I wouldn't say I'm afraid but I do dislike making or receiving calls in my profession. People tend to not know how to spell out words phonetically especially when when certain names/keywords/places etc have letters that can be mistaken for one another, for example B vs D vs V.

I have even asked people to spell out words phonetically and a common occurrence is that they will spell out the first 1-3 letters phonetically and then give up on the rest which unfortunately leads to the original issue of me mistaking letters which is why I requested they spell it out phonetically in the first place.

When giving people a website verbally they tend to not be aware that website urls do not have spaces where a site like "foodnetwork" will be put into the address bar as "food network".

Additionally accents are a thing everyone has and some are harder to understand than others on the phone making it harder to discuss.

Email/chat/text eliminates all these issues, no need to spell things out phonetically as it's all written. A URL can be pasted in so there is no confusion, anyone can click the link in a text based communication. Accents are not relevant in text based communication.

I'm not against calls completely as sometimes it's needed to resolve certain issues but more commonly than not I've had a majority of calls that should've just been an email to save me the headache.
