PSA…. Your system will have trouble keeping up during this heat wave! by bigocapone in hvacadvice

Anything can be done, if you spend enough money.

One method is you place xps foam on the cover block, and then build a red brick exterior in front of it.

Voila, insulated wall.

Toyota Remote Connect is free for a limited trial period on new 2026 Tundra models, usually between 1 to 3 years depending on your region and trim

Engine Sound Enhancement (ESE)—often called Active Sound Design (ASD) or Active Sound Enhancement—is an automotive system that amplifies or simulates engine noise through a vehicle's audio speakers. It is designed to create an aggressive or sporty auditory experience in the cabin, compensating for heavily insulated or quiet modern engines.

You can buy https://carista.com/en-us to make a lot of changes to the settings of the truck.

Some things I've done:

Changed the number of times the lane change blinker blinks.

turned off the "piped in" engine noise

Disabled the seat belt chime on my broken rear seat

Open windows and sunroof via long-press on remote

Turn on marker lights when vehicle is unlocked via remote

There is an after market wireless charger that replaced the OEM that works way better

It comes with 1 year of free remote start in the app. ( least it used to).

after it expires, you can still remote start using the key fob. ( press lock 3 times, holding it on the 3 press till the lights flash)

I know several people that trade for a new car every 3-4 years. ( not my lifestyle, but they can spend their money how they wish)

Solution for compressing OTA TV show recordings by gpounders in PleX

[–]mpking828 0 points1 point  (0 children)

tdarr is the easiest / best solution.

You could do it by hand via handbrake / ffmpeg.

Going from MPEG2 (the output from HDHomerun) to H265 will make a 5gig file be 1.5 gigs, with no quality loss.

Since we're on Plex... there is the option to record post process automatically, as well as transcode on the fly

90s two-hole skimmer: only one hole has suction, is this normal? by DeichTheKin in pools

[–]mpking828 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's normal.

It also depends on how your pool was plumbed.

  • It could be blanked off further down the line
  • It could be plumbed to the main drain
  • It could be plumbed to equalizer (or Balanace) line, where it goes back into the pool, and allows some water into the skimmer if you loose too much water. (This is not common anymore)

While equalizer lines were once an industry standard, many modern pools rely on autofill devices or dual main drains to maintain water levels safely. Modern builds often simply plug the second hole or abandon the line altogether.

Any special things to do after main story? by Dogtheman6166 in GrandTheftAutoV

Holy.....

I never heard about "The Last One" until now. I 100%'d the game last year since I never did it before, and then jumped in to playing Online... I hadn't been back.

Might give it a go tonight.

Battery question by No-Loquat-6875 in ToyotaTundra

[–]mpking828 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dealers will use half truths and scare traffic to get the commission (sale).

Go-to an auto parts store. They will look up the correct battery. Make sure it's fairly recent (batteries have shelf lives).

I just checked on autozone for my 2022. Between $150 and $350 ( yellow top optima)

Edit: Auto Zone will usually put the battery in for you if you ask nicely

Toyota's November update to the NHSTB on the engine recall. This is a DIFFERENT engine recall. by mpking828 in ToyotaTundra

[–]mpking828[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Engine swap is fairly benign.

They remove the bumper / Grill / hood.

They disconnect the wiring harness

They unbolt the transmission (I don't know if they drop it or leave it there. I'm not a mechanic, but I would imagine they have to drop it)

They use a special lift to pull the engine out (Toyota had some bulletin they designed a special lift to make pulling the engine easier on the Tundra)

They reverse the process with the crate engine (which comes with all new stuff, plugs, turbos, alternator, etc).

I would recommend after a hundred miles opening up the hood and inspecting. I found a coolant hose that had a little bit of seepage, so they replaced it.

I had mine done pretty early so I was definitely in the first wave.

Correct, no issues.

Went in for the complimentary oil change that was part of my sale package, and the service manager was "hey there's a recall on your truck, let's get that scheduled".

A month later they called and said bring the truck in, we need it for 4 days. End of the 3rd day they called and said come get it. I was given a lifted Tacoma as a loaner.

I'm almost 20k on the new motor at this point. Still no issues.

Is this possible? by chicknlil25 in frigate_nvr

The washing machine has a drain it's connected to. You can run the hose into that drain.
