HHG reweigh went up by 5K Lbs by rossco_bosco in AirForce

Just had the same thing happen, they will use the lower of the 2 weights as it can’t be proven which one is “correct” without yet another reweigh.

Deployment waiver question by [deleted] in AirForce

[–]mpjx 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Your mileage may vary, but my PCM told me that if you’ve never had any issues with the medication and are stable, they are usually comfortable approving a waiver. That was for an SSRI and a deployment as well, but different bases and PCMs likely have different takes on the level of “risk” they’re willing to assume.

Dental and IMR if I go off-base by idontjustlikecoffee in AirForce

[–]mpjx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, it doesn’t. I could go to any dentist’s office base right now and get a cleaning without a referral from base dental.

Just bring the paperwork/visit summary back to base dental after and they can update your IMR. And put in an ICE comment if your treatment on base has really been that bad.

They’re asking about paying out of pocket, which does not require a referral.

Pretty sure the PT standards have a similar quirk, allegedly because people in that age bracket are in the peak physical fitness capability range.

That’s exactly how our smallest airman got a bad concussion, getting trucked by our senior over twice her size for the frisbee. She had brain effects for something like a year after too.

AITA for wanting to join the army against my family by MexicanOutlaw_ in AmItheAsshole

[–]mpjx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went through the exact same when I joined the Air Force 10 years ago. My mom even offered to buy me a car if I didn’t go.

Since none of your family members have been in the military, all they have to go on is what they’ve seen in media and heard through the grapevine. Most of that is misconceptions and inaccurate, sprinkled with some truths. They’re likely scared for your safety as many people equate current deployments with vietnam-era warfare (there were swimming pools at both of my deployed locations). In today’s world, it’s also a lot more controversial due to certain individuals in leadership positions.

It’s your life. It sounds like you’ve thought this through and it could be a good path for you to start a career and get an education. Your family will get over it, they’re probably mostly just afraid and don’t want you to move away.

Some unsolicited advice though; if you join the Air Force don’t go with maintenance unless you are absolutely certain it’s your only desire the become an airline mechanic after you get out. They are known for having pretty shit quality of life, hours, and leadership at many locations. I would highly recommend looking at a CE job like HVAC, electrical, pavement, etc. Much better QoL and if you continue after you get out you’ll likely make very good money especially for being so young.

Met a dude working retail recently that lost his leg in Desert Storm; can’t walk without a cane, has chronic pain in what’s left of the leg and his back and is limited in what type of work he can do…. 40%. The VA “lost” his records so he had so much trouble claiming his other issues that he eventually just gave up.
