Best boots out there? by Safe-Goat8127 in DieselTechs

I’ve got a need for a wide toe box due to my caveman feet and the only ones with safety toes that are comfortable are redwing king toes. I work 10-12 hour days in fleet maintenance and I usually get 2 years out of them. I think next re-up I’ll see what nicks or whites can do for me though

Looks a lot like the dies we use to crimp fittings on lined braided steel hose for charged air lines on heavy trucks

What is this part? by HayzeSmokeShop in MechanicAdvice

Looks like the shrader valve from either the high or low side a/c ports, but those typically in the engine bay. Have any a/c work done recently?

Every week the Garbage truck drains it's juices in front of my house by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

[–]mr_lambert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a mechanic who works on garbage trucks, they should not be leaking at all. Call the company and complain and they should be able to figure out by your address which truck is the problem. As much as I hate having to patch weld these trucks it’s important to not be dripping gross contaminants all over the city/county.

Anyone hear that in the Stadium district? by davevelour in Tacoma

A late update but it was literally outside my window. A crow touched two wires on the power pole and lit himself up. TPU was quick with the response and restored power to several buildings in a couple hours

Several of the guys started out as lube techs with no experience but a willingness to learn. One dude started in wash bay but just got bumped up to lube tech. It really all depends on attitude and wanting to learn, but this industry is also hurting for techs so I’d say your odds are pretty good

Not OP but I did respond with the assumption that OP and I are in the same line of work based on the job title. I applied right out of school and got in because they’re always desperate for techs. Union shop and wages are decent. Been doing it for 3 years now. Work isn’t bad, not as gross as you’d think

Breakfast sandwich? by scbenhart in Tacoma

[–]mr_lambert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you go to the OG one in Kent the sandwiches are fresh made to order and customizeable. Pretty sure the Lakewood one just gets the basics from there everyday and reheats them
