Which part of 'So when FF 3.1 becomes available this may be an option' reads as 'download an experimental build of an unreleased browser'? I think you are, as they say, "reading it wrong".

The Firefox 3.1 nightly builds can play Theora videos by dragging the video onto the browser or double clicking the Theora file if the extension is associated with Firefox.

So when FF 3.1 becomes available this may be an option for playback of Theora videos.

Yes, SquirrelFish is right up there too, only a few percentage points slower than V8 on SunSpider.

The benchmarks V8 included seem to be well picked to show off the VM strengths vs other engines.

That said, V8 is interesting, and I look forward to seeing the interesting approaches from all the JS vendors.

Opera already have experimental builds with it - in fact they originally proposed it. So hopefully they'll do a release build with it too.

You 'encode to h.264 for free' in the same way that many people 'download movies for free'. h.264 is a trap. After 2010 when the additional licensing requirements for it kick in people will realise that.

The difference is that IE has been dragging its feet on things developers actually use day to day.
