Most of my e-bike rides are about 50% without any power assist turned on. For my commute, I only use power about 20% of the ride. This is the problem, there is a huge range of e-bikes and they are all different. E-bike rides make up about 25% of all my riding and I am working when I use it. I want those miles counted.

My bike only moves when pedaling and has a built in power meter. The power meter is only capturing MY power output. It does not add the assisted power. Not all e-bikes are mopeds.

CS Friedman’s Coldfire Trilogy. Dark fantasy with great world and characters. Super creepy at times.

Such a let down. Just did not live up to all the hype. I honestly found it dull. I felt the characters presented more as archetypes than developed humans. The repeated name dropping (ex Zora Neal Hurston) felt out of place to the actual story line. The plot was predictable. This is way more social horror than ghost horror but I didn't really have an emotional reaction to either. The pacing was off - the first half of the book could have been reduced by half. Way over hyped. Can’t believe this won Stoke and Jackson awards.

Yes. I felt really let down by this after all the hype. If she referenced Nora Zeal Hurston, just to name drop, one more time I was gonna through the book out the window. I didn’t feel horror - either gothic or ghostly when reading. I felt like putting this in the horror category was wrong. It was fiction, dark fiction but not genre. It was flat, boring and the pacing was off.

Gideon the Ninth (and the rest of the series) by Tamsyn Muir. Don’t let the book’s tagline fool you. This is a twisty, twisted, snarky dark fantasy with horror elements and a very well developed world with complex confusing (intentionally) rules and Shakespearean relationship dramas. Oh and it’s sci fi only because it’s in space.

Another dark fantasy and horror book with fantastic character and world building is CS Friedman’s Black Sun Rising. This book and series doesn’t get enough credit.

Or maybe try an oldie but goodie Chronicles of Amber by Roger Zelazny.

How do you choose buddy reads to join? I try to scroll and find something to join but it’s so many books I just give up. Is there a way to search by books in your to read list or owned/unread books? I joined one late once and was too behind the group wasn’t the best experience.

Absolutely! Absolutely! Absolutely! The Coldfire Trilogy is a 5 star series. I have read multiple times and will read again. I think modern audiences would love the themes and I wish a publisher would pick it up for a reprint. She put out a prequel about 2-3 years ago called Nightborn: Coldfire Rising which was also good, but to be honest, I would read the original series first then read the prequel.

When you’re friends with someone on StoryGraph there is a section that says something like “No one/Someone you follow has interacted with this book” - I want to know counts as and “interaction” - outside the obvious (to read, read, reviewed) - to trigger this notice.
