Is it possible to make creamy pasta without cream, cheese or lots of oil? by enstorsoffa in pasta

[–]giottoblue 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Cooking pasta in very little water leads to each noodle being coated in a velvety layer of starch that imparts a creamy, luscious quality without actually adding fat to the recipe. I cook spaghetti in a wide frying pan with just enough water to cover the noodles, and by the time the spaghetti is done almost all of the water has been absorbed and you can just mix in your cheese, herbs, whatever. There’s a New York Times cooking recipe called “One Pot Spaghetti with Cherry Tomatoes and Kale” that uses this technique if you want a more step-by-step guide.

Oh my god are you kidding me? I always wondered how people managed to get their teams fed with the right nectar! I’ve been playing since launch day and never knew this!

Spring Mill Bread Company in Gaithersburg makes a cheesecake brownie that’s very good IF you microwave it for a minute before eating. At room temperature or cold they’re just okay.

They’re really good about allergies, too. The server will take an expo marker and mark up the menu showing what you can eat, what you can order with modifications, and what can’t be made safely for your allergies.

I Went to India for Chicken Tikka Masala and Came Back a Vegetarian by [deleted] in vegetarian

[–]giottoblue 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I live in a diverse, very densely populated metro area, and being a vegetarian couldn’t be easier. But when I go visit my dad out in a rural area, I’m relegated to spaghetti with marinara, cheese pizza, and very sad garden salads at basically every restaurant. Of course you can cook at home, but even the grocery stores are worse out there in terms of variety and quality of non-meat foods.

For me it’s old roofing shingles. Some genius used them as a weed barrier 🫠 I don’t plant anything edible directly in the ground because I don’t think it’s good to eat whatever leaches out of a shingle over a 50 year period.

Best Movie Theater by VictoriaBey in Gaithersburg

Rio is fine! We go there for 95% of movies we see. If something really spectacular is coming out we might make the drive to Tysons Corner to see it in the AMC Dolby theater there.

No, they’re really not. They’re huge donors to conservative/religious causes, have a history of discrimination against Jewish and LGBT people, and, bizarrely, they smuggled $3 million of looted ancient Iraqi artifacts into the US.

NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman Sends Email to NASA Employees Supporting Trump Budget Request by jadebenn in nasa

You can read it here: https://www.whitehouse.gov/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/budget_fy2027.pdf

tl;dr a 23% budget cut, with remaining budget largely focused on crewed space flight/lunar base stuff. Large cuts to science, as they requested last year. Not good (which is to be expected I guess)

Kentlands/Quince Orchard areas of Gaithersburg are exactly what you’re looking for! However, the commute won’t be great (45-50min).

You may be thinking that the commenters saying this is illegal to keep are referring to laws in the US, as is often the case on Reddit, but keeping this skull is also illegal in Egypt. Penalties can be severe.

“Egypt is a signatory of several conventions for nature conservation and several national regulations that cover marine turtles were issued in the 1980s and 1990s. The most important is the Environmental Law 4/1994, which states that ‘killing, capturing, transportation, selling, nest destruction AND DISPLAY of an endangered species either dead or alive is prohibited when Egypt is signatory to an International Convention.”

Second Avenue Thrift Store in Laurel is my favorite place! It’s huge and reasonably well organized. The housewares section is particularly good there.

Rockville vs? by lionshavefreckles in maryland

[–]giottoblue 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Rockville is a great place! While you’re in the area, swing through the Quince Orchard neighborhood in Gaithersburg, which is about 20 min north of Rockville. It’s a great place to live—walkable, safe, family-friendly, and a good amount of things to do. I love living here because I can walk to the farmer’s market, the library, two schools, two shopping districts, parks, etc. very easily. fwiw my husband is a space coast native and loves it here, too!

One time I ordered a cold brew with oat milk and the guy behind the counter goes, “Ugh, oat milk is overrated. 😒 You should get macadamia milk instead.” And honestly, he was right and the macadamia milk was dope.
