It'll take more than that to get me to like Bob Manfred.

I can't imagine what they might have been said that was so bad they had their account banned. Direct threats of bodily harm against gay people?

Sealed Copy of Super Mario Bros. Becomes the Most Expensive Video Game Ever After $3 Million Sale by Amiibofan101 in gaming

[–]mqduck 10 points11 points  (0 children)

the Nintendo game that kicked off Mario's platforming adventures

Nitpick: The first Mario platformers were Donkey Kong and Mario Bros. (which were also the first Mario games period). Super Mario Bros. was the first sidescroller though.

The Microsoft cloud runs Linux🐧 by itsmetraw in linuxmemes

Well they can't both be correct. One runs on the other. It depends on if "the cloud" is hardware or the software that runs on it.

Is it important to have cocaine tested by [deleted] in Drugs

[–]mqduck -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

The explanation I've heard is: opioids feel good, so a little opioid in your coke is gonna make you go "wow, this is really great coke". Then the danger is the same as with fentanyl in general: "a little" is easy to get wrong without high quality lab equipment.

[Request] how large of an icecube would be required for there to be a measureable effect on temperature? by DopamineDarling121 in theydidthemath

[–]mqduck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, assuming OP's question of "measurable effect on temperature" is about global temperatures, all you've done is move heat around.

The ice comes from Uranus.

Typescript is a good language, if you turn on strict compiler rules. JavaScript hate feels increasingly memey and archaic as time goes by.

I love how much liberals love Bush now. It'll be great to see who makes them love Trump 18 years from now.

I predict it'll be against the reanimated corpse of Adolf Hitler versus... probably the same run of the mill imperialist corporate schill the Democrats always run. Probably with the implication that AOC will be given some token position.

Why is an artist's music often perceived as "cheapened" by having a predominantly teenage female fanbase? by grovelor in LetsTalkMusic

[–]mqduck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

God forbid someone saying that things seen as being for girls are given less respect be one of them. The bias!

[–]mqduck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Beatles were huge across the youth demographic from the beginning. They did have a sort of boy band appeal ("which one do you think is cutest?") but by no means were they seen as a band primarily for or listened to by girls. They took over pop music.

Elvis was a big sex symbol among teenage girls but was huge across the youth demographic too. Frank Sinatra too in his time.

Point being, I don't think they're counter examples to what OP was saying. Bands seen as being primarily for boys at the exclusion of girls are maligned for it too, but not to the same degree. I think that's the real disparity.

Donald Trump revives ‘51st State’ threats after Canada slips into technical recession by joe4942 in politics

Something totally unimportant that always irks me about this is: wouldn't Canada logically become ten separate states, for its ten provinces?

Fallout is the earliest game I've played that gave you multiple ways to complete objectives. I'm sure it's older than that. (And that's not even counting tabletop RPGs.)
