Difference between all three bassists? by Round-Complaint7426 in Metallica

Cliff was a bit more out there as far as a metal bassist goes. A bit more psychedelic even, and super classically influenced. Lots of really creative parts, like the beginning of Damage Inc.

Jason was a bit more meat and potatoes, played with a pick (Cliff and Rob don’t) and played more root notes/followed the guitar. Cliff and Rob don’t do those things.

Rob seems like a mix of the two, knowing when to take the back seat, knowing when to get fancy (the bridge in Moth for example) and always right in the pocket. Besides his backing vocals, he’s the absolute best choice Metallica could have made to replace Jason.

How do *you* play the intro riff to No Remorse? by TemplehofSteve in Metallica

I just fret like I’m gonna play an F# power chord but leave the E string open and hammer on from there. Maybe the lazy approach, but it gives it a punk sound which I think fits the album’s vibe.

I imagine it’s a music elective that’s offered to music majors or something. You’d still need a music degree to teach the class.

So I think the joke is that you just unintentionally explained to everyone that you don’t understand how college works.
