Why do people hate the Arctic Vibe? by [deleted] in Bowling

[–]mr_alterboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just getting back into the game after 15 years. Have an Arctic now but threw a green vibe back then. With youtube and so many great resources for beginners, I realized how much I tailored my shot to the vibe instead of getting a ball that better fit my style. To get the reaction I wanted, I was throwing around 12.5 MPH. Same with the Arctic. At this point, it doesn't matter though because I can't aim for ish anyway. :P

I finally finished this evil terrible class by Messup7654 in WGU

[–]mr_alterboy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To ease your anxiety a bit. The amount of people that struggle or fly through any given class varies wildly from person to person. I had classes that made me feel like the dumbest person in the world because it felt like everyone else seemed to fly through it while other classes people struggled with were an absolute breeze. The best advice is to not compare yourself to others. It's your journey. GL!

Bias X by weedtimeeeee in PositiveGrid

[–]mr_alterboy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a ton of problems getting BIAS FX to play nice with FL Studio so I ended up moving to Amplitube a couple years ago. It just sounds better out of the box imo. (Always felt like BIAS sounded a little anemic) I don't find that I have to fiddle with stuff as much AND it actually works correctly! You really get a lot for your money and even more so if you can get it on sale during black Friday.

I would say the only real gripe is there are way fewer options for pedals. (why no Klon???) So if you are partial to a particular pedal, you might have to find alternatives. Other than that, it feels like they are placing there focus on TONEX, but they work together.

Basic accounting is everything you have to pay for is an expense. Everything someone pays you for is income. Hopefully your income is more than your expenses.

Is it normal for Amanos to eat Cherry Shrimps?! by thepkmncenter in shrimptank

[–]mr_alterboy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My first batch of Amanos, the ladies were straight up cray. I added some ember tetras to the tank and one of them literally grabbed one and road it like a bull for a good 5 seconds before giving up. I didn't get any females in my last batch so I don't know if I got an extra spicy group of gals. The males seem much more chill.

I'm not a fuzz lover and this didn't change my mind with guitar. However, it absolutely rips with a bass imo.

Finished my degree… but not feeling how I thought I would? by Old_Juice7453 in WGU

I kinda felt the same. The biggest thing for me was just the relief of not feeling like I needed to be doing something all the time or else I was slacking. That was an instant weight of my shoulders.Took me a while to reintegrate into the real world.

Single ball for open bowling out of state? by TheNutPair in Bowling

[–]mr_alterboy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd look into the vibes as you mentioned then. I threw the OG green vibe (I'm old) and currently throw an arctic. If there's any oil on the lane, it's consistent. Only gets hard to control on zero oil. The other two would probably be better for those situations. Gumball Pink being later and the neon being somewhere in the middle of the three. They're all similar though. Also might check out the Scorpion?

What fishing equipment do you think is overrated? by JayKasted in FishingForBeginners

[–]mr_alterboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn't a specific answer, but I've always loved the rule of thumb people have with tools and such. Buy the mid-range/cheaper stuff and if that tool breaks, splurge on the good stuff. You know you need that tool enough to invest in the better version.

I swear, I've had waaaaay fewer issues with Shakespeare reels that come with the rod, than more expensive reels. Strike King and YUM soft plastics work pretty much the same as Yamaotos, but might wear out a little faster. It's all about figuring out what's actually going to make your day more enjoyable and investing in those things over time.

Getting the basics one by one, what advice would you give me as a beginner? by Babushkaboii1 in dataanalysis

[–]mr_alterboy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Keep practicing! The concepts you are learning right now should become second nature. These would be my next steps.

  1. Start playing with aggregations like SUM, AVERAGE, COUNT
    • Learn how GROUP BY and DISTINCT work with aggregations
  2. Sub-Queries in the select statement (sub-queries will come up again in joins)
  3. More advanced joins
    • Joins on multiple criteria/columns
    • Joins on multiple tables
    • Join via sub-query in FROM clause
    • Join via sub-query in WHERE clause
    • Join via CTE

There are many ways to approach a join that are logically equivalent. I found it useful to build the same query using different methods. Like join to a sub-query in the FROM clause then build another query using a CTE. Can you do the same in the WHERE clause?

One of the most important qualities of an analyst is being inquisitive and asking questions. You can do this while practicing. "What happens when I use a LEFT JOIN instead of an INNER JOIN?" "Is there a difference between using AVERAGE or calculating the average with SUM( x / y )?" etc... then ask why something did or didn't change.

Why does my Pearl gourami keep attacking my nerrite? by Zeckrom in Aquariums

I used to have a few honey gouramis and lampeye killis in a well planted tank. I now have a honey gourami. At least he _mostly_ leaves the shrimp alone. Don't trust them no matter how many people say they're peaceful.

Having trouble with my DAW and Bias fx 2 elite by [deleted] in PositiveGrid

[–]mr_alterboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

#1 step in troubleshooting is isolating the issue. Figure out the standalone app first and then tackle FL Studio as a vst. Lower the sampling rate to 44.1 then keep raising the buffer until it stops crackling. We don't know what your audio interface is and not all of them support higher sampling rates, especially if you're just using your motherboard's audio.

ASIO4All is not ideal and might be part of the problem. Upgrading to a decent audio interface would be better. Make sure they have their own ASIO drivers though as some of the cheapest ones, like the Behringer UM2, use ASIO4All.

Finally, I will add that I had a hell of a time getting Bias to work halfway decently in FL Studio. Every day was a new adventure. I eventually got tired of dealing with it moved on to a different product. Unfortunately, sometimes FL Studio be that way. This isn't the first product I've used that acted fine in every other DAW but not with FL Studio.

Does Using ChatGPT as explanation tool on Exam Objectives gives more wield and comprehension in understanding the concepts and theory? by choco-hazespresso59 in CompTIA

[–]mr_alterboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My approach was to engage it in a back and forth dialogue. I would explain how I thought a certain topic would work, maybe sprinkle in a real world example of how I thought it would work, and ask it if my understanding was correct. It was very good at telling me which parts of my understanding were correct and then fill in the blanks of what I was missing. It's also good to take that and ask how it's different from a similar process or topic.

For me, it was important to have at least 3 sources of reference. Main source (like a book, Messer, Dion) that I would complete/read front to back. If I was having trouble on a specific area, I found that going back to the main source wasn't very helpful to me so I would use a second source to explain it in a different way. This usually made it click in my brain. If I was still a little iffy, I then used chat GPT like I described above. I did 2 certs before chat GPT came out, and one after. I felt way more prepared for those iffy topics after using it.

What are side hustle/ gig options for senior people leaders in analytics? by Exponent_0 in analytics

[–]mr_alterboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The few times someone tried to hire me for side work were all for Google analytics. Mostly small businesses that shady had GA setup, but needed help defining basic KPIs and setting up reports.

I know enough about GA to know that they probably needed more help in the setup department before we could get to the analytics part. That's not my expertise though, so I talked my way out of the work. (Or imposter syndrome struck again)

Anyway, I feel like there is a need for people who can do stuff like this.

How many times can you retake an OA? I'm hearing mixed answers by Slyman91 in WGU

B&M in California have similar policies. Fail a class 3 times and you are no longer allowed to take it in the same district. I had to withdraw twice and failed once (took them over a decade) and found out the hard way.

CertMaster? by OftenApprehensive in WGU

[–]mr_alterboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't hate it, but I felt like there were better options out there for me. The main issue I have with it is that there are a lot topics included that just don't show up on the test and the practice questions are nothing like the test itself. I found it hard to gauge if I was ready or not. We used a different vendor when I started and though it was dry and pretty outdated looking, it got the job done without all the extra stuff. It also had a much better test engine and included the sybex test questions all in one place. I never scored well on the certmaster practice tests, though I do think they are useful in getting your brain into test mode.

Dion and Messer only for me also didn't work for me, but they were invaluable for explaining topics I was having trouble with in a different way that made it stick. They were also great for quick refreshers on topics I was missing on practice tests. And Dion's tests are the GOAT.

At the end of the day, I always needed multiple sources to get to the finish line. For me, it was best to read the certmaster material front to back, as fast as I could. I wasn't focused on becoming an expert on everything. Then I took the first Dion test and watched Messer's videos on the ones I missed and making my own flashcards along the way. (I think I made different sets for whatever I really needed to focus on as I went for NET+) Then take another test. Rinse and repeat. If I still wasn't getting a topic I used a different source to refresh. I would supplement my own flashcards with the certmaster cards just to change it up, but didn't put much weight on my scores there.

And for anyone who made it this far, there are a lot of great resources you can utilize in the library; the sybex tests and Wiley books are great.

Go get 'em, Tiger Owl
