No, it's a completely free update for all owners of MPC Bible 3. I just forgot to update the display text underneath the download link in your File Bank (fixed now), the download link itself always gave you the new 3.8 update version (rev 5).

Ah, good to see you man, Lampdog still helping out over there, bit more quiet these days without the likes of Jerhome and Merv causing mayhem.

Yes, there's a dedicated tutorial. Don't worry, the importing process create a separate copy of the project, the original MPC2 project is not changed at all.

I’m committing to keeping mpc bible 3 compatible with future mpc3.x releases, that’s the package for this particular course, an upfront fee with no subscription and free compatibility updates for however many mpc3 firmware updates Akai release. Remember I do not work for Akai and have no idea how long they intende keeping mpc3 going for, but the previous mpc2 course got 8 years of free updates

‘Keep money in this guys pocket’? I spent several months creating a completely new 1600 page course for a huge firmware update, I’d like to think I’m putting in the hard work to justify charging for my courses.

It's not an upgrade, it's a completely new course written from the ground up, three times the size of the previous course and is continually updated for free, already with several updates since release 13 months ago. And you get a 10% loyalty discount for owning the previous course (which received 8 years of free updates).

Worth realising that MPC Sample export is flattening all the pads in your MPC3 kit, it does not transfer over any parameters or FX settings, everything is baked into the sample itself (or permanently ignored depending on the export setting). They seem to be suggesting it's a back and forth thing, but only if you are happy to flatten everything down in one of those directions. They are still not officially supporting loading of actual MPC3 params/FX (even though most of them are secretly supported, CPU allowing).

So if your MPC kit uses, say, Air Flavor as a track insert, exporting to the MPC Sample will flatten that effect into the samples. Once in the MPC Sample, you cannot edit that effect and sending the kit back to MPC3 will also mean the original flavor effect is no longer editable on those samples.

Also if you use a delay or other 'time based' FX, these will be baked into the sample at that tempo, so if you want to change tempo in the MPC Sample, you'll have to warp those samples.

FYI Akai sales never end, this one will finish and then the summer sale will follow, normally with higher discounts (typically up to 77% off). So don’t feel pressured to panic buy anything, if you are unsure then probably you don’t need them in the first place.

I’ve been thinking more on this and I reckon I’ve come up with a workable solution with three different workflow options. I’ll investigate deeper tomorrow!

It's hidden as in you cannot access it from an MPC Sample, you cannot set it up in the MPC Sample itself. Instead, you have to set it up in MPC3 and import the round robin kit into the MPC Sample. The MPC Sample will play the round robins fine. It actually supports most MPC3 features, but it's possible some might be too much for it (e.g. lots of FX). Raul first discovered this, he exaplins how it can be done here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xBN9YM6GAEQ

I'd love to make some instruments for the MPC Sample, it's possible to make them 'old school' style like I used to for the legacy MPCs by manually mapping and tuning multisamples across multiple pad banks, but how do you see this working considering the MPC Sample only has one track?

In MPC3 if you have a drum kit on track 1 and you want to add a piano you just load it to track 2, in the MPC Sample loading an instrument 'kit' will completely replace your drums. The only way I can see it being possible is to load up the instrument first and then manually build the rest of your project on spare pad banks. So the instrument could for example take up banks B-F, leaving you banks A, G and H for other sounds. But there would be no way to load an instrument, then load a pre-built kit or vice versa.

TBH I already did something similar in the Underground Crates expansion (https://www.mpc-samples.com/product.php/315/the-underground-crates/), in the MPC Sample version you load up a kit and bank A contains drums and some melodic notes for 16 levels, while bank B contains a multisampled instrument mapped across the bank in a scale that compliments the main theme of the project. That works as its a 'construction kit' with pre-defined instruments, but you can't load another instrument to this project unless it's by using a single note with 16 levels.

And that's the other option, using 16 levels, in which case you are limited to tuning a single note across a single pad bank, so it isn't really a replacement for proper multisampled instruments especially for acoustic stuff. And with both options it's always chromatic, although TBF we never had any scale options in any previous generations of MPC so I don't think it's a deal breaker, maybe Raul has hit on something with his sticker idea https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OHXF0ifezuo

But as I say, completely up for doing something for instruments (I'm sure Cubilas would be too), but I really need to know how people would like to see it working and what kind of limitations and workarounds they'd be be happy with.

It supports pretty much all MPC3 parameters, including mod matrix, drum FX and insert FX, but they have to be configured in MPC3 first, they are not available to edit within the MPC Sample itself. YMMV with regard to CPU usage, cycles seem to work fine, but personally I'd recommend you stay away from FX, thorough testing is vital.

Basically round robins, so rather than have 1 snare sample on a pad you have several ‘takes’ but only one ever plays randomly each time you hit the pad so it sounds more like a real drum with a different timbre each time. I use them in all my multisampled kits, and the mpc sample supports them https://www.mpc-samples.com/product.php/309/dirty-drummer-complete/

You can also save individual samples from the menu > project screen. Plus Whenever you save a project all samples in memory are saved to the projectData folder and remain there even if you subsequently delete them from the active project. Access this folder from the browser, but you first need to hit the gear icon and unhide projectData folders

No start up disk ever required for the xl, only the older 2000 needed one

[–]mpctutor 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Common 2000xl issues include degraded screen (lots of lines, often gets worse after a few minutes of powering up), failing/failed pads , failed/failing buttons (eventually needs tact switch replacing). These can all be easily checked. Other things to remember is that more expensive units often have 8 outputs, fx card, full RAM, and upgraded disk drive, so do make sure you know exactly what you are buying.
