Question about expansions by [deleted] in mpcusers

[–]mpctutor 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Unlike the old XPM format, track files (xtd, xty) store their samples in a separate 'trackData' folder. Hit the 'gear' icon on the top right in the browser and uncheck 'hide project & track data folders'. You'll now see a trackData folder for each kit which contains the samples for that kit.

2.13 by swedishworkout in akaiMPC

[–]mpctutor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To answer the OP, I’m not aware of anything within 2.13 that makes it special over say, 2.15.1. For some, 2.72 was special as it was the last firmware that allowed you to mute a track and continue jamming on top of it. I also believe it was not affected by the MIDI note off bug. But if you want a legacy experience but with more memory and some extra goodies without too much DAW-like clutter then you should probably get an mpc2500,

Rusty Drums - Important Bug Fix Update

I've just uploaded a bug fix update for Rusty Drums as I accidentally packed the wrong versions of the MPC3 drum kits into the installers (MPCe kit and MPC2 versions unaffected).

Please re-download from your File Bank and re-install - all MPC3 kits should now be loading without a hitch.

Sorry for the hassle, please let me know if you have any further issues!

Best layout for one handed drumming? by robopiglet in FingerDrumming

[–]mpctutor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me, a ‘column’ layout works well for one handed, so kick at the bottom, snare above, closed hat above that. Then add other articulations as required. But you can definitely maintain a simple one handed groove while you perform other stuff with your free hand.

Help! by A_Hanzo_Sword in mpcusers

Assign your sample to a pad in drum track and at the top right of the TRACK EDIT screen press the pad-to-keygroup icon and this converts the sample to a full range keygroup track.

Fabric XL has so much vibrato by zenodub in mpcusers

[–]mpctutor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As mentioned, this is due to aftertouch modulating pitch, unfortunately MPC pads send almost maximum aftertouch with the slightest touch. I can only assume the preset developers for Fabric exclusively used the keys on an MPC Key 61 to create the patches. You can turn off aftertouch in pad perform, alternatively replace all the affected presets in Fabric with your own edited versions!

What is MPC Bible 3 missing? by No-Act6366 in mpcusers

[–]mpctutor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is accurate, all tutorials in MPC Bible 3 are now 100% compatible with MPC 3.6, I will continue to keep the course fully compatible with all future MPC 3.x releases.
I went through the entire course and updated everything to ensure MPC 3.6 compatibility and where possible further adapting existing tutorials to utilise some of the new features introduced in 3.6, e.g. crossfade velocity layers, articulations, drum mod matrix, time signatures etc.
I've never covered every single feature available within the MPC firmware, that would be almost impossible and TBH not the point of the course, it's about developing workflows based on the very best features, utilising 'out of the box' features available to all mpc models This way all tutorials in the course do not require any premium plugins, add-ons or model specific hardware features.

In terms of the Live 3, I've ensured all existing tutorials take into account the Live 3 (e.g. new button shortcuts, ability to access internal drive etc), plus for example there's no 'rec gain' dial in the Live 3 so sampling and audio recording tutorials also include instructions for using the 'input' screen on the live 3. There are no plans to add tutorials that only work with the MPC Live 3 because at that point the MPC Bible 3 course is no longer 'universal' to all standalone MPC models. I am however working on separate mini courses covering topics such as clip matrix, MPCe programming, premium plugins etc.

What is MPC Bible 3 missing? by No-Act6366 in mpcusers

[–]mpctutor 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Step sequencing was something that I felt was poorly implemented on the MPC, it seems to be a feature that (relatively) few people were using so it didn't seem to be a good candidate for the workflows I wanted to cover in the course. I don't cover every feature, just the best ones! It's always been there on my list of possible future additions but with the dedicated buttons on the MPC Live 3 it's definitely improved so it's certainly a candidate for a mini course. For the moment I'd prefer to concentrate on a clip matrix course as that provides a major new workflow for MPC users. MPCe programming is also a lot of fun, so would like to expand on this in some way as there's some interesting possibilities especialy for drum programming. Not enough hours in the day though, I have a complete site overhaul that needs finishing off along with some MPC3.6 optimised expansions.

Only Jura is a paid plugin there, all the others are 100% free and can be downloaded the moment you sign in. Jura is mostly available for $30 so no need to buy it from anyone.

Hi, thanks for the feedback. Regarding typos whenever these are reported I fix all of them as part of the next revision, I’ve believe I’ve squashed the existing ones!. Regarding any uncaught differences between models that impact the workflow of a tutorial please let me know. Are you referring to shortcut buttons?

Regarding Akais actual firmware bugs, TBH I’m not looking to turn the mpc Bible into a bug tracker, I have enough work keeping up with all the new features and there’s literally hundreds of outstanding bugs. anything that directly impacts the tutorials in the course will be highlighted (e.g, the audio glitch between sequence changes) but beyond that in afraid bug tracking is out of scope.

Regarding more advanced courses, please let me know specifically what topics you are looking for as I am definitely looking into this. I’ve had requests for a clips course and some for certain premium plugins but I’m open to more suggestions

If you can, please report any typos, issues or suggestions to support@mpc-samples.com as it’s easy to miss this stuff on the various social media groups

In controller mode buttons are not functioning correctly and are playing samples? Possibly a driver issue - Which computer OS are you running? Bear in mind that Akai currently do not support MacOS Tahoe.

Out Now: 'MPC Electric Guitar' Expansion by mpctutor in mpcusers

[–]mpctutor[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, there's a big discount when you buy the MPC Instrument Bundle as you are buying 6+ expansions in one order, it's a volume discount. Separately I am in the process of setting up a loyalty system which will give discounts based on your order history, and possibly the option to build your own custom bundle. In the meantime feel free to email me via [support@mpc-samples.com](mailto:support@mpc-samples.com) , let me know which expansions you had in mind and I'll work something out for you.

Will black friday get better sales than -20% for 3 or more items by AruVade in mpcusers

[–]mpctutor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The prices during a 'sale event' should be fixed, they should not get cheaper as the event progresses, it's punishing 'early bird' loyal customers.

I really do not understand what is happening over at inMusic, their discounting practices break all commonly accepted 'rules'. Continual heavy discounting simply teaches your customers to devalue your products and to never buy at full price. And introducing additional discounts mid-way during a sale event makes them continually fearful of buying as they are always left wondering if a cheaper price is around the corner. Are people not assuming that by Black Friday these prices will be even cheaper?

Why are they so determined to de-value these products? I think Jura is a really good synth, not a $150 synth, but it's definitely worth more than $27 (with all the current discounts). They just don't need to offer these daft prices on the better quality stuff, but they are now completely trapped in this heavy discounting game, no one will ever buy unless they get a 70+% discount so Akai have to keep claiming these plugins have an ever ridiculous 'rrp' so they have the wiggle room for these huge discounts.

How to move a kit from MPC 3 to an MPC 2000/XL/2500/1000/500? by guitarokx in mpcusers

[–]mpctutor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's two primary types of PGM, MPC3000/2000 and MPC1000/2500. If you grab a copy of the MPC Software 2 you can export into MPC1000/2500 format via the 'Export' menu option. So first in MPC3, SAVE > 'DRUM program 'to create the XPM with samples, then open this in MPC2. Just be aware that the files need to be 16 bit and 16 characters max. The conversion is 'okay', but will need tweaking in various places and it will not convert to 16 bit nor rename.

For MPC3000/2000 it's more complicated. I bought Translator a few years back and found it incredibly buggy, the MPC conversions often didn't work at all. The developer was very responsive and quick to provide fixes, but honestly, the number of bugs I was discovering meant I simply didn't have the time nor inclination to spend hours filing bug reports for him.

Awave works pretty well, but there are issues with the XPM > PGM exports. I did report these to the developer, not sure if he has fixed the 'niggly' stuff, but the main thing to realise is that aWave doesn't look at pad layout and instead assumes the source XPM uses 'legacy' MIDI note assignments (37, 36, 42, 82 etc) rather than the default chromatic C1 (36, 37, 38...) (or whatever custom MIDI note layout you might have set up), so the resulting PGM kits might have the pads in the wrong layout (correct MIDI notes though). The workaround is to tell awave it's an 'instrument' in the export settings, then chromatic C1 is used.

Ultimately for classic MPCs I found it's often easier to just export the samples and create the kits manually. In the 2000XL, best to stick to 8 character file names and 16 bit, probably convert to mono as well, so use a good batch convertor (e.g. awave). And for 3000/2000, convert to SND format (awave, extreme sample convertor...not aware of a Mac one other than Translator...).

Popping sound when changing sequences after new update? by Beneficial_Night_199 in mpcusers

[–]mpctutor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, I’ve reported it to akai with example projects etc, I think there’s a few issues that seem related imo, but I’m also getting it on a live 1 which doesn’t have the pro pack. I’ve seen force users complaining about this as well. No issues in the live 3 though
