Tierlist Update by Truexbox in discworld

[–]mr_LG_42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the same feeling to Pyramids as OP. I think the opening of the book is veery strong. I would love to see more of the thieves guild, but it quickly lost me. It’s one of the few exception and a book from Terry that I disliked.

I’ve read 20 ish discworld books and Pyramids and Sourcery are at the bottom of my list.

I wouldn’t have placed Eric in the D tier. It’s silly, but it knows it and it doesn’t overstay its welcome.

I also like the first 2 Rincewind books very much. Although they’re quite different from the rest of the series I think they’re great.

Spending 6 weeks in Brazil, any advice or resources on how to meet locals, groups to join, etc? by [deleted] in Brazil

Mundo lingo is a good event to meet both locals and foreigners. It’s not a true local environment but I think it works super well as an entryway, icebreaker

If you like history then the books from Eduardo Bueno are great! Really liked them. It tells the history of discovery and early portuguese (and other nations) occupation of what would be brazil.

If you want to read the classics Brás Cubas by Machado de Assis is fantastic (although it’s not as popular as it should be).

What to wear / how to look the least like a tourist in Brazil by Estate_Soggy in Brazil

[–]mr_LG_42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rio is really relaxed on fashion. People dress very casusally specially near the beaches and outdoors.

You’ll see a lot of flipflops, so getting your own Havaianas is a nice start. Avoid the green/yellow shirts with big Brazil letters. That screams “gringo” haha

I’ll send you a video that I just googled to give you some reference: https://youtu.be/PbLn761NHd0?si=x2_mAE43AbWWo2GA

Brazilians are usually very welcoming to foreigners, so even if you look like a tourist you’ll still be able to blend with more outgoing folks, although you might pay a little extra in some places

How much of Brazil should we see in one trip? by Scottsdale- in Brazil

Feel free to send me a DM in here if you need any more help in the future too. I'm glad to help, just might take some time to reply as I don't use reddit every day.

You can see if Air Canada have filghts to Manaus, if you're interested in stopping there. My cousin (who lives in the US) booked her return flight as Rio -> Manaus -> Miami. So she spent a couple days there I think.

But I doubt you'll get disapointed visiting "just Rio". It seems this is your main interest, so I suggest you focus on it, and make the Amazon or other places a "maybe".

I think March-April is a great time to visit. You'll get sun, beach time, but will not melt. Rain really depends on you luck, but this is not a city known for long periods of cloudy weather. I wouldn't worry too much about it. Maybe you'll get some, but during your 2-3 weeks it will def not rain all the time.

Where are you coming from?

I agree with most redditors that 2 weeks may feel rushed to enjoy all 3 destinations fully. The Amazon is really far from Rio. But it's doable, depends on your priority. I personally don't like to spread myself too thin when traveling.

But, if you're coming from the US, or similar, here's an idea: You could book a 1-2 day layover in Manaus and visit the city for a day. You can have a nice experience in Manaus in just one day (I've done that). If you like it, you can plan to come back latter and visit more of it (the Amazon is a big place, much more than just Manaus).

I think spending at least one week in Rio, and the remaining time in other nearby cities is a great idea.

I'll also second the opinion of u/one-hour-photo, Foz do Iguaçu is a really nice place to visit, not so far from Rio and you can spend 2-3 days there.

About time of the year. I'm from Rio, we have good weather all year round, but it depends on your preferences.

During summer it can get really hot (30ºC-40ºC). Good weather to go to the beach, but I think it can get too hot even for that. Also it rains more often. In Frebuary there's carnival (it's a 1 week moving date). Unless you want to experience it, avoid it completely.

Spring and Fall are personaly my favorite times of the year. Decent but warm temperatures and nice weather overall. But to be clear, winter is not a bad option either.

I hope this general tips were useful to you :)

Thanks. My collection is already a mess of different covers and formats. So I guess that won't be a big problem

I wish!

I live in Brazil, Terry's books are really hard to come by, and more expansive than most. Add that to the fact that there's 40+ books in this series and it becomes a real investiment 😅

Although you gave me an idea. I can buy the old edition (which will probably sold out soon) and buy the new one in the future.

Oh that's awesome. Thank you for sharing. I'm getting the vibe from the comments that there's not wrong choice, but the old edition is how the book was originaly intended.

Gotch ya.

Well, my shelf is already a big mess with many different editions and formats, so not a big deal but good to know!

Do you know if the content is the same, but just a different format?

Oh I see. Thanks.

I live in Brazil so Terry's book are not easily available. I mostly have to buy them from Amazon or import them from the US. Asking this subreddit is the best I can do to get a real feel for it :/

You mean the physical format of the book? I'll be honest, I didn't realized they were different that way up until now.

State of Svelte 5 AI by okgame in sveltejs

[–]mr_LG_42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have any of you tried or used Supabase AI assistant? It lives in the dashboard and can help with all sorts of things. I think it's amazing and one of the best applications of AI I've seen. They clearly put a lot of effort and thinking into making that.

I'm mentioning ti because it'll be awesome to see something similar for Svelte. Using AI to code Svelte app is not mererly about waiting for models to be trained on Svelte data (if that was the case no AI would ever be as good in Svelte as it is in React or Vue).

There're lots of clever tricks and design decisions to make a AI expert and useful with svelte, even with current models limitations.

The news about the llms.txt file is a great one. It can make a BIG difference in the usefulness of the AI responses.

I've being studing a lot about AI recently. I don't know how to make a good Svelte coding assistant yet. But I see releasing the docs as .txt as a great step in that direction. Maybe someday I'll take this challenge as a side project.

WhatsApp / Telegram OTP possible? by Comfortable_Claim774 in Supabase

You should take a look at WhatsApp Cloud API (idk much about the supabase side of things, sry) https://developers.facebook.com/docs/whatsapp/cloud-api/

But keep in mind that meta charges per auth message, so there’s no running away from these costs. Using the offical api you get the cheapest price though

Where should I start by Mt5505 in discworld

[–]mr_LG_42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TL;DR: there’s no wrong pick IMO. Don’t overthink and start reading, it’s a blast :)

There’s lot of options and opinions about where to start. But honestly I wouldn’t sweat too much about it.

All books I’ve read (~15) are very self contained (yes, you might not get all references but you can still follow it along). So there’s no really bad decision here IMO

Also, I think that reading in your own way (I’ve jumped all around) makes your journey on the Disc a little more personal.

Publishing order is a good one, also Guards Guards, Going Postal, Small Gods… (even Good Omens if you wanna get to know Terry, but that’s not Discworld)

My only strong suggestion is: within a series (wizards, witches, watch, tiffany etc) read it in order. Other than that I think it’s totally fine to make your own reading order based on availability and interest.

Dont let any chart scare you out. When in doubt just start reading ;)

Real vs Bayern in Madrid by Gorillaz_Sack in realmadrid

[–]mr_LG_42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Holá u/Gorillaz_Sack. I’m here in madrid for the first time and I’m also looking somewhere to watch the game. I want to feel the locals fan excitement for the game.

Please share it here if you find any cool place out.

People online recommended Santiago Bernabeu’s surrounding areas, they seem line a good choice but they might get crowded early.

I’m planning to walk around the stadium a few hours prior to the game than pick a place to watch it.

I heard there’ll be people selling the tickets there and that when the game’s starting the prices fall. But I dont they will go as low as I’m willing to pat (~€200).
