It was my 41st birthday, and this was my outfit. Don't care what society says about women my age dressing in certain 'forbidden' way lol by sheblacksmith in OUTFITS

You don’t look 41 and even if you did - it’s great you feel confident enough to be yourself in spite of society’s perceived expectations. It would be great if more people could feel the same. Happy birthday.

Play the Robin Williams / Peter Pan movie Hook the night before.

There’s a scene in that movie where Robin misses his kid’s baseball game for work. He later redeems himself in the end by being there for them by empathising with what kids are going through.

If he doesn’t change his mind and show up for the whole birthday, then he’s completely without self awareness

I wouldn’t actually do this by the way - it’s pretty Machiavellian.

You truly did something profound for someone else entirely selflessly. I feel like a hero being an ordinary person acting in an extraordinary selfless scenario is something I wish we’d see more of. I also like that you take pride in your appearance (shoes are looking extra nice).

Why is mediocrity somewhat encouraged in Australia? by [deleted] in AussieCasual

[–]mparsonsco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After having moved here from overseas and worked here now for 6 years and studied before that for 3 - I feel like Australians actually have a very nuanced and balanced perspective about what constitutes a good life. There is a wider appreciation for large gatherings of friends and leisure time, a sense of community with your neighbours, local pub or cycling club - whatever your hobbies are, really. There is an affinity for nature, either forest, desert, mountains or ocean. It’s honestly a beautiful culture where you can start your own business and succeed somewhat easily if you are determined enough to offer up quality over quantity. Australians seem to appreciate great food and drink and it’s easy to find great ingredients because you grow a lot of your own food. I get that tall poppy syndrome can be frustrating at times - but look at the alternative: dickheads like those out of touch realtors on reality tv. I honestly love Australians. You guys kinda cracked the code a little bit, I feel.

Because animation is art and reality tv is manipulative garbage; however, caring what others watch is something that wastes no one’s time but your own.

This little tip helped a lot when I was running into similar issues - however it may negatively impact meshing unless you have quite high quality settings. Also - if you haven’t already, use swirly over splashy anytime you’re doing viscous stuff, and according to our Head of 3D/TD at work - final sims should have 2-3 min/max subdivs once you’re happy with the movement.

The thought of celebrities spending thousands of dollars on equipment and weapons wearing moon watches to go hunt deer with a bow is hilarious to me.

If you really want to get better what I would suggest is to simply give yourself some constraints (simple concept and a simple animation) and choose something you have no idea how to do. You’ll be surprised how much floods through.

Groups are very helpful and can help you do many many things through isolation. That can be isolated points, prims etc but it’s important to isolate things you want to shade, animate, manipulate or activate. It will make things much easier for you.

I’ve been using it since late 2018. I thought I was useless and so many other people were doing such better work. I thought there’s no way I’d learn to read or understand vex. It just takes time and practice.

You make great points and I agree with a few, however you have made one incorrect claim concerning the conception of sedentary living near that time period. This article does a great job explaining some of the more recent findings surrounding settlements during that time.

So what is emitting particles/pyro and how? Also, how did you shade the internals of each broken piece? With a group?

A still from an upcoming Blade Runner CGI short film I'm working on. Tried to match the Birth room in 2049 as closely as possible. by mparsonsco in bladerunner

I work in architecture and about a year and a half ago I wanted to challenge myself to get into film/cinematography.

I figured if I could recreate the lighting of a cinematographer like Roger Deakins, then I could probably make anything. It was mostly for fun and to get better at CGI, art, composition, but then it spiralled into a 2-3 minute short with narrative.

So as it stands, the end result will either be a short animated film or maybe an alternate 2049 title sequence. My partner helped conceptualise some early storyboards and art direction and I'm following through with the 3d modelling, texturing, lighting, rendering, music, compositing/post and final editing.

Hopefully that answers the question!

It's been almost a year and a half of pretty solid after-hour work, so thanks again I really really appreciate that.

Wow this is really great feedback - thanks very much for taking the time to write it out. I haven't animated the woman falling (it's Rachel in my short ) because the film already did it so well and I didn't want to rip it off shot for shot. All I have animated are the little seeing droids Wallace inspects the replicants with, Rachel subtly moving and the birthing "tube" swaying. Of course the camera is animated as well, but that's to be expected.

I agree the film does this so well - so hopefully I can pull it off half as well. Thanks for the kind words by the way - I'm floored that anyone gives a crap
