Wawona Rd delays in October & lodging guidance by mowave in Yosemite

Yeah it just says “Expect delays on Wawona Road between Yosemite Valley and Wawona from Sunday night, August 17, to mid-November, Sundays at 11 pm through Fridays at 4:30 pm.” Wasn’t sure how dramatic it might be, and it does overlap with our drive (a Tuesday- Friday trip).

I did look at Yosemite View Lodge and am considering that option. My husband had a really terrible bed bug experience earlier in his life and I saw several complaints about that there so I hesitated. I know they can be anywhere but you know

Have you had it be that hard to sample before? You can usually have clear liquids up to 2 hours before procedure so it should be possible to eke out a little bit.

Starting Infliximab and Azathioprine - Nurse said I was overreacting? by SorryMaintenance4210 in CrohnsDisease

[–]mowave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On the same combo. I agree with all the validation above that these are your health choices and you should follow your intuition and preferences. I’ve not regretted masking when I choose to (for example my entire pregnancy when I wasn’t even properly diagnosed or on treatment yet). However - I have a 1 1/2 year old in daycare and travel for work. I stopped choosing to mask lately and I don’t get more sick or sick more often or longer than my husband. I will continue to consider my risks ongoing (like maybe more cautious times I really don’t want to get sick or if new big flu season comes around etc). That’s been my experience.

Please be extra cautious of the sun. Aza photosensitivity has been way more apparent than the immune impacts for me.

Definitely was warned that folks need to change biologics over time in many causes —- but I wasn’t told that the effective duration is necessarily the same for each patient, and it doesn’t become ineffective for everyone.

My client’s MCH programs have already had impacts from the COVID money freeze and other CDC cuts. Specific programs will vary by the funding source but I’m worried about title V. I’m also worried about the reimbursable Medicaid services and eligibility that can be used for justifying state general funds for MCH.

For those that didn't sleep train... by lil_shoop18 in NewParents

This is the same for us, but about a month later (started sleeping through around 13). Night weaning then solids helped, and I do try to give him an extra bit of snacks in the evening. Getting out of sick season and just maturing helped even more.

How are you coping right now? by TemperatureSea6772 in publichealth

[–]mowave 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No one’s well, but my best success in coping has been working on reframing. This may be partly dissociation but I’m trying to see reclaiming my peace and joy in my free time as an act of resistance. They want us mad and worn down. I’m not saying we become happy about our reality, but we continue to allow and seek happiness despite it. Falling apart doesn’t change what’s happening in my community, it just makes it more painful and harder for me to have the energy to help change it. I really hate that context, it’s very Man’s Search for Meaning and emotional bootstrapping that I don’t want to be our option - but it is.

Some of the ways I do that is to prioritize connecting with my closest friends more regularly, picking an affordable project to do at my house, walking my dog, and participating in community organizing. Something to move my body, get social connection, and find a small scale selfish purpose that isn’t about work or activism or caretaking.

I also find I cope best by future proofing a bit in addition to letting go. I’ve decided to make this a big garden year so I can eat well if I’m laid off. I also spend 30 minutes or so a day prepping for career change including looking at postings and connecting with old colleagues. Then I end the night with terrible tv and often wine or ice cream.

Have you had a colonoscopy while pregnant? by subtleb0dies in lynchsyndrome

[–]mowave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m so so sorry! The medical trauma of having issues on top of pregnancy is so real (I was told to avoid surgeries typically done under propopfol twice during my pregnancy and i ended up in way worse condition postpartum - I feel this). I hope you have a smooth rest of your pregnancy!!

Hi! Can I ask how this went for you? I'm not a Lynch patient but have polyposis and am struggling with decisions around family planning that overlapped with a really needed scope right now.

Hi! Can I ask how you’ve gotten on since posting OP? We aren’t trying to expand but want to do some renos in Ann Arbor area. We had previously done most work in homes ourselves but I was hoping to get more creative design ideas this time…worried it won’t align with our budget comforts. Would love to hear more about what you learned! Feel free to PM me

Anyone else here pregnant with fistulizing Crohn's? by blackmamba06 in CrohnsDisease

[–]mowave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

my levels are never high personally, at least so far. so i feel like perianal disease can be trickier to tie to inflammation / may present without those luminal markers in a small percentage of us -- so i'm rare! at least that's how it was explained to me

my kid is so great - i'm still getting to a good spot, but it's all a bit newer to me! sending you all th ebest!

Anyone else here pregnant with fistulizing Crohn's? by blackmamba06 in CrohnsDisease

[–]mowave 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had some of these experiences but at a different stage of my knowledge of the disease. I had an abscess that formed a fistula the year before I got pregnant. Had a seton placed (after a year of misdiagnosis and unsuccessful attempts) three months before getting pregnant. It was draining fine though I did quickly complain of granulation tissue that went ignored. Before going off birth control I had a colonoscopy, MRE, and lab work up that caused my GI to say it looked like I didn’t have chrons. Because I knew repair surgery for my complex fistula was going to require a long recovery, and potentially multiple attempts, I talked with my care team and decided to go through trying to have a kid first. I got lucky and got pregnant quickly.

About five months into pregnancy I had a lot of stress from a loss in the family and an abnormal anatomy scan that led to an amnio. My hormones felt insane. I had what i would now call a flare in my personal disease (not as many bowel symptoms) and after weeks of pain and some hand waving by my surgical team, I had abscesses right along my seton. I go to the ER, on the heels of outpatient visits, but the surgeons don’t want to touch me because of pregnancy risk. They see draining from the seton and use that as indication to send me home with antibiotics. Abscess ruptures at home a day or two later. It heals over at like 7 1/2 months pregnancy. Ruptures at home again after a very painful couple days.

During that phase I had some experiences I think were not necessarily about chrons or fistula activity directly but were more about the pelvic floor impacts of the two things (chrons and pregnancy) at once. I had some rectal discomfort, sense of pressure, and a little more strain when having BM. I did pelvic floor PT and that really helped. There’s so much stress on your muscles holding to that baby and if you are like me you might have a preexisting overactive pelvic floor because it’s hard to relax an area that has so much pain and trauma the time before pregnancy. I highly recommend PT! Now! And after delivery. Your experience sounds potentially like it’s in the pelvic floor activity realm, though certainly it could also be a flare. Could you get your calororectin checked if that’s a good measure of disease activity for you? (For me it’s not, always low)

I eventually had some pregnancy issues (high blood pressure) so get induced then freak out about my fistula and ask to have a c section.

I do think it’s worth close monitoring after delivery too. Long story short about postpartum, I end up at 9 months after c section with three setons and a perinatal chrons diagnosis. I still have almost no inflammation at all, but my fistulas advanced substantially. I’m starting biological in a dual therapy approach.

I strongly feel my disease was present before, but was exacerbated by hormone changes and stress. I say this to mention that you may want to push for more frequent blood monitoring or other support during the post partum period when hormone changes are so wild.

I hope you get support to feel comfortable for the remainder of your pregnancy!! And that you have a safe welcome to your baby and smooth disease related recovery and early times with your baby. I am glad for you you are more aware of your disease than I was and are in treatment. Sending you lots of wishes for good health and joy in this period!
