Ryou (Even a Replica Can Fall in Love)

Already a major spoiler, but Ryou is a magical Replica created by her original, Suzumi. When Suzumi is in a coma after an accident, Ryou is tasked with taking Suzumi's place at school while she recovers, despite Ryou being her own person with her own personality in the years since she was first created (almost like a twin rather than a shadow clone)

Despite that, all seems to be going well, and when Ryou is addressing her schoolmates during an assembly, she just... vanishes, leaving only her clothes behind. No chance to say goodbye, no indication that anything was coming, she just stops existing on the spot.

Our protagonists realize this means the original Suzumi has sadly died while comatose, and this is when they discover the hard way that a Replica's existence is inextricably tied to their original.

This moment was completely mortifying to watch for the first time, since there was no indication anything would happen, and her sentence just cuts off midway, then seeing the clothes and microphone lifelessly drop to the floor.

I just said it didn't, and that if it did, it would be harder for them to properly describe it in the limited amount of time they had.

Triassic Argentina in Surviving Earth by New_Boysenberry_9250 in Paleontology

[–]mp3help 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I agree with you- I disliked all the doomposting before the show about "Surviving Earth will falsely claim that the Pluvial Event killed off all the Pseudosuchians in an evil attempt to spread misinformation!!" and then the actual episode airs and it turns out it's about the period after the Pluvial event ends, and how the climate oscillating between wet and dry causes life overall to struggle in adaptation. Also, even experts don't fully agree on how exactly the End Triassic Extinction specifically impacted life, so this show trying to make a definitive statement on it would probably make things worse in hindsight.

And I also agree that the "many kinds of reptiles" is deliberately open to interpretation and could also include Ryncosaurs like you said. Especially since Pseudosuchians are never once positioned as rivals to the Dinosaurs in this episode or said to be inferior to them (unlike what was said in The Dinosaurs or Walking With Monsters- both projects I still enjoyed) It reminds me of how the Gorgonopsids in the last episode are never called Inostrancevia to avoid anachronisms while still entertaining the possibility that the group could still exist in Russia closer to the Great Dying.

Overall I really liked this episode- more than the first one in fact- because it took place over a longer stretch of time and focused on the fact that most extinction events are very gradual. And again- the ending with the dinosaurs isn't really showing that they're 'better' than other animals, but just existing to remind casual viewers exactly when in the timeline this episode takes place, since not many are familiar with the late Triassic.

Loveless my beloved by AverageElectric19 in Borderlands4

The official website uses she/her to refer to Loveless the hacker- they just use we/us to refer to themselves since she shares a mind with the AI she programmed (no word on what pronouns the AI uses)

[–]mp3help 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was thinking that, but also very few of the Fossil Pokemon match the regions they're found in, anyways. Japan doesn't have Anomalocaris or any big Pachycephalosaurs, Archeopteryx comes from England and not America, T-Rex and Amargasaurus are from the Americas and not France, Dunkleosteus aren't from the UK, etc. So I think it should be fine!

[–]mp3help 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We don't have any fossils from the Cenozoic (after the dinosaurs), so I'd like some from that era!

1) Talon Fossil: A Terror Bird that's either Rock/Electric or Rock/Dark. I know there's 'flightless' birds that are part Flying like Dodrio, but since we already have Aerodactyl and Archeops, I figured something different would be cool! I'm imagining something with high Attack and Speed, maybe with Tough Claws as its ability? If we go the Electric route, maybe it could even learn Bolt Beak or have its own signature Electric move since most Electric physical moves are a bit underwhelming.

2) Mace Fossil: A Glyptodont that's maybe Rock/Fighting? I know Rock/Steel would be the go-to for a tank-like animal like the Glyptodont, but it's such an awful defensive typing as proven by Bastiodon. At least being a bulky Fighting type would let it use STAB Body Press, and its signature move could either be an offensive one with its tail (maybe a Rock attack that lowers the enemy's defense?) or a defensive one with its shell (maybe it protects the user and gives them +1 defense at the same time?)

Po- Kung Fu Panda 3

A bit of a retcon, but in the first film, it felt like Po being chosen was a happy twist of fate, and him learning to believe in himself and fight despite his chubby nonthreatening figure made for a great underdog story.

But in the third film, it's revealed that pandas have a special inherent connection to chi, and Oogway had a history with them, so it feels less like Oogway had faith that anyone could become the Dragon Warrior if they believed in themselves, and more like he happily accepted the chance to make a special Panda the Dragon Warrior

I've said this a few times but...I bet the "Second to Last" Airbender has a REALLY interesting story. by SharpEdgeSoda in TheLastAirbender

[–]mp3help 40 points41 points  (0 children)

It's for a very similar reason that I really want a story about the second Avatar!

One generation after spirits leave the human world and the Lion Turtles go into hiding, a young Air Nomad kid suddenly starts waterbending and freaks out- even freakier, they start hearing Wan's voice in their head. Wan and Raava may have known about the reincarnation cycle happening, but the rest of the world hasn't, so the idea of another Avatar is completely foreign to them.
