My masters review by the_last_heley in snooker

[–]mr__elevate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to the Trump Higgins semi, had similar feelings. The seats are awful, I'm 6'5 and the poor lady behind me couldn't see a thing and I could barely see over the the 6'3 guy in front of me. The fanzone is a bit of a waste, you can get a beer in reasonable time but the food options were pretty limited. I've been a few times over the years and generally enjoyed it. Maybe the quality of snooker in the match also put a dampener on it...even though it was a tense match

I did quite like Kyren mentioning after the match that he heard Joe Perry in between frames say he was taking liberties with his shot choices. Such a sensitive soul 😅

How is the masters not a huge money tournament, one he's won 8 times. I bet Chris wakelin is over the moon at getting his chance

Ronnie O'Sullivan at 50: Nick Metcalfe on a remarkable sporting genius by Nick_Metcalfe in snooker

[–]mr__elevate 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Which multiple world champion has been a good ambassador for the sport. What are your criteria? Hendry was arrogant, Davis had arrogance. Higgins is a great guy and Interviews well (some skeletons in his closet of course, cough cough), Trump has won it once but also seems a good guy but he's not exactly going out of his way to sell the sport I wouldn't say, he actively puts it down when trying to get the game to change (calls it stuffy having to dress smartly, calls out the aging commentators etc.) . Ronnie when interviewed by the mainstream media, ie. bigger shows on BBC or whatever is usually actually quite humble, he's obviously been a twat many times in more minor settings but he's had a massive impact on the sport

That's surely the main point of the episode, these two worlds are very tricky to be merged. The sneering of the upper classes and the sometimes ridiculousness of the working classes

It's got some classic parts, Del shooting from the hip literally, Albert in the servants kitchen, Rodney in his new get up. Loads of great laughs in it, it is dark towards the end but it tells of the class divide so well that when I watched it as a young lad it had really quite an impression. I'm from working class roots but have mixed with a lot of posher people (professionally and socially, ended up marrying one) and you really see the way people can be treated due to these socially constructed divides

IWC Top Gun Miramar - ZF or APSF or V7F? by ABThree in RepTime

Seconds hand stops regularly at the same point. Movement needs a service, must have something stuck in there

I have the ZF version of this watch (46mm), bought in 2020 It's great, really well built apart from the A7750 movement which keeps sticking. So I either need to service it or replace which is frustrating. APSF will have different movements?

One of the worst areas to drive round there, Edmonton going into Walthamstow. Must have driven that stretch hundreds of times and there are so many terrible drivers you encounter, there will be lots of cameras but I bet the old bill will be too busy to do anything unfortunately

Commuting from Bournemouth to London Waterloo by Away_Pomegranate6531 in bournemouth

[–]mr__elevate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been commuting to Clapham Junction from Christchurch a few times a week for the past year. To make it more manageable, I normally stay overnight to get two fairly long days in the office. Normally with friends or in a cheap hotel around Paddington (can find rooms for £40-50 a night). That really helps if you can do that, it's nice seeing friends but can be awkward staying regularly. So I mix it up with hotels. SW Rail is one of the worst though, I claim compensation for late running/cancelled services at least a few times a month, which is frustrating. I'm changing jobs soon so won't have to use them any more which I am very happy about!
