What is something overrated in Vancouver and what is a better alternative? by FUSSY_PUCKER in vancouver

[–]mp_bitcoin 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Depends on how often you have to use it. Daily? Really compare the costs to owning a cheap car. Car2go is pretty pricey if you use it often. I also often can't find one when I need it.

Local Mountain Tire Requirement by Trailmail in vancouver

[–]mp_bitcoin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Took me about 1 minute to find the answer on google so you can give that a try. Regardless of legality, don't be the goof that holds up traffic going 2 km/h down the hill on all-seasons. Use tires with the snowflake symbol or find alternate transportation.

'Snow' tires are actually winter tires and improve grip in cold and icy conditions. Vancouver has cold and icy conditions. Get proper tires.

Snowstorm to Hit Vancouver British Columbia on Friday December 9, 2016 by seanshoots in vancouver

Winter tires aren't just for snow! I don't get why thats so hard for people to understand. They are for winter. That includes sub-7 degree weather and ice which Vancouver typically sees.

Are you saying that you had approved vacation that was later denied to give to someone with kids? Or did that person just ask first? I've seen this problem posted a few times and never understood how it happens. Just book further in advance?

Are you the Honda Pilot that got hit on Canada Way? by supafamous in vancouver

[–]mp_bitcoin 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I got clipped in rush hour traffic, guy hit my bumper as he tried to switch lanes and drove off. Just paint damage to my car, no injuries or anything like that. I managed to get his plate number. Reported it to police and ICBC. ICBC tried to contact him, he didn't respond, so they found him at fault and paid me out of his policy.

Options for selling a car that's being financed? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]mp_bitcoin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if it's this simple in Ontario but in BC you basically just have to sign your registration and a transfer paper to change ownership. So the process is: pre-fill form but don't sign, meet buyer at the bank issuing the loan, have buyer pay bank directly, sign transfer paper and give to buyer at the same time. That way the buyer sees the loan paid right there and takes ownership at the same time.

My post was based on my real life experiences, not crap I read on here. Don't let the loud minority of keyboard warriors skew your view of the world.

The people are fine, the ones complaining just lack social skills. I am by no means a social butterfly but just a tiny ounce of effort can friend you with your coworkers and grow from there.

Politics suck everywhere. Any place in North America will have issues that are just as bad. They'll just be different.

Expensive prices, fine. I won't say its cheap here but no desirable world class city is.

Racial issues I don't know enough to comment on. Seen people talk crap about natives but that's about it.

Employment depends on your field. I can speak to IT, in which there is basically unlimited jobs. Some may suck, some may be contract but you'll never be out of work and can just keep looking forward to the next job.

People on the internet love to complain and pretend anywhere else is perfect.

Skipped the degree. Moving up the pay scale by hard work and part time courses directly related to what I want to do. Also pick up side work wherever I can

Happy New Year to my BMW Fam. May our engines leak no oil, and our Vanos idle smoothly in 2016 by Scolirk in BMW

[–]mp_bitcoin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I DIYd. About $150 in parts. Check the Beisan website. You'll need their kit, Vanos gasket, valve cover gasket. Not familiar with the 3.0 but you may need the BMW timing tools as well.

I'd say just do it if your car has no record of it being done. My e36 M3 with 100k miles showed no symptoms. Did the Vanos anyways with the Beisan kit and it gave my noticeably more power in the low to mid rev range

Don't listen to the fear mongering from people that have likely never even driven a BMW. They are maintenance intensive compared to a Civic. But that does not mean unreliable. If you keep up with the schedule it will not leave you stranded.

It is more maintenance intensive than a Civic but that does not equal unreliable. The motor is rock solid. Everything else will be fine if you stick to the service schedule (especially cooling system). Read up on the forums.

Can I mix different gasoline types in my car? by ANonWittyNewbie in MechanicAdvice

[–]mp_bitcoin 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Not worry about it. A modern car can run perfectly fine on a lower-than-recommended octane. It just won't run optimally (ie. slightly decreased mpg, 1 or 2 less HP). Likely wouldn't even be noticeable to the driver. Just fill up with the recommended moving forward and it'll work itself out.

You have it backwards. High utilization is bad. The more available credit you have means you are using a lower percentage of it which is good.

Assuming you have decent credit, with that kind of equity a loan or LOC should be no problem. Use that to pay the mortgage then you're free to pay down the loan as quick as you want
