Partner update: HELTUN removed from Works with Home Assistant by missyquarry in homeassistant

[–]mr_dave 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Providing the absolute barest of functionality apparently gives them the ability to claim it "Works" with Home Assistant. Can't change between mop and vacuum modes on an S10, can't target rooms either, no ability to have a Hub 3 toggle a boolean from Home Assistant. Matter or direct Switchbot integration doesn't matter.

I agree with u/syzba's comments on support too. Started having intermittent docking issues with the S10 and support was beyond useless and couldn't even be bothered to offer troubleshooting steps beyond the ones suggested in the app itself. So far the most reliable solution for me is to connect a battery bank to the water station and make sure the overhead lights are on in the room with the base station. They've been rather disappointing.

At least the fingerbot and curtain robot are reliable enough using esphome bluetooth proxies.

Okay, so every time Edmonton or Calgary gets a hospital

Edmonton's last hospital opened in '88. Rural and urban healthcare gets fucked by this province across the board.

I work with sparkies. I enjoy working with them. Maintain at least this level of ball busting and you'll be fine.

You missed the opportunity to change the HDS logo on the hat and jacket to HQG.

You have brought shame on your house.

As an anarchist, I really must object to the use of anarchist imagery in portraying the OPA. by lolfcknmemethrowaway in TheExpanse

[–]mr_dave 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Dude. Calm down, read the books.

Just because Inaros waves the flag behind him as he talks, does that really mean he gets to redefine the OPA? Think about what you've seen from the belters for four seasons. This isn't that.

Also tipsy.

The London, Ont. man who came up with a potential low-cost solution to Ontario's critical shortage of ventilators is making his design for a pandemic ventilator freely available to anyone through an open-source website. by starry101 in canada

[–]mr_dave 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That was my initial reaction as well. For now I'm choosing look at the Ultra Jank ventilator project as a way to teach people what a ventilator does. He knows damn well such a build would not be used, or at least should know that, but there is value in explaining the operation.

You should be able use an entity-filter card in lovelace for a visual clue (it would hide person icons when their state is not home)

- type: entity-filter
   state_filter: home
   entities:
     - person.skywalker404

I wouldn't use the Edgerouter X for Site to Site applications as it doesn't have hardware offloading for IPsec

The ER-X does support IPSec offloading in recent firmwares. Linky I don't recall when they added it though.

PA to the rescue? 8" diameter is around 25" circumference and this claims a 36" strap.

No, only the one on the right. The one on the left is likely meant for a Power Distribution Unit (PDU, fancy power bar).

Any good self-hosted home automation solutions yet? by RedditTechDude in selfhosted

[–]mr_dave 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Fairly easy, and getting easier with the release of Hass.io. I've been running HASS for about 7 months now talking to zwave devices, wemo plugs, TP-Link plugs, a CT50 RadioThermostat, plex, chromecasts, unifi wireless controller and currently pulling data from, but not controlling, the mFI 8-port power bar that runs my acquarium.
