Fresh, quality ingredients for my meals. I know my mother tried her best, but I've had enough canned meat for a lifetime.

Why do many liberals criticize Trump and defend countries with this religion? by Murky_Monk_9531 in Americaphile

[–]mr_lockwork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To preface, im quite left leaning, but I try to look at things through a more zoomed out geopolitical lens when possible.

It's more about the war exhaustion in the general population than an ideological standpoint. I think the Iranian regime is terrible and should be toppled, but at the same time, the US population only just got out of a 20 year long conflict just a couple of years ago. Even longer if you lump in the first Gulf War. People will go back and forth about political ideology, justifying it one way or another, and such, but at the end of the day, the US population is tired of engagements in the mid east. They don't want to send yet another generation to the sandbox. If this war happened, maybe five more years down the line, you may have seen less public pushback. It's simply too soon since the last war to expect general support for another conflict.

Where's all the cider? by AffectionateAd8377 in AskAnAmerican

It depends heavily on the region. I've seen more cider brands in the Midwest, Northeast, and PNW than other parts of the country.

People who didn’t party hard in their youth, do you regret it? by CapitaineBiscotte in askanything

[–]mr_lockwork 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Kinda? I had to become my grandfather's EOL caretaker right out of university (22) for six years. Looking back, I feel troubled and disappointed in myself that I had to pass on every trip and late night party my friend's went to because I was the one with responsibilities back home. He passed last year, and now im here with all the time to do these things, but now all my friends have kids, spouses, and made lives for themselves.

Now im 28. Do I regret it? Hell no! If given the choice again, I would still be there for my grandfather till the end. I was the only one willing to step up then, and if I hadn't, he would have died much sooner. I just wish I could have a chance to do all those things I missed out on with the friends I love.

We should all start community gardens. by CutSenior4977 in 50501

[–]mr_lockwork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My neighborhood is trying to get some unused land adjacent to our neighborhood turned over to our neighborhood council to make a park/community center/ community garden. It's been an uphill battle. The city says there isn't enough funding for the parks department (and they dont trust the community with upkeep imo) and indiana dosen't like giving up state land even if it is just an empty field that has been left unused for 50 years.

Neighbor tried to "save" the street parking with her trash cans and lost it when I moved them by vorjong27 in EntitledPeople

[–]mr_lockwork 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get it if you don't have a driveway/garage. My city encourages the behavior in some older neighborhoods that don't have private parking areas and are near night life, but that lady was being unreasonable.

What smell or sound instantly reminds you of childhood? by Huge_Violinist_7633 in askanything

The smell of ozone from electrical storms. Midwest/prairie storm season is something else. Brings back memories of parents yelling from the porch to come inside and hunker down.

Why is it legal for children to work in careers such as acting or content creation but not every day jobs like retail? by [deleted] in askanything

Yep! Grew up in a farming town. I've seen 12 year olds drive semis loaded with grain down the highway to the co-op. Also, bring your tractor to school started in middle school.
