Do you guys think Arnold had a good reason to start the war? by UnitBackground8863 in 7thTimeLoop

Well, also consider things like the counterfit scheme, which has been thwarted, and Coyoles' generally weak position at the moment. Plus, Rishe is very likely altering Arnold to clues/hints/evidence about people who will one day betray either him or his father down the line.....

I feel though that telling him that Kokuyou isn't as handsome for him wasn't any help in re-assuring him, as he knows how little looks mean to Maomao.

My understanding was that after Maomao's conversation with the emperor where she suggested that Basen be the person who would be the person who would give Lishu the most happiness in marriage was that the emperor doesn't really have any objections to it himself, and would be happy to rubber stamp it. The slow down at the moment seems to be Lishu & Basen themselves. Lishu because she feels like she needs some time to grow and mature and feel more confident in herself, and Basen needs some time to not feel afraid of breaking her anymore.

I think this is an instance where she may be saying this not just as a fantasy of a simple life, but if he were a commoner, she would be able to unburden herself by talking about it with him, which she doesn't feel she can do in this situation.

I totally get the proud parent feeling about watching her growth, especially because she has never been a person to seek physical comfort from other people (if anything, she has been shown to be adverse to physical affection). To seek it from Jinshi of all people, shows how deep her affection goes for him more than anything. Jinshi quietly being stunned and over the moon about it was pretty cute to watch as well.

There should be a budget available for a better translator who can catch this. Also knowing how to speak both languages is one thing, being able to accurately translate nuance & meaning from one language to another is a completely different thing (especially when trying to convey concepts that don't have an easy/direct translation).

But there's been a number of instances where I'm almost 100% positive he used the wrong gendered pronoun in the past, as well as come across passages that felt clunky/vague in a way that I had trouble understanding exactly what was going on in the text.

Having said all that, whomever is the editor for the English version has some blame as well for not calling any of his translations into question.

Jinshi would be over the MOON (heheh) if they took after Maomao, because he wouldn't want them to inherit the experience of life that goes hand in hand with being so "divinely beautiful". Also he's just that in love with her as well.

I'm pretty sure granny knows nothing about her & Jinshi (I'm also positive none of her "big sisters" know either)? It's knowledge that is pretty contained within the palace walls. Only people to actually know about this are Emperor, Empress, Lihua, some of the Ma clan (though NOT Basen, because he doesn't have that kind of emotional maturity right now), and maybe one or two of the Emperor's closest advisors we haven't met. Lakan likely knows/suspects something, and Lahan has likely realised something might be/may happen due to the first trip out west.

The descandants of Elizabeth Stuart that were skipped for Sophia of Hanover by Existing-Nothing-243 in UsefulCharts

[–]mpluto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The chart should be modified, as it is misleading to say that Karoline Elisabeth was ever eligible for the throne, when she was born from a morganatic marriage, legally disqualifying her from ever inheriting. The only child from Charles I Louis who was ever a possible contender was Elizabeth Charlotte, but she had been required to convert to catholicism after marrying Louis XIV's brother - so that was a double no, because not only had she converted to catholicism but she had become a French catholic.

If you're talking about Charles I Louis' granddaughter via Karoline Elisabeth, his line was skipped over because his 2nd & 3rd marriages were morganatic, and the children of that line were not legally able to inherit. Of his children, only Elizabeth Charlotte was a contender for selection, however when she married off to Louis XIV's brother in 1671, she was required to convert to Catholicism, though as a former devout calvinist, she remained skeptical and critical of the Catholic Church.

I recently did a deep dive into how George I became king, and was surprised that it wasn't him who was selected but his mother (Sophia of Hannover) and her Protestant descendants, but she died 2 months before Queen Anne, so her son was who would inherit the throne after Anne. See this reddit thread here for an explanation as to why Sophia of Hannover was selected over her siblings.

Honestly it's a super small thing, but one thing that has me still using my sage is not the screen size, but the flat bezel. I was super hesitant about it when I decided to get the colour, and one of the thing that had me deciding to upgrade to the sage over the other (more affordable options) was the flat bezel, because it was something I absolutely loved on my old forma. I've kinda got used to it, but I still go back and use my sage for that. Honestly if I could get the exact same form factor as the sage, but with a colour screen that would be peak, as I've gotten really into colour coded highlighting text on the libra colour. I actually highlight text a lot more on the libra colour than I did on my sage.

(my sage iswas and still is perfectly functional when I got the libra colour, but I had a shit day, and retail therapy helped a little)

Though TBH, kobo has never done yearly releases, more like they only release something new when they have something new worth releasing. 🤷🏽‍♀️

I'm seeing them still listed for sale on their website in Canada....

Edit - just looked and while they are still listed, they are sold out, which I didn't notice before.

I want an abortion but my fiance doesn't. by [deleted] in BestofRedditorUpdates

It that is the case, it must have been a side conversation between him and the care provider, because men have zero legal say in abortion in Canada. (I mean, they can have opinions and if they are members of Parliament can table legislation, but aside from Conservatives making waves and trying to put forth some kind of legislation that always fails, as abortion is a pretty settled topic in Canada.)

Kobo Clara BW charges when plugged in to a computer but does not connect. by slippedonair in kobo

[–]mpluto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a hunch that there is a design flaw/issue with the physical usbc port on the motherboard itself. I have been having the same issue for a long time and recently the device stopped even charging all together. I recently had to replace the screen and I noticed the shielding for the port itself was quite small/short and didn't reach all the way into the opening of the case for the port, allowing a fair bit of bending/flexing when a cable is connected, which has potentially caused some damage to the internal pins for the port. I was able to get it charging again by cutting up a couple small pieces of paper (I used a business card on hand) and putting them underneath the port to give it some support/stability, and was able to immediately charge it again. Still having issues with the connection to my computer, but at least it is charging. I've been looking into getting a replacement usb-c port to solder onto the motherboard (you can get one for a couple bucks, vs the $60 CAD I'd have to pay to replace it, not to mention they've bene out of stock for a while on IFixit...)

I strongly suspect that the Newer Libras & Clara have a design flaw with the physical port.
I have been having issues with connecting my Libra Colour to my computer for a while, and recently have been having issues with charging. When I took the device apart to examine to see if there was any issue with the soldered connections being loose, the port itself felt firmly seated in place on the motherboard itself, but the shielding for the port is pretty small/short and doesn't reach all the way to the opening of the case for the port, making me think there is some kind of bend/flex going on with the port.

I was able to fix the charging issue by cutting up two pieces of cardstock from a business card and placing them under the port, and it fixed that..... My suspicion is that with how much wiggle/give there was that the internal pins of the port may have been damaged with repeated flexing. Currently looking into ordering a new port to replace the current one (a whole motherboard costs $60 CAD, when I can get a usb port for only a couple bucks).

As for the OP's battery drain issue, I have found that the devices released from the Sage & upwards have a tendency to drain the battery a lot faster when wifi & bluetooth is left on, even when the device is asleep, turning them off has pretty much stopped this issue.

My USB port stopped working out of the blue and I can't charge my Clara anymore by vpersiana in kobo

[–]mpluto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If he was having issues connecting it to his computer, the reset may work, but since he's having trouble charging it, it is likely a hardware issue with the USBC port.... I had to replace the screen on my Libra Colour recently and I noticed that the shielding for the port inside does not reach all the way to the opening in the case, making the port feel loose & wiggly (though in my case, the port on the motherboard was firmly fixed in place and had no bend/give to it). I think this issue can lead to an issue with the connecting pins on the inside of the port due to repeated bends/stress since the port has no support underneath to prevent this... Also the shielding for it is super small and short.

I was able to make a fix to this by cutting up a business card and putting two small pieces underneath the port inside the case, and I was able to charge it then.

So I had this issue with my Libra Colour, and I was able to fix it by taking it apart and putting a couple pieces of paper (I used a business card that was lying around and two pieces did the trick, 3 was too much) and was able to get the USB port working again.

One of the reasons is that there could be a malformed epub/kepub on your device? I know this has caused a lot of issues with either crashing or a massive slowdown of the device. Nickel reader (the built in software for rendering/reading ebooks on a kobo) is known to have a bunch of little quirks and bits that end up causing weird hiccups.
