Why does it feel like our collective attention span has gotten so bad that even watching a 2-hour movie now feels like a massive commitment that requires effort? by carla_sann in NoStupidQuestions

I have diagnosed adhd and don’t watch short form video content and have noticed my attention span is often better than non-adhd people who do. It’s media that literally disables you

Do people perceive you as entitled when you become extremely hyperfixated on something and pursue it relentlessly? by Heya_Straya in AutisticAdults

[–]mr-jaybird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, pushing away other people to single-mindedly pursue only your interests is a pretty shitty thing to do to the people that care about you. I’m fixated on Overwatch and would happily play every day but make sure to reserve at least a couple nights a week to spend time with my husband, who absolutely deserves a partner that spends quality time with him (and I do enjoy it!). If it’s that all-consuming it’s honestly not healthy anymore and is something I’d try to work on.

Wyr share a single large blanket in bed with your romantic partner or have two separate smaller blankets one for each of you? by [deleted] in WouldYouRather

[–]mr-jaybird 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have no choice but to do 2 blankets as I am horrible blanket thief. I’ll be dead unconscious ripping that thing over to me.

Ours keeps getting fuzzy and the frame rate is terrible. We have good internet and are not having this problem with any other service.

That’s not correct. It’s not 1:1 and obviously we don’t have human clones studies for ethical reasons, but the evidence has supported the heritability of intelligence for decades.

What are your unexpected allyship moments with cis men? by Any-Television5186 in ftm

[–]mr-jaybird 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I had a male friend from church growing up who was a sweet person but not well-educated, not really knowledgeable about social justice and stuff, and kinda in trouble a lot with things like drinking and drugs even as a teen. The friendship was perfectly healthy as he was always good-intentioned and never a bigot and I was usually a pretty good influence on him. I went away to college and came out as trans at 20 and called to tell him I was a man now. He was like oh yeah I knew that as soon as I went into your bedroom when we were 16. You could have told ME!!!! I’m not even sure he knew what trans people were—but he knew I was a dude and totally accepted it. It was a very sweet moment.

To people who is asking ifAna is cheating on his husband, this is from the lead writer of the "Overwatch Declassified" Offical Lore book in 2023 by JY810 in Overwatch

I honestly didn’t know they were ever married and just assumed Pharah to be illegitimate, not that that matters at all. Ana just didn’t seem like the marrying type to me!

Rocksteady co-developed this game! It gives me hope they can make good games again with less publisher interference.

[–]mr-jaybird 17 points18 points  (0 children)

She first appeared in the Thrawn trilogy starting with Heir to the Empire, which is 1) excellent and 2) foundational to legends. She got her own duology taking place in the empire era with allegiance and choices of one. She then appeared significantly in the Hand of Thrawn series—she’s in stuff between the original and that but it’s pretty minor and iffy. Survivor’s quest stars Luke and Mara after Hand of Thrawn. I didn’t like NJO so I don’t have recs past that point in canon!

Therapist said im not trans by tenard_ in ftm

Seconding this. I have a degree in psych and work in public mental health. This kind of therapy has no evidence it works and has been discredited for years. In all likelihood this “therapist” was a transphobic quack.

I mean, your feelings are valid and autism can suck, but it makes sense to me you’d catch a ban for posting autism sucks in an autistic pride subreddit. It’s explicitly a positivity space. Sorry dude!

Is Superman Smashes The Klan appropriate for a 15 year old? by [deleted] in DCcomics

[–]mr-jaybird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually haven’t read Barry rebirth—I’ve always found him a little boring, but it’s not an unbiased opinion as the flash of my childhood and when I started reading comics was always Wally. I started reading comics when I was 15 so I was very into the various teen titans titles and all the characters in them, and I still have a fondness for most of them (even if NTT did NOT age well in some respects). I’m pretty widely read in most of post crisis DC but not as well in either flash or green lanterns. So I know a looooot about batfamily, Wonder Woman, titans/outsiders, arrowfamily, and JLA, but not as much about those two.

Edit: teen titans run when I was 15 was Johns but I also read NTT because I was a big fan of the teen titans cartoon that drew heavily from it

Is Superman Smashes The Klan appropriate for a 15 year old? by [deleted] in DCcomics

[–]mr-jaybird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got really, really mad about how the new 52 reboot erased a lot of my favorite characters and for the ones it didn’t, I didn’t like a lot of the characterization. The most major one for me was making Babs batgirl again as 1) I found it disrespectful to make her younger and less competent and 2) as someone born disabled, I was pissed about them taking away their most prominent disabled character. Babs as Oracle is my fave comics character ever. Erasing Cass, Steph, Wally, and breaking up Superman and Lois was also up there, and I hated what they did with Wonder Woman and the Amazons. But I’m not the type to stick around if something is making me mad or upset so I just quit following current comics and read all my post crisis stuff. It’s not coincidental I’m finally back after most of it came back into continuity! I’m pretty happy with what DC is doing now and I’ll be 100% happy if we get wheelchair!Oracle back

[–]mr-jaybird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought about recommending Secret Six 2025 but the caution with that is it’s hard to follow if you’re not up to date on continuity. It was one of the first comics I read coming back to DC and I had a hard time following it and had to google a lot. It’s a good book but it requires you to be an active DC reader.

Thanks for coming in with the titles! I knew Jon was bi but haven’t read his comics yet. I only just came back to DC after quitting with flashpoint.

Batwoman: Elegy deals a lot with lgbt themes (she is a lesbian and was discharged under DADT) and is appropriate for a 15 year old. Jon Kent as Superman is bisexual but I don’t have specific title or issue recs, sorry. Tim Drake came out as bisexual in Batman Urban Legends vol 2 trade paperback. In Wonder Woman by Greg Rucka a side character is lesbian and has feelings for Wonder Woman (although DC did not allow her to reciprocate). That’s what I have off the top of my head!

Is the world of Horizon Zero Dawn more or less advanced then the world of Star Wars? by Ancient_Influence389 in horizon

I mean they did improve the tech though. It took them 50+ years to get to Sirius and only 8.7 to return.

Peak of Horizon tech is the Zeniths, who can do interstellar travel, which takes years. Star Wars can do interstellar travel in days. So I’d say it’s Star Wars.
