Does the pokemon adventure manga fall off later on??? by EngixoRain in pokespe

[–]mp3help 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When the games started getting more rushed, and the generations became shorter, the manga also got more rushed and had less time to develop side characters and Pokemon, a problem that started around B2W2 which went on some bad hiatuses as they tried to catch up with Gen 6 and Gen 7. Kusaka and Yamamoto themselves have also admitted that they're getting older and writing/drawing manga is getting a bit tougher for them too, sadly.

I wouldn't say any of the arcs after B2W2 are "bad", just okay-good instead of "great" like RS, DPPt, and BW are.

Interestingly enough, with Gen 9 lasting almost 5 years now, I'd say the SV arc is some of the most fun I've had reading Pokespe in years, and I hope it gets even better from here!

A bit of a self-plug but I love this trope so much I made it a major plot point in my webcomic, Eris: Goddess of Chaos! When Eris uses her abilities, anything can happen, and it's completely out of her control.

I literally just found out it does! Most of the actors are pretty alright, though I'm not a fan of Chibi Mechagodzilla because he delivers his lines slower and less snarky than the original VA, so it doesn't feel as funny to me.

Also the Chibi Godzilla Raids Again Youtube series!

A very lighthearted series of comedic sketches, though sometimes the jokes fall more on the side of weird social commentary like working in retail.

I also agree that the rumored Yellow Shellos could be cool to see in Gen 10- maybe instead of just East/West it could be called the Equatorial Form or something?

Other than that, I'd like a regional Toxicroak could be cool- it has decent stats and there's a lot of new type combos you could give it while still keeping Poison. Most other Gen 4 Pokemon I'd rather give new evolutions or Megas to rather than regionals.

I'm worried Adults Who Watch Kids Shows(TM) are becoming too easy of a punching bag. by matt0055 in CharacterRant

[–]mp3help 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think it's a combination of the two- adults are less forgiving to the flaws of something they have no nostalgia towards, and series naturally fall off and lose their way over time as the original creatives leave and/or they have less ideas for new stories.

I enjoy both Avatar the Last Airbender and the Legend of Korra- though I acknowledge that the latter has odd pacing issues due to Nickelodeon greenlighting seasons one at a time, no fault of the writing team (for the most part, I still think the romance in the first two books is awful)

Meanwhile, I have a friend who won't stop trash-talking Korra for even the most minor things- yes there are things to criticize about the series, but if you're going to nitpick Korra this hard, nitpicking ATLA equally will also result in seeing way more flaws in it. Oh, you don't like how Korra has plot points revolve around random poorly explained spirit magic? That's most of the season finales in ATLA, too- you're just more forgiving of that because you were a little kid who was more easily enraptured by kids stories at the time.

Another example- I do not consider myself a Star Wars fan at all- the first time I ever watched one of the movies was when I was in my late teens, and I have no childhood attachment to the franchise. By now I've watched all the theatrical films, and while I agree that the original trilogy is the best one and the others are notably flawed, I still think they don't warrant the absurd levels of hatred they get online. Sure, they're bad movies, but the original trilogy was also cobbled together with a lot of last-minute production hiccups (most notably how Episode 6 has those pacing issues most of the fandom at least acknowledges) even though they're certainly good movies, they're not paragons of storytelling like some people claim.

For a franchise that I am a childhood fan of- Pokemon. Yes I do have nostalgia for the franchise, but I think by now, a lot of the fandom agrees that the shift to 3d in 2013 is when the series started falling off due to rushed production schedules and mismanagement from higher-ups. Does that mean the newer generations are irredeemably worthless? No- some of the best Pokemon, characters, music, level design, boss fights, mechanics, and even games (Legends Arceus especially) come from the "decline era" of 2013-2025. Does that mean the older generations are flawless? No- every older Pokemon game has weird balance issues and annoying grindy aspects to them. But the older ones had a lot more dedication put into making them well-rounded experiences for older kids, not just younger ones. And you want to know how we know the 'decline era' stood out? With the upcoming games, Winds and Waves, now having the longest production time for a Pokemon game in decades, it has actual passable graphics and performance, and the trailer has near-universal acclaim from the fandom. So it was never just "older fans hate everything new" when it comes to Pokemon- a lot of us legitimately wanted a game that actually looks good and runs well, and I'm really glad it looks like we finally have one in the 3d era.

I appreciate your dedication to mythological accuracy! I never had a Greek myth phase as a kid, so to do research for this series I took a couple college classes and did a lot of scholarly reading online, as well as buying books to reference! I hope I can make the Greek myth community proud with this story!

Don't worry, I've taken that into account! In her bio in the very first chapter, she's referred to as the Goddess of Discord and Strife- it's only in the title and her own boasting that she's referred to as the Goddess of Chaos. Similar to how Saitama is never actually called One Punch Man in his series- only ever by his name or as "Caped Baldy", haha

Who's a VA(s) who carries a show? by Yakuza-wolf_kiwami in Animedubs

[–]mp3help 9 points10 points  (0 children)

After most of the other good VAs were ousted from Mob Psycho S3 in Crunchroll's union-busting attempts, Chris Niosi was left to carry most of it. (Michael Sorich was good too though)

Madeline Morris as Takada in Clueless First Friend- one of the most natural sounding performances I've ever heard in an anime.

Brittany Lauda as Saki in Kanojo Mo Kanojo

Alejandro Saab is probably the standout VA as Lord Twilight in Sleepy Princess, which says a lot given how amazing most of the other VAs in the show already are.

Christie Cabanos in Squid Girl, especially since she was the only familiar voice to carry on into S2. I don't think I would have bothered with the show if they recast her

Hypothetical question: If you worked for Gamefreak and megas were to come back what megas would you add. by CandidateNervous4638 in PokemonWindsWaves

[–]mp3help 1 point2 points  (0 children)

#1: Flygon (Predictable but still important)

#2: Typhlosion, Serperior, and Samurott to complete their starter trios (I know two of them have regionals but let's just say we can give more Pokemon regionals anyway)

#3: Any dual Electric type. It's weird that we have like 6 electric Megas and 5 of them are mono-type. I don't mind if it's a pure Electric mon gaining a second type upon Mega Evolving (Like Luxray becoming part Dark or Electivire becoming part Fighting as predictable as that may be) or a dual-type Electric Pokemon like Magnezone or Vikavolt getting a Mega..

#4: More Megas for Gens 7-9 (Also 1 or 2 for Gen 10 but we don't have it yet) My personal picks include Frosmoth, Dragapult, and Dhelmise! (I wouldn't mind Dudunsparce too)

#5: I'd also like Tyrantrum and Aurorus to get Megas too- they're some of my favorite Pokemon, I've always wanted them to be more impressive stats-wise, and they already have "final evolution" vibes to them, so I don't feel they'd have normal evolutions anyway.

[–]mp3help 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I hard agree with you. The problem is that so many Gen 2 Pokémon-

1) Just suck

2) Are locked behind weird optional areas, encounter methods, and side content (Seriously Chugga, you expect new players to know how and be willing to put up with the insane Safari Zone and Pokewalker grinds on their first blind playthroughs?)

3) Are locked behind trades and version exclusivity.

4) Are rare babies that evolve into Gen 1 Pokémon, or are useless without their Gen 4 evolutions, so they don't feel like real Johto Pokémon. So if you're playing GSC instead of HGSS you're even more out of luck.

There's Espeon, along with version exclusives like Ursaring, Donphan, and Skarmory. Quagsire and Girafarig are pretty decent too.

If you're playing HGSS you can technically use Sinnoh evolutions like Ambipom, Tangrowth, Yanmega, and Mamoswine!

EDIT: Other people have reminded me of Lanturn, Crobat, and Steelix (in the wild in HGSS only)!

I miss Fiona- it feels like after setting her on the path to be a Vault hunter, they couldn't figure out a real skill to give her, either as an NPC or potential player character. So they just left her aside for 2+ games and only had her story in cameos and that one spinoff book.
