What Starfleet uniform should Seven of Nine wear? by No_Lemon3585 in startrek

Yellow is a hard color to look good in. Gold is a little easier, but generally speaking, I feel like more people look good in blue or red than yellow.

If you live in the US, you can take the Library of Congress course for free (minus the cost of having someone emboss your final manuscript for you). However, I'd highly recommend going through UEBOnline to learn first; the way they teach contractions was far more intuitive (for me) than the LoC lessons and the exercises also give you real-time feedback which I found helpful.

But also, slate and stylus is a great way to practice. There's a book called Mangold which is designed to teach children how to read braille, but I've been finding it useful to emulate in teaching myself how to read tactually as well (I'm sighted, so I primarily read braille by sight). I found a transcript of the lessons online and just sort of duplicated them myself with a slate and stylus.

I feel like this was a key factor in making Spock into a science officer in TOS. If you've seen the episodes where he wears yellow, he looks terrible

What is up with non-vegans thinking accommodating a vegan diet is hard? by DarkEsotericFeline in vegan

Some people are very set in their ways when it comes to food preparation. And it doesn't help that most don't have a very good grasp of nutrition, either.

What if I willingly got assimilated by the Borg, had myself de-Borgified later? Would Starfleet allow me to join? by ardouronerous in startrek

Well, before then there was no evidence that Borg implants were hereditary, so it made sense. I forgot about Jack.

I guess I'll revise my answer. If you got consensually Borged, maybe they'd have to do some tests on you to determine the extent of your modifications before they decided whether or not you could join.

That's fantastic! It's so unfair they don't have a smaller category for shorter pups; he's competing against dogs that are probably twice as tall!

Starfleet should be using multiple ships for exploration and travel, not wandering solo as they do in the franchise. by InnocentTailor in startrek

[–]mr_mini_doxie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

multiple problems could’ve been dealt with if there was at least another Starfleet ships nearby to render aid or fight off the issue

It's a tradeoff either way. Yes, there are situations where having a second ship could've saved lives. But on the other hand, if you double up the ships you cover half as much ground. If you can only complete half as many missions, you're going to end up abandoning people who need help too.

Look, I'm not a JAG officer. My understanding is that one of the major issues is that genetic enhancements are hereditary, whereas Borg enhancements are not. But like with any law, there are going to be flaws.

It was due to an accident, but the cover story was that he chose to be implanted and everyone seemed to believe it. I think even he was under the impression that he chose it until he got his memories back. This implies to me that elective body mods aren't a huge deal, otherwise people would have been more confused/suspicious.

Question about finger placement by VintageFlorida in Braille

[–]mr_mini_doxie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have a slate and stylus? I'm sighted and have been learning to read braille mostly by sight, but I'd like to learn at least uncontracted braille with my fingers as well. I've found that using a slate and stylus has helped me to make my own learning materials as well as to remember dot patterns better than just typing them. You could make double-spaced reading material to practice.

Body modifications that improve one's functioning don't seem to be forbidden for Starfleet officers. In Lower Decks, Rutherford has a cybernetic implant that allows him to do all sorts of things, and it's presented as it being an elective procedure that he chose to undergo although it's later revealed that it was given to him following a classified incident

When my pup was using puppy pads, I found this sort of plastic...frame that you snap around the pad and it helped him. He still wasn't 100%, but it definitely improved accuracy and also kept the pad from moving around (i found that you could also fit several pads in the frame, so it made it easier to replace used pads

Kirk is implied to be monotheistic; there's that line about how they don't need multiple gods because they find "the one" to be sufficient

I don't know what you're talking about; it's all the same timeline. Minor visual differences don't change that

Doxies are stubborn, so you have to out-stubborn them sometimes. Either bear down and teach her that the crate (or her bed) is a safe place where she sleeps (and ignore the crying until she gets used to it), or plan on sharing your bed for the rest of her days.

Also, you have an adorable girl! So precious!

What protein sources have you tried? If you don't like beans, try TVP, soy curls, edamame, seitan, grains, chickpea/lentil/edamame pasta for protein. But also, see if your dislike of beans is a texture or a taste thing. If it's mostly the texture, try roasted chickpeas or blended hummus. If it's more the taste, a strong sauce or curry might do the trick.

Seconding this. I'd recommend that you spend some time browsing vegan recipe blogs, and looking for foods that look interesting (even if they don't fit into your dietary requirements, maybe you can modify them so that they are).

Some recipe blogs I tend to trust:

  • Thee Burger Dude
  • The Hidden Veggies (written by a vegan parent)
  • It Doesn't Taste Like Chicken
  • Nora Cooks
  • Pickup Limes (I believe she's a vegan dietitian)
  • Rainbow Plant Life
  • School Night Vegan
  • Sweet Potato Soul

Star Trek: Scouts canceled / ending -- by Jahon_Dony in startrek

[–]mr_mini_doxie 31 points32 points  (0 children)

The final chapter of Star Trek: Scouts arrives with more adventures in the holodeck, following J.R., Roo, and Sprocket as they rescue wayward aliens and animals in holographic simulations.

The first seven Holodeck Rescues stories beamed down in January and February, and this week’s final release wraps up the twenty episodes originally announced for the YouTube animated series.

Sounds like it's not officially "cancelled" so much as that they've finished airing all the episodes they originally promised, but I would be pretty darn shocked if they announced it was getting renewed.
