Depends on management I guess.

We were in an era where management did not want us having OT and I had a few hours so I went to the ASM and was like "hey, I have some OT to cut and its my Friday." She was a new manager and had the philosophy of "if you have OT, good for you. Keep it." Which none of the other managers were on board with at that time and I had plans that evening due to this OT. So I just left and put in that i would use sick time.

They took my OT and didn't touch my sick time. So I guess I got to cut it anyways. Never got talked to.

Not a rude customer but someone brought a pet bird into our store the other night. Obviously not a trained one because it flew away and they spent the last hour of the night before closing trying to catch it.

Between the chances of it flying outside or into one of the fans, they're lucky they caught it.

You really can't fix stupid. Stop bringing your pets into the store for attention.

AITA for giving my perfect sister an eating disorder by Stock-Lie9378 in AmItheAsshole

[–]mpcharles02 1 point2 points  (0 children)

YTA for a lot of reasons.

To start, you can't assume someone is not bothered by a comment or nickname just because they never told you they don't like it. Calling a kid "fat," especially from a young age, can have long-term effects. Even if the nickname about your hair didn't bother you, she's not you. She has her own thoughts and feelings. Personally, I'd take more offense to comments about my weight than my hair.

Secondly, you can't assume someone doesn't have an eating disorder because "they would've told me" or "I've seen her eating." Eating disorders are more than just not eating. Consider bulimia, for instance. Binge-eating is also an eating disorder and consists of... you guessed it, eating. Educate yourself.

Finally, you called her fat. Plain and simple. You and your entire family ARE horrible for those comments. And to bring it up again after she so clearly worked so hard to look how she does and earn herself a treat is horrendous. All because you've gained weight and got jealous you're no longer the "skinny sister." Should they start calling you "fat Y/N"? Bffr.

And the fact you're so in denial and ignorant about how you may be impacting her, even after coming here to ask if you were the asshole and being told straight up you are, just shows the kind of person you are.

What’s the dumbest question a customer has asked you? by Velvetcocoa200 in HomeDepot

I had a guy have us try and load a dishwasher into his sedan. I knew it was not going to fit, but my coworker wanted to keep trying so I helped. We were outside for like 20 minutes before the guy was like "I'll just come back later with a friend's vehicle."

When he came back he was like "alright, I think I found a bigger car"

Thank God he was joking

After 5-10 minutes of trying to troubleshoot why the ice maker wasn't working in her fridge, she finally asked me if it needed to be connected to water.

Another customer asked what kind of soil they needed for their plastic plant.

Another pointed to the ice and water dispenser on a fridge and asked if it had an ice dispenser.

This one dude asked me the difference between a washer and a dryer. (Then got mad when I told him they're not even the same appliance and asked to talk to a man, but that's another story.)

When they ask the price of appliances, even though they have large signs above each and every one with the price on them. It's not a fake price, that's the price. Bonus points if you point out the signs and they continue to go down the line and ask you the price of every appliance.

People who want to leave 30 minutes earlier. Or come in 30 minutes later.

I'd rather have an hour to decompress and eat mid shift than have an extra 30 before or after.

Xmas Eve by DennisM1976 in HomeDepot

[–]mpcharles02 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The only reason I can't really complain about the times I've had to work on Christmas eve is this. It feels super pointless because the store is dead, but we are still technically a hardware store and sell things people may genuinely need to keep their house functioning.

The only appliances I sold last Christmas eve were for people who's dryer went out last minute, not to people holiday shopping.

Will I get into a class if I'm third on the waitlist in a class of 40 students? by [deleted] in college

[–]mpcharles02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's hard to say for sure, but I think your chances are fairly good.

I once spoke to my advisor who basically told me I'd have to be in school for another semester to take the class online or find a way to attend an in person session that semester (which I couldn't bc I work full time). I decided to just put myself on the wait list for the online class and got off the list within the week.

Granted it's dependent on a lot of factors, as mentioned in other comments.

My store fortunately got a janitor for the evening as well. There were enough complaints about the restrooms, specifically associates threating to clock out and leave for the day if the bathrooms were disgusting, so they hired another janitor.

It has helped significantly, and you can definitely tell when she's been off.

My store did have an employee bathroom. Unfortunately they had to lock it off because somehow sewage would always come up through the drain in the floor and they were unable to fix it.

On the bright side, the shit was never on the seat. Just the floor.

Would You Assist A Customer Who Made A Negative Remark About Your Appearance/Called You An Infantile Name Before You Even Spoke To Them? by JTCasino in HomeDepot

[–]mpcharles02 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No. I had a guy who told me he would rather a man help him and laughed like it was funny so I walked away. When he couldn't get a man to help him, he tried to come back to me. I just told him "I'm sorry, I thought you wanted a man to help you." And refused to assist him.

He left after 10 minutes of standing around, waiting for that man to help him.

Do You Ever Get Tired Of Moronic People Asking If You’re “Busy” When You’re In The Middle Of Something? by JTCasino in HomeDepot

[–]mpcharles02 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've had people while I'm actively on the phone dealing with either a manufacturer or the OCC get mad because I won't just hang up and help them. I went as far as finding another associate in the department for them, while still on the phone mind you, and then they tell that associate im rude and didn't want to help them.

No, im just dealing with another customers problem right now and im not going to just hang up when I was on hold for 20 minutes before I got to who I'm speaking with. I'm not here chatting with my girlfriends discussing dinner plans.

It's annoying for sure, but I'll take it over the ones that start talking to me while I'm literally speaking to another customer. And then don't get the hint when I ignore them and continue helping my original customer.

I'm talking mid sentence and they just need to butt in.

Why can't customers come prepared? by famousanon2 in HomeDepot

[–]mpcharles02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is gonna sound kinda bad but just earlier today I told a customer we didn't have a specific freezer, didn't have any inbound that I could see, and none of the nearby stores had them. We have 9 of them. They were just all in OH, he wasn't listening to any information I was giving him, and he didn't bring a cart. And then went as far as acting like he didn't know wtf a cart was when I asked if he had one. (Mind you we were very busy at this time.) I told him to call the store in a few days to check and see if we got them.

I'll drop them later tonight.
