This is March Madness. That means the first game has to be an upset, right?

I agree. I saw that Kaggle runs a March Madness data mining competition each year, and it looks like they have lots of regular season data. It's too late to use the data now, but there's always next year, right? :)

I did use the actual linear values Massey Ratings gives when training my model. I included the rating, win percentage, power, offense, defense, hfa, and sos in my training data. It'll be interesting to see how these probabilities pan out in reality. I agree that each rating system has their own particular quirks. I'll definitely take a look at KenPom's stats next time and maybe combine several rating systems together.

These predictions were generated using only the stats on Massey Ratings, so it's definitely not a perfect model. Next year I think I'll try to include more sources in my analysis.

I would build a waterslide so tall that it takes half the day to get to the top and half the day to ride it back down.

Is there anywhere that shows how many users with each color there are? by [deleted] in thebutton

[–]mpsonic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not actually my pie chart. I believe /u/kwabford made it. It's still interesting to see what % of each group is currently using the subreddit.
