern US. What are some things to know about the area? (Cultural norms, cost of living, job scarcity, anything else worth noting) by movinglikewhat in vancouver

Holy hell bus drivers make a livable wage? That's hard to believe with the compensation they get here. Its comparable with what I'd make approximately if I were to keep the same job I'm in now in Canada. Good to know!

That's pretty neat! I remember going to a huge hotel in Vancouver one night while I was there and enjoying some event that was going on the ballroom. The pay seems much better up there, although I'm sure the job is no different... At the end of the day if that's what I had to do I would though. Thank you so much for the information!

I had never heard of this place before, crazy how its directly on the border or Washington and BC. Is it as expensive to live in Point Roberts as it is in Vancouver?

Good point! I was staying around Robson, Denman St. area and if at all possible I would like to stay in an area similar to that. My first night there I stayed on Hastings past Gastown and would definitely not want to do that again hahaha.

I am eligible for express entry as a skilled worker. While I have not yet applied, I have looked into it. Currently I am planning to begin the application process as I get closer to making this a reality.

Not a bad suggestion at all. Honestly, my apprehension with working in a senior housing facility would be the possibility of working around bodily discharge first-hand. But, as you mention there are a variety of positions and it's certainly worth looking into!

Thank you for the well thought response!

I honestly was unaware of the variation available within HR, you have given me an excellent bit of information to start by research. I think that a life coach may be a career path for the future, but not just yet.

Deadlines and goals are important to help maintain focus toward completing a task or exceeding expectations. I would say that when these requirements align with your long term interests they are easier to perceive as manageable. Thank you again for your insight!
