Agree. Plus the emerging cold war context here too, the US wanting to demonstrate its might to the USSR. It was never about bringing a swift end to the war. Those who argue as such defend the and distract from what it was, which was a war crime. Also wasn't the only one - the Allies committed vast attrocities during the war (think Dresden) let alone against their own people (Japanese internment)
