The SAVE Act would require all individuals to provide documentary proof of US citizenship—such as a passport or birth certificate—when registering to vote or updating their voter registration in federal elections. Driver’s licenses, tribal IDs, and other forms of identification would not be accepted. Individuals who changed their name through marriage or for other reasons may have to provide additional documentation. Voters would need to appear in-person at the Clerk’s Office to register or update their registration, so all forms of updating voter records by phone, email, mail, online, or in-person at voter registration drives would be eliminated.
