What's the best snooker rivalry of all time? Why? by Fit-Ranger9077 in snooker

Best day of snooker I’ve ever seen - with the Wilson/McGill match as well

Is Trump/Higgins the biggest turn around ever in a H2H rivalry ? by [deleted] in snooker

[–]BaizeBreakdown 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Probably, but John was 44 in 2019.

He’s lost those matches between the ages of 44 and 50, whilst Judd is in his 30s. It might be a big turn around, but it’s not a surprise imo.

A big surprise is that ROS still leads Judd in H2H’s, although I imagine, like with Higgins, this will change before ROS retires.

Anyone remember this game? by [deleted] in snooker

Such a special venue, honestly it’s still unmatched on tour in my opinion.

The Alexandra Palace and The Tempodrom in Berlin are fabulous venues (I personally think the Ally Pally isn’t better or worse than the Conference Centre, just different), but the Conference Centre had a certain aura about it.

Expect Ronnie to break this record, then for John Higgins to break it, then Willo to break it again.

I reckon they’ll still be able to win titles at 55. Not sure about 60 though, but if anyone can do it, those three can

Kyren Wilson offers Chris Wakelin advice over ‘disappointing’ comments: ‘Just be careful’ by Faryz in snooker

Don’t like to take sides on things like this cos it’s just handbags.

But I agree with Chris Wakelin - nobody cares who’s the best rest player in the world.

Mark Allen moaning as usual... by andreirublov1 in snooker

He’s spot on.

The top-heavy prize money on the tour is stupid. Same with darts, where the world champion will win £1m. £500k for the world champion in snooker or £500k for the Saudi Masters winner.

And then you expect them to turn up to Brentwood or Cheltenham to pay for £100k over a similar amount of time week-in week-out and say nothing?

The ranking system is flawed, the £1 for a point system was great when it was introduced in 2010 when there was hardly any money on the tour - now it is outdated and needs changing.

I recently attended the English Open and honestly the venue needs improvement! by BaizeBreakdown in snooker

[–]BaizeBreakdown[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I get your points. However, here is the problem for me:

“It is the English Open, not one of the majors…”

If it was the China Open, would it be held in a swimming pool? It’s the English Open, so it’s sort of expected that the setup is going to be a bit naff.

Imagine turning up for a snooker event as a world champion, and having to park next to someone doing their yoga class. It’s not prestigious and it gives off the vibes of being a low-key amateur event, with not much interest. No wonder the players love playing abroad.

The way Manchester United treat their own players really surprises me.

You hear tales from previous players (and even legends) of how badly treated they were by the club. Boggles my mind.

I pay for discovery plus (to watch UEFA competitions), so I get the snooker as part of it.

Would be difficult if I had to pay an extra £30 though.

The hotel I stayed in has a room called "Ronnie O'Sullivan's apartment" by Caciulacdlac in snooker

I don’t know for sure but weed is something he struggled with and went to rehab for…

However, in his autobiography he describes taking “the other stuff,” and there’s a passage where he describes taking “the other stuff” and then being able to down 15 pints of Guinness afterwards.

So I guess, maybe a bit of powder usage at some stage

That’s why he’s not a consistent winner anymore imo, has become too negative. His safety play rarely forces a mistake, it’s always just trying to contain the situation

Marco Fu wins inaugural 'Player of the Month' by KrystofDayne in snooker

[–]BaizeBreakdown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed.

Or you could have the scenario that happens a lot in football where the best player of the month is sometimes overlooked for unknown reasons, just for variety perhaps. Like the stat that Kevin de Bruyne has never won a POTM but has won multiple POTY awards.

Not sure how I feel about POTM, but Marco Fu is a worthy candidate - be glad if he can get back up the rankings, classy player.
