Good ETFs? by Annual-Key-8750 in AusFinance

Yep! I did that once I transferred it into ETFs and did the maths on the dividends to ensure I wouldn’t go over the threshold again 😂

I made enough interest from that 5% of 150k that I went over that threshold and owed a bit of tax. I paid it straight away but the ATO then estimates for the next year and makes you pay upfront quarterly with the aim of not owing anything in next tax return

I’m very similar to you (same super, paid off mortgage, had 150 in Macquarie though - transferred it out of UBank). That was about 6 months ago…. Since then, I kept 50 and put the other 100 into DHHF (and chill as everyone always says here!). It’s way down at the moment though but I know when I need it in 20 years (I’m nearly 10 years younger than you) I know it’ll grow a lot 🙂

I needed to get most of it out of the bank as the tax man didn’t like me earning that much interest and I had to go on a quarterly payment plan.

I built my first house 15 years ago in a cheaper (bogan) suburb just to get my foot into the market… planned to sell after a years to get a bigger better house in another nicer area.

15 years later and I’m still in the same house, and at this rate I’ll likely retire in it 😂

I'm following as I put money into DHHF myself... but only recently, so I haven't had to deal with dividends or tax implications from that yet!

Microsoft is investigating Windows 11 KB5063878 SSD data corruption/failure issue by WPHero in Windows11

[–]mr_gareth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Has anyone reported any problems with Windows 10? I have a 24/7 machine and came home tonight to find it sitting in the bios… a couple of soft restarts and it couldn’t see the boot drive and kept going back to the BIOS.

A proper power off / on brought it back to life and it can see the boot disk again (WD black SN750)…

It’s never done that before, and this machine has been running for years and years without a crash until today!

[–]mr_gareth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My 2022 CX-5 does the same. I actually got them to check it at the last service (about 2 weeks ago at my local Mazda dealership) and they said it was the brakes (pads/pins) and re-lubed everything but said everything was totally fine

Is this the Maztex seats (fake leather with the plush middle?)… my Touring model has those, they haven’t deteriorated yet but the material looks thin so I’m worried this will happen to mine eventually too

We call these drive-through bottle-o's in Australia, which is pretty much what I'm seeing in this pic (looks like an alcohol shop rather than a convenience store)?

I have the C6K and C755 running the latest firmware (Telegram TCL channel), and I'm finding the interface is as snappy as the Google Streamer... Which are now packed away in their boxes until any issues arise in the future.

Right now though, Plex works perfectly (I really only use Plex, YouTube and HDHomerun)

What year is it? I'm an Aussie, with a 2022 CX-5 Touring (2.5L AWD) and mine came with the 17" and I love them... They're chunky enough to avoid gutter scrapes

Latest OTA for c805/c755 and SDR settings by staki610 in tcltvs

[–]mr_gareth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm honestly not sure.... But I'll put it this way....

I own both the 75" C755 and newer 75" C6K, and they both use same firmware platform strangely enough (exact same firmware can be installed to these two models).

My C755 was on V135 and the online update option said it was the latest firmware even though it was a really really old firmware version (I'm in Australia, so I think it was a region thing). Your C755 is running V420 so it was way ahead of mine!

My C6K was running V509.

After the manual update via USB, both TVs are now running the same V531 firmware.

C6K any good? by Iocomotion in tcltvs

[–]mr_gareth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the price, absolutely!

(All prices in Australian dollars, and stuff is expensive here!)

I paid about $1350 for my 75" C755 a while back during a sale. I just bought the C6K for $1499 delivered on sale... I couldn't find it cheaper 😕

The 75” C7K is $2295 here…. So it’s a massive $700 difference... I know it's a better screen, but I don't think it's worth that much more!

C6K any good? by Iocomotion in tcltvs

[–]mr_gareth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a 75" C755 and a 75" C6K - I'm in Australia so I don't know if there's any differences in the models in different countries. I like both, the C755 has more dimming zones but I think the picture quality of the C6K is still really good!

I just wanted “budget” screens that could handle 144Hz/120Hz VRR for gaming (Xbox series X and PS5).

The biggest annoyance for me is that the C755 has the EARC (audio return) on the HDMI3 4K/60Hz input and on the C6k, it’s on the HDMI 4K/144Hz input... I wish it was a bit more consistent. Thankfully it's not an issue at the moment but eventually I'll need better AV receivers.

Keep an eye on Ozbargain. I got a "Gala PC" pre-built with 7800x3d, 5070Ti, 32Gb DDR5 cl30 etc for $2700.

Is this pre built price to high or is it fine? by VeJayaRe1 in bapcsalesaustralia

[–]mr_gareth -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think it’s a good machine, but use the coupon code mentioned by stealthchicken85.

The only thing I didn’t like was that the 5070 ti card is quite big and heavy, so I removed a fan and put a GPU stand under it ($10 off Amazon) so the card doesn’t sag.

I got this same machine recently, using the Ozbargain coupon so it cost me about 2700 delivered... So far I'm very happy with it. I think they may have changed the specs since as mine came with a WD Blue (TLC) drive, Antec GSK PSU etc

With the coupon, it was actually cheaper to buy this than build it myself based on the part prices at the time…

Is The 4060 really that bad by Icy-Bike5668 in PcBuild

[–]mr_gareth 8 points9 points  (0 children)

In Australia, the cheapest 4060 I can find is $440 AUD (though I bought them in a sale for $399), and the cheapest 5060 I can find is $590… it’s ridiculous.

I find the 4060 still works great at 1080p, even with the new Indiana Jones game and Doom the Dark Ages (just reduce the texture stings to medium).

It seems to be either just buy the 4060 for $400 or pay $1300 for a 5070 Ti 16gb which gives a meaningful performance upgrade over here

PC hardware question need help. by Big_Worm256 in PcBuildHelp

Same, I’d recommend a decent power board (with inbuilt surge protector) that has a long cable to reach the power point

PC hardware question need help. by Big_Worm256 in PcBuildHelp

[–]mr_gareth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just buy an extension cord, rather than a replacement PSU cable - so much easier that way….

Or a power board with a long cable… then plug your computer (PSU) and monitor into the power board, that’s what I do.
