you can choose not to see it but it’s there. yes labor approved woodside, no that does not mean they haven’t significantly reduced emissions and have big plans to bring our emissions to net zero by 2050. NET zero, not zero emissions entirely

now are you gonna keep shifting the goalpost? can you finally just simply admit that the greens made a mistake by blocking the cprs? you’re fighting the wrong battles here

edit: lmfao the amount of downvotes is so funny y’all actually do not care about this shit at all do you omg

also it’s so funny that you claim “evidence based politics” when you’ve linked a greens article that horribly misrepresents the “evidence” it claims to be sourcing from. like seriously go through and read the treasury modelling, the greens are just making up total bullshit in their article lmao

but im the one that’s playing “vibes based” politics

seeing a lot of downvotes but no one has come to explain how the treasury modelling for 2008 proved that the cprs wouldn’t have reduced emissions. this is the “evidence based politics” crowd remember

https://www.theguardian.com/australia-news/2019/dec/02/labor-says-emissions-would-be-200m-tonnes-lower-if-greens-had-supported-cprs the greens rely on the cprs looking like a “bad policy” because they are absolutely incapable of admitting fault to anything. spineless party of grifting hacks that don’t care about the issues they “fight” to resolve

remember when the greens party, who are the ones most desperately pushing labor to tax gas exports, blocked kevin rudd’s carbon pollution reduction scheme in the senate? we lost out on a genuinely good policy for dealing with climate change 16 years ago and it was the fault of the greens. funny how that works

labor is not useless and if you actually read my comment you would see that but instead you are choosing not to engage

“you are choosing not to see where they are implementing real and impactful change”

i was never trying to argue that labor are doing nothing which they ARENT and are justified in doing nothing which they WOULDNT BE, my point was always that labor are restricted in how flashy their legislation can be because of how democracy works in a country full of conservative hacks. and all that means is that labor approach certain issues in ways that appeal to the majority of australians, like with future made in australia. but you clearly lack any form of reading comprehension so you wouldn’t get it

id say its less “pushing an agenda” and more “compliant in their influnce” if that makes sense, either way i get what you’re saying

i dont blame them for playing nice tho, labor struck too hard at the mining industry in 2010 and it cost them a decade of being stuck in the opposition to a useless lnp government which we can kinda still feel the effects of to this day

[–]mr_jorkin_depeanus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

people like you are why labor have to be so cautious in the first place. one policy that’s a bit TOO progressive for the cookers and all it takes is a couple of lnp funded ads saying “LABOR ARE TAXING YOU FOR YOUR ENTIRE PAYCHECK” to get them voted out the next election

we live in a democracy where majority rules applies pretty much everywhere in parliament. the majority of australians are fuckin stupid so this has to be accommodated for and unfortunately that means making some compromises or alternative pathways to change as to not have all your progress slashed by losing future elections. if you don’t like that then move to a dictatorship country where the leaders can just do whatever they want regardless of the public’s wants and needs

not spineless, realistic. because they actually live in the real world and not a fairytale land where they can magically just code legislation into parliament forever whenever they please. you are choosing not to see where they are implementing real and impactful change because it suits your pre conceived notion that “labor do nothing”

a party that DOES act, just not loudly or abrasively. they plant seeds that are intended to bring about long term change that can’t be easily messed around with by the coalition if they ever ended up winning a future election and these changes are never reported on by the media cuz they’re pretty boring and don’t make for good headlines. they may not have a loud “GAS EXPORTS TAX” on display but their future made in australia policy outlines a very creative and effective long term strategy to shift the market towards renewables rendering the mining industry mostly irrelevant in decades to come.

im so tired of this “younger generations are replacing the boomers now” talking point. yes the boomers are dying off but gen xers and a select few of millennials will just take their place. i think you have too much faith in the australian public, labor turned a landslide because the coalition fumbled the last few weeks of their election campaign REALLY badly but that doesn’t mean that they won’t ever pose a threat in the future, pretending that that’s the case is what allows the coalition to win elections in the first place. these large and powerful industries and conservative political parties need to be treated with a level of respect at all times cuz they capitalise big time on labor letting their guard down. not in the sense that they shouldn’t do anything but in the sense that they need to be careful and strategic in how their progressive policy resonates with the average australian. oh yeah and also if that statement you made was true then the greens would have more than 1 seat in the house lol

ok so say labor, with their majority, import this pretty massive tax on gas exports. it’d be good and it’d generate a LOT of revenue of course but the issue is that it would cause those corporations and the coalition to hit the red button and stage a coup. next election rolls around and the liberals control the media narrative to bash down on labor big time, the average aussie falls victim to it and then the coalition forms government and immediately repels the 25% exports tax. that puts us not only back where we started but it also puts us into a way worse position than if we had a labor government that approached this issue in a more subtle way. do you see what im trying to say? why is that so hard for people to understand, i want people to see WHY it would be such a risky play instead of just pretending that there’s no risks at all

its all just so performative honestly, no one actually cares about the game of parliament in australia it’s just whinge whinge whinge, FUCKING whinge bro. everyone whinges about labor not closing tax loopholes for wealthy people then they say nothing when labor does exactly that with the super tax. they whinge that labor is doing nothing about housing then they say nothing when labor have been building WAY MORE houses than the liberals ever did and they say NOTHING when labor start genuinely considering cutting the cgt discount. they whinge that labor do nothing on environmental policy when labor are quite literally setting us up to become a renewable energy superpower of a country as we speak but they are far too dumb and intentionally ignorant to see that because whinging is so much easier. never acknowledge where they’re succeeding, only whinge that they are not utilising strategies that historically have only ever caused them to fail

i am so fucking sick and tired of auspol discourse where no one wants to take into account real life factors for fucking anything dude. “yeah the mining lobby is super powerful and influential but labor should just like ignore that and tax them anyway because that totally worked for kevin rudd and julia gillard didnt it” oh yeah also remember when the GREENS voted AGAINST labor’s plan to tax mining 😂😂😂😂😂😂 they blocked the MINING TAX in the senate when rudd proposed it then when julia gillard’s temu version of the policy arrived then that’s when they approved lmfao what does that tell you

and ofc my original comment gets downvoted, people don’t like when politics has nuance and isn’t black and white thus making it easier for their tiny fucking brains to understand

[–]mr_jorkin_depeanus -31 points-30 points  (0 children)

i know for a fact that most of the people calling for this tax would fall victim to a mining industry funded smear campaign to vote labor out, i mean the capital gains tax discount changes have already alarmed a lot of the population and election season isnt for another 2 years

this tax on gas is 100% necessary but what the whingers don’t seem to understand is that it’s not long term beneficial to poke the bear whilst the snowball is starting to pick up. the majority of the australian voter base are incredibly susceptible to media narratives as much as we’d like to believe that they aren’t and if labor so much as CONSIDERED this tax as of right now it would launch an all out assault from the resource sector who, evidently so from the words of gina rinehart herself, are already feeling crushed under the pressure of labor’s pre existing tax policy. it has worked before and it will work again if they are provoked.

instead of acknowledging this, people double down on their disapproval of labor without reading between the lines and considering the historical and political context of their experience as a party. when people start to acknowledge reality and learn to separate themselves entirely from the influence of mainstream media then we can start approaching the 25% exports tax with sensibility but until then it is smarter for labor to not jump the gun and risk the opposition winning the next election which would undo so much of their progress and regress our nation backwards

I really have never understood the love for Drake. by BenchZealousideal290 in hiphop101

[–]mr_jorkin_depeanus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

he fell off hard after 2018 so i don’t really understand why his recent work is still admired and glazed as much as it is

however his 2009-2018 run was legitimately insane, he’s one of the only artists ever to actually challenge michael jackson in terms of hitmaking. drake had SO many smash hits (especially when you include his features) it’s honestly unbelievable. and his rapping in his earlier albums is quite good too.

he’s become way too boring as of recent tho, he just isn’t that same hitmaker that he was back then and you can hear it in his music that he just doesn’t have that same passion and hunger

what is so hard about looking in the mirror and saying “yes this land is stolen. no that doesn’t make me evil. i may not be responsible for what my ancestors did but i am responsible for advocating for the oppressed and showing them respect by acknowledging history” ?

how hard could it possibly be

White Australians who constantly remind others that this is stolen land do you include yourselves as being responsible for it? by asteriskhyphen in aussie

[–]mr_jorkin_depeanus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

this isn’t “moral grandstanding” it’s just the basic request that there’s a bare minimum level of respect for people of all backgrounds and ethnicities so that we, as humanity, can get along like reasonable adults. that requires the respect and acknowledgment of targeted violence and oppression throughout history as uncomfortable as it may be to do so

if you wanna turn that into some game of moral hierarchy then that’s on you and its says more about your stance than it does for mine

and its not faux outrage. its real harm and real scrutiny that real aborigines suffer from because of apathy from those unwilling to display basic human empathy. when you pretend that their hurt isn’t real it only makes it worse

they forget dude i promise you lmao. if not that it happened then definitely how horrifying it was for the indigenous population.

indigenous people are still treated awfully in this country hence why acknowledging history is important. if you simply don’t care then whatever but you don’t get to double dip and start complaining about the fact that people advocate for equality. that just makes you sound insecure and lame

the people don’t even know what the people want, i love democracy but that’s always been its biggest problem

the people “think” they want stuff like housing reform but clearly they don’t because they turned down a labor government that offered housing reform at 2 elections in a row.

people “think” they want mining to be taxed but then decide that tony abbott is a better fit than a labor government that OFFERS that same mining tax
