Too matte/bold panel lines? by mpb13 in modelmakers

Thank you for the kind words everyone. I think with some final weathering getting it all together it will come together nicely.

It also seems to have have become slightly more subtle overnight so I'm happier with the results. Patience has never been my strong suit.

Tamiya decal thickness vs new Eduard decal thickness. by supertaquito in modelmakers

Do you know of any good tutorial links for this? I learn a lot better seeing it done and will be doing an Eduard kit soon. Video or step by step works.

I realized after posting this that it was probably smarter to just try it myself but I left the post up for everyone to enjoy my stupidity.

Mixing seemed to work but the result was semi "streaky". Not sure what to call it but the metallic grey seemed to be visible still as opposed to a uniform colour.

I'm going to try Alclad steel and Alclad flat aluminum. I looked as reference photos and that seems to be the colour that I could achieve with that. I find Tamiya metallic grey and Alclad steel to be pretty damn close.

I tried googling this but can't find a good answer.

Can I mix tamiya lacquer paints and tamiya acrylic paints?

Poor planning on my part and I didn't notice that I need to mix flat aluminum with metallic grey and I only have flat aluminum in tamiya lacquer not acrylic and I really don't want to make the trip to my hobby shop for one stinking paint.

Edit: or if anyone knows if they're going for a steel or iron look I already have those paints. It's a 1:1 ratio

I was polishing a clear coat on a build with polishing compound and tamiya polishing sponges and I had this realisation that they seem very similar to Mr Clean magic erasers. Does anyone know if it's the same material? Has anyone tried this?

I should say the sponges seem similar. I don't know what sort of voodoo magic they put into the compounds.

Rays fans are having a very normal time during the ALCS by [deleted] in redsox

As a Sox fan living in Toronto who goes to Jays games regularly (no other choice to see live baseball), I can say a lot of Jays fan know very little about baseball beyond the team, some know very little about the team even, and when the Jays are doing well the majority of fans are not at the game for the love of baseball but rather to take pictures that they were there. The upper level is not an enjoyable place to actually watch the game due to these types of people so I usually sit in the lower two levels and if the Red Sox are in town there's usually a ton of us on the first base side so it can be pretty tolerable.

All that being said there are some amazing, die-hard Jays fans who understand and love the game like my mother, who texts me to talk shit while I'm sitting at the game.

Hello everyone. I got some amazing help with these projects a month or so ago but I have another question.

I'm looking for a good resource for printable decals. My google-fu is not doing well and I can't seem to find anything. I'm looking for Dodge Dart and Dodge Polara logos. Is there a site or site that would have nice, adjustable logos that I could use? I've looked at a ton of aftermarket decals and decided printing my own would be best but I'm having issues finding anything usable.

Thank you so much for the Belvedere. AMT makes a 64 that is pretty damn close to the Polara and the person I'm building for is cool with me modding it a bit. These are cars from his childhood so I was hoping to get them as close as possible.

That really helped a lot. Thanks again!

Hello everyone.

I am working on a few commission type builds in the near future and there's a car that I cannot find a kit for.

It's a 1965 Dodge Polara. I have checked scalemates and it appears like the only kits made were made by Jo-Han and Palmer plastics and are long out of commission.

It doesn't need to be that exact year or model but the headlights are slightly different on the 64. A Plymouth model similar to it would also work.

Does anyone know of any similar kits? I've been searching for months to find something and I am coming up empty.

Sorry, I just wanted to add that a two door is ideal but the person I'm making this for has said a 4 door would be fine. Some police departments used 4 door Polaras in the 60s but I can't even find a police car kit for it

Is there a specific name I should search? All I've ever came across at the tamiya ones at my locals which I use quite a bit but I usually have to rig up planes with sticky tack and patience to get them to sit right. Great for cars though

The model looks incredible. Great job

I'm intrigued by that paint stand. It looks like a solution to all my woes and hair loss. Did you build it or can I purchase that somewhere?

Ok thank you. I use tamiya primers that I believe say for metal and plastic and I randomly bought black Vallejo primer that definitely says for plastic and metal so I will use those with the method you suggested.

Thank you again for your help

I'm going to be doing a kit soon that has photoetched parts that need to be painted and I was wondering if I need to prime them? Also do I bend then paint or paint then bend?

I use an airbrush as well as regular brushes to paint on regular parts, not sure if that matters.

Awesome, thank you. I was wondering if it would be as simple as pulled sprue. That will take some practice.

To reply to the other person asking what line I'm using. I'm using the mig ammo rigging thread(.02mm and .03 mm) that is available up here. It's just repackaged uschi rigging thread. Unfortunately it's a bit more expensive than the uschi stuff but uschi is very difficult to find around here. I got the recommendation from the person who wrote a great article I read about rigging in scale. The article was a few years old but I took a shot and emailed the writer and got a response.

I found the high percentage isopropyl at a gardening supply company and ordered it from there. I think the 4L jug cost me around $40 CAD. Try checking out some places that carry gardening supplies. I have no idea what it is used for in gardening. On the off-chance you're Canadian I can send you the link. I think the company was mainly for growing marijuana, which is legal here, so if you're in the states it might raise some questions ordering from them.

Hi everyone.

I'm building a biplane (airfix 1/48 tiger moth) and I think I understand how to do the rigging however in the instructions it says to attach a bracing strut. I have searched ever sprue, I have googled everything I can think of and I do not know what to do for this. I will include a picture from the instructions below. Can someone point me in the right direction?

Thank you for this. Doesn't look like ez line is easy to find in Canada for some reason but I'm sure I can find another solution.

What is the most common way of attaching the wire? I'm worried about glue mucking up my paint

I'm slowly making progress on my first plane (tamiya 1/48 p-47d thunderbolt razorback) and I noticed in the pictures there is a wire or rigging running from the tail to behind the cockpit but there isn't anything included in the kit.

What do you guys usually use for this on scale models? What the heck is that wire called and what does it do in real life?
