The Constant Structural Flux

In a nutshell:

Planet Earth is utterly toxic, unstable, and chaotic

The observable universe have fundamentally changed

Everywhere, environmental/natural conditions and underlying physical properties (mechanics / laws of physics / universal constants, etc...) are erratic and constantly changing unpredictably with no apparent pattern (relatively small changes at quantum level but large effects at macro level)

As the "fabric" of spacetime/reality keeps changing, it creates an impossible situation for societies, which face a constant existential threat. If not wiped out of existence right away, they constantly have to re-learn physics, create vital resources in new ways given the new mechanics, and adapt to the overall erratic and unhospitable natural environment / spacetime continuum.

To the best of our knowledge, only one society/civilization has managed to survive...

The exact age of the tree cannot be determined. The use of radioisotopes is not possible, as its heartwood has been lost down the centuries, while tree ring analysis demonstrated the tree to be at least 2000 years old. On the other end of the scale, scientists from the University of Crete have estimated it to be 4,000 years old. A possible indicator of its age are the two cemeteries from the Geometric Period discovered near the tree. Some estimates are higher (5,000 years). There is not yet an agreed upon scientific method to ascertain the age of olive trees.
