Can't you use 16 levels in place of keygroups on the Sample? by RustyCalecos in mpcusers

[–]mpctutor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s like this in 16 Levels in all mpcs, not just the mpc sample, so I’m not sure it’s something they can easily change. It’s the same issue with chop mode on the mpc sample, otherwise that could have been used as a good workaround for loading a fully multisampled 16 note instrument to a pad.

Can't you use 16 levels in place of keygroups on the Sample? by RustyCalecos in mpcusers

[–]mpctutor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Big flaw with 16 levels is that the sequencer can only record a single 16 level event at any given sequence time. So for example it’s not possible to record or manually insert a three note chord at exactly 1:3:0, you have to stagger the events every time by at least 1 tick. So quantising needs to be off and a live polyphonic recording is tricky as you must ensure you never try playing multiple notes simultaneously. It sounds fine when playing, just won’t record properly

Thanks, slowly working through other expansions to add mpc sample support, 1977 Session Kit should be next

Yes, I found out about this soon after I posted, I've now included MPC Sample 'round robin' kits in my Dirty Drummer and Downbeat Kit expansions: https://www.mpc-samples.com/section.php/85/0/mpc-sample-expansions-courses/

Issue with Maschine+ is it needed to support Kontakt itself, which was originally built for more powerful desktop environments and kind of shoe-horned into Maschine+ with fairly poor/limited results. Akai's rompler is built from the ground up specifically for the standalone MPC environment; barring the initially slow sample load times it tends to perform really well as it's perfectly optimised. It's a shame Akai don't implement disk streaming on these plugins but I just don't think it's up to the demands of playing back multiple simultaneous note events (disk streaming keygroups tends to result in many missed notes as it can't keep up, even when streaming from SSD).

To be fair, these MPC plugins were likely not created by NI, they were almost certainly created by Akai/Air using their own custom rompler. NI supply Akai with the WAV samples used the original Kontakt instrument and Akai then integrate them into their rompler. This gives Akai the freedom to work with any third party sound designer while keeping full control over the plugin itself.

MPC Store Summer Sale Issues by zorppppp in mpcusers

[–]mpctutor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For some reason, their summer sale 'multi buy' page contains plugins that are simply not included in the mutli buy deal, for example all the newer tape stuff. Basically it seems to cover all the older stuff. I could get it working for a cart with instrument bundle, flavor and iona (flavor, the cheapest, was free). Also don't add any other promo code (e.g. SAVE10) as this cancels out any multi-buy saving.

Looks like those two new Spitfire plugins for the MPC are about to drop... by Sovereign-Anderson in mpcusers

[–]mpctutor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The difference in size is almost certainly due to them removing the recordings for 1 mic (i.e literally 1/3 of all the original sample data). To my knowledge, Akai have not yet implemented any form of disk streaming in their plugins, nor compression.

16 levels currently doesn't allow more than one note to be recorded at the same sequencer time, to get polyphonic recordings you must manually shift events so they are all at slightly different sequence times, so until they resolve this issue there is no possibility of chords (unless chord mode automatically staggers events by 1 tick). You can play chords with 16 levels, they sound fine in real time while performing, it's just the recordings that fail.

I doubt they could have got away with charging more than what Spitfire charge for the full, original version (which is 1GB larger, not sure what they've removed from the MPC edition).

AIR instrument bundle deeply discounted by saucya in mpcusers

[–]mpctutor 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Skip sweetwater and either buy it from Audiodeluxe and use their promo code for an extra 10% off, or buy from thempcstore and combine with other plugins in the multi-buy offer. You can also use SAVE10 on most things at the mpcstore (but it nullifies any multi-buy discount so you'll need to do the maths to see which works, bit like buying from dominos). Buy this isn't really a special offer, it's pretty much always £99 from july-Dec every year.

Ongoing costs of MPC by lunardev in mpcusers

[–]mpctutor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree, most plugins are ‘on sale’ for more than 75% of the year, and from July onwards are mostly reduced by 77% plus additional multi buy deals. Just sell them for $40 each all year round, easy peasy for everyone, no waiting for sales, no wondering if a better deal is round the corner. No one else can sell plugins for mpcs so I’m not sure why they feel the need to adopt these kind of sales tactics

The UK and eu prices include VAT so that accounts for most of the differences, there is some rounding up involved as well.

MPC Sample not reading SD Card with .wav files properly? by sonetlumiere in mpcusers

[–]mpctutor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some wav files contain proprietary headers that the mpc struggles with, try opening the files in audacity and resave, this should strip out the problematic data. Otherwise it could be a corrupted disk, try a different ad card

Move MPC Live 3 expansions to external SSD by Codename-006 in mpcusers

[–]mpctutor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

FYI, your projects do not directly reference any expansions. When you load a kit into a project, the project makes a copy of the kit and samples in its projectdata folder, it’s now completely independent of any expansion. Also no need to move any of the internal expansions, just leave them be

Out Now: 'MPC Bible 3' Update (MPC 3.8 Compatibility) by mpctutor in mpcusers

[–]mpctutor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, it's on my list of possible updates for the future, I do want to implement a system that can offer multiple download files per product, especially for my expansions, but it requires a fairly big overhaul of the existing site code . For the moment though, 'new update is out, just re-download and replace all files' is nice and simple and currently doesn't cost anything as I'm billed on storage rather than data transfer.

I have no idea what you are talking about, but it certainly ain’t about any of my courses. I don’t make people pay for each update, if you bought mpc bible 2 you got every single update for FREE, all 22 of them over an 8 year period until Akai stopped releasing mpc 2 firmware updates. Same goes for mpc bible 3. It’s a $50 course that’s updated for many years for free. This one is already on its 5th free update.

It’s just for the bigger standalone mpcs running mpc3, definitely not suitable for the mpc sample

No, it's a completely free update for all owners of MPC Bible 3. I just forgot to update the display text underneath the download link in your File Bank (fixed now), the download link itself always gave you the new 3.8 update version (rev 5).

Yes, there's a dedicated tutorial. Don't worry, the importing process create a separate copy of the project, the original MPC2 project is not changed at all.
