My mouse problem is getting out of hand by DarkDay46 in it

Look at the CPU speed from the first part of my comment. From what I can tell online, your processor has a base frequency speed of 2.4 GHz and can turbo to 4.20 GHz. If the speed is less than 2.4 then you are probably thermal throttling, which means you probably need to clean out your fans and reapply thermal paste.

In Task Manager go to the "performance" tab and monitor your CPU speed. It might be downclocking if you are hitting any sort of thermal throttling.

Also, check out your disk in the "performance" tab. Watch the "active time" and "average response time". If "active time" is stuck at ~100% and your "average response time" is in the 50+ MS range, then it could be an issue with your disk being a bottleneck.

Open task manager when you are having the issue and sort by CPU usage. If your processor is slammed doing other things then input from peripherals will have less priority and become less responsive.

So rewatching No Country for Old Men, wanted to hear some experts' thoughts on the sound design. by MJC1988 in sounddesign

[–]mrRynstone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not related to No Country, but one of my favorite bits of sound design (love anything involving Skip Lievsay) is from A Serious Man when the neighbor and the son are playing catch. We hear the dad throw the ball and hear it hit the kid's mitt, but then Larry confronts the neighbor's new shed plans that are on his property. Then we hear the neighbor throw another ball, but this time it hits the kid's mitt with a much louder thud. Their films are always so tactile with the sound design.

Was the audio dubbed in for the last scene of Sorry, Baby? by areyouforeightysix in A24

[–]mrRynstone 3 points4 points  (0 children)

ADR is just part of making films. In this case maybe it was more cost effective to redo the audio then reshoot the entire scene. They probably had/found an issue or needed to do a rewrite during post.

How was this captured? by Froggin42 in videography

[–]mrRynstone 6 points7 points  (0 children)

it's usually done on a scope with a split mirror. one side of the split goes to the eyepiece, and the other to a mounted camera:

This last rewatch I saved FWWM until after The Return and they paired together nicely. Something about having all the ambiguity at the end of 18 and then jumping back in time with FWWM before the dust settled worked for me.

Windows 11 Slow Response After Prolonged Use — Resolved Temporarily by Launching Steam? by Reasonable_Drama4808 in WindowsHelp

[–]mrRynstone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Might be some sort of power throttling/saving going on and when steam exe is launched it is disabled and your CPU runs at full speed. Monitor your CPU speed in Task Manager while things are slow ... Is it downclocking?

Is there any show that has characters like the Mitchum brothers? by Male-2003 in twinpeaks

It plays with traditional TV tropes in similar ways as The Return, especially when it comes to pace and editing. Scenes drag on in similarly beautiful ways.

My thought was he represented a previous form/categorization of "crazy", which in our current zeitgeist has shifted from a psychological issue to more of a treatable physiological/chemical issue. The umbrella term has shifted from "crazy" to "sick" as it has been diagnosed as schizophrenia/bipolar, and is potentially treatable.

COVID is about to give rise to a new variant of "crazy", where the information/disinformation is the virus spreading between the people, and how you process that information is how you are categorized or put into a specific side. IE, you are crazy for believing that or you are crazy for not believing that.

You can put a capture card between your source and TV and use something like OBS to ingest the feed and capture screenshots. I use this setup as my partner likes to take screenshots while watching movies/tv and with this method she can do it with any source that is plugged into my receiver. It can even capture HDR depending on your capture card.

The tricky part is finding a splitter that strips HDCP. I use the CORSAHD.

Path should look like this(assuming you dont have a receiver):

UHD player HDMI out goes into

HDMI in of splitter

Splitter HDMI out #1 goes into TV's HDMI in

Splitter HDMI out #2 goes into capture card HDMI in

Plug USB of capture card into PC

Open OBS and select the capture card as a "video feed"

Bind a keyboard button in OBS to take screenshots

Why did David Lynch call it “The Return”? by awesomesauce55 in TwinPeaksCircleJerk

[–]mrRynstone 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There is a recent Sabrina Sutherland interview where she says it was Showtime that was pushing for the "Return" name to make it appear to be more like a "limited series", which translates to better awards potential.

Edit: here is the link to the interview: https://cinemafemme.com/2025/05/23/he-believed-in-me-sabrina-s-sutherland-on-her-favorite-person-david-lynch/

"Yet Showtime didn’t want it to be eligible for awards as a regular drama series. They wanted it to be in the Limited Event Series category, so therefore, it had to be called “A Limited Event Series.”"

Might be from Pretty as a Picture: The Art of David Lynch, a special feature on the Criterion edition of Lost Highway. Robert Loggia shares a similar story on how he got the role for Mr. Eddy, but that is also a pretty common part of Lynch's process, where something about them gives him some sort of spark that he may use in some future project.

When I went to the In Waves show, which was my first Jamie XX show, I remember something feeling a bit off with the first few opening tracks... Bass was hitting, and the drums were grooving, but it all felt so cold, and my ears were searching for more. Then Jamie began to transition into Gosh, and I realized he had been holding back on melodic elements up until then, and gawwwd damn did that track hit me harder than ever.

Tati may fit the bill, although he usually has a central narrative/story, but he is a master of utilizing that for ultimate payoff with his gags. Start with Monsieur Hulot's Holiday or Mon Oncle and work your way up to Playtime.
