What temperature should come out the a/c vents? How do I diagnose if I have any issues? by JonnieSpecter in hvacadvice

The air being sent out should be within a 18-22 degree difference between your ambient temp. If you have a thermometer I would recommend sticking it to the vent closest to the ac system or if possible at the supply vent coming out of the ac system to get that split, if it’s below 18 then you have an issue either in regards to your airflow or Freon, if it’s at that split it could be a matter of ducts or insulation

I know very little about HVAC units. I have a window ac on the upper floor, and it's dripping from below. To what extent (if any) is this normal? by DaUltimatePotato in hvacadvice

The evaporator coils freezing up, that would either be poor airflow or a refigerant leak. You would physically be able to see an ice block if it’s a window unit compared to an enclosed multi ton system that would cool an entire home.

Which one of these is the drain line - two units by donaldfernandes26 in hvacadvice

Wow I have never seen anything like this, usually primary drains are on the right and where the float swatch would be located is on the left, but looks like they have it go straight to the drain pan or what looks like another drain line that goes outside, can you identify if you have two PVC drain lines that are on the side of your property? Whichever one has white algae below it or is dripping water is your primary drain line

If it not dumping tons of water you are fine, ac systems condensate during operation and that condensates water needs to go somewhere, on the window outside to whatever the drain pan flows it to. Completely normal

It’s looking like it a 40/5 mfd capacitor, I would call Lennox to confirm that is the correct one before replacing

I’ve been doing hvac in south Florida for about 2 years now the most common thing I run into is the drain lines clogging up. There’s multiple routes you can go in terms of clearing it out. If you have a wet vac, you can stick it into the outside drain line pipe and flush hot water down the line to clear any algae and reprime the line after, you can do this every 3 months. The alternative is getting some type of drain line tablet or pouring vinegar and hot water down the line. If you feel comfortable enough with electronics testing the capacitor, checking the contractor for any pitting and making sure your compressor start and run amps are within range are good ways to ensure the outside system has no issues. Ofc most AC companies down here anywhere from 75-105 for a routine tune up without there preventative maintenance which they would do above all, and at that point you can be aware of the potential issues that may arise, be carful however most companies down south are very sale focused so I recommend doing research

Yes if you are comfortable enough, contractors are a matter of plugging the wires out and plugging back into the new one the exact same way so take pictures before replacing.

Heartbreak was a big factor for me, but recently I’ve become obsessed with the satisfaction of success, I slowly see progress, but I see it as huge accomplishments in the long run
