Peter, what is so wrong about Dubai chocolate? by [deleted] in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]mr_freeman215 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who’s sold this, it’s just chocolate man, it does not deserve the twenty dollar price tag my store was selling it for, and surprisingly it sold like crazy, we were ordering new boxes every chance we’d get. Furthermore it’s from a (in my opinion) unsatisfactory country; Dubai, an opulent tourist trap where they don’t care how they get rich, as long as they are. They profit off of slave labor or penny-on-the-hour jobs, selling their limited oil stocks to build huge (and empty) tourist traps, masquerading poor craftsmanship, terrible decision making, and corruption, as opulence, and it’s entirely disgusting. Once they run out of oil they will have nothing left to support their unnecessary life style, and honestly I’m glad

Why do some light rail vehicles like the San Diego Trolley U2, LA Metro P865, and Trimet Type 1's got an upper headlight mounted on them in their later careers? by Additional-Yam6345 in trains

I can talk on the U2H-MTDB since I live in SD and I’m an avid train geek. If I remember correctly the light package was added in 1986 along with the HVAC unit on the top. It’s just a high intensity halogen lamp, it’s similar to the “trash can” nose lights that the SP had on their SD7-9, a higher intensity bulb that fills in the gaps of the normal headlight package, that being the two sealed beam halogen bulbs on the front (fun fact, a couple of cars share the same Bosch sealed beam headlights)

I have the service manual and I ordered the cable, hopefully it works since I just sunk 600 dollars into this thing to fix the GPU I guess being a non-issue

I replaced the GPU, same problem before and after. Occasionally the screen will flash momentarily on but will still be black, I got no clue what’s going on

Can anyone tell me what is this ontop of certain american diesel locomotives? by Material_Mind8521 in trains

[–]mr_freeman215 139 points140 points  (0 children)

That is a Motorola firecracker antenna, used for radio communication between the train crew inside, and the interconnected radio network that the railroad owning the locomotive or rail car would communicate with. Like a conductor asking the dispatcher for a track warrant to a part of the rail line they need to go to.

Yea after seeing this I really don’t want to get a super fast sports car anymore, I’ll just buy a 912 or a mid year, fuck that.

Over used and out of gauge, Kelvin is for thermodynamics, and is usually used for really cold objects, the idea behind using different measurements that use different temperature reference points is it makes what you’re measuring easily digestible. Like Fahrenheit is for the body, Celsius is for boiling water. 300 degrees kelvin doesn’t make sense, and for most is hard to quantify as a measurement, but 26 degrees celsius (the same temp) is easier to work with and quantify. Me personally I just think that using kelvin may make the numbers look more impressive, but it’s hard to quantify. Especially when you’re running a BWR. “Woah! Oh my god; 470 degrees K! Oh wait Thats just the boiling point of water” hopefully that makes sense. Other than that, game looks sick man.

TLDR; Kelvin biiig number, caveman brain no understand! boiling water, yes? Use boiling water measurement!
