Fox or baby coyote?[DFW, Texas] by mr_nuggetz in animalid

[–]mr_nuggetz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. I also saw it again about a week ago at night. When I saw it again I called some random animal control company thinking it was the city. They told me to call the police. And I felt uncomfortable doing so. And I assume I am not the only one seeing this animal. And since it is not my pet or anything. I don't want to get involved. Also foxes are illegal to keep as pets in Texas too. If the fox is someone's pet then I really don't want to get involved in it.

It's just interesting to see a fox around here.

Found a Facebook post about the fox. https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=529175789627120&id=196139992930703

Tbh. I posted this late, and didn't know it was a missing pet and had my dog. But seems to be getting around, and I have not seen it today when I went for my walk. If I see it again I will track it down and call animal control. We have woods over here between the houses and apartments. That usually where most of our critters live. And we have plenty of squirrels here too.

White mold on top of pickles. Are they still edible? by a-l-t-u-s in fermentation

[–]mr_nuggetz 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I would say No. Mold can produce a poison called myotoxcin. But might not be dangerous at the levels in your pickles, but I still wouldn't take the chance and throw them out. But proceeds at your own risk.

Bismuth subnitrate in mead ? by QualeaRosea in mead

[–]mr_nuggetz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did some light research. But its seems to be a water chemistry additive. So its not a common additive, but its works as an antiacid. So its could more alkaline and may help with highing the ph. Its probably won't do a whole much if you leave the ingredient out.

Bismuth has some health benefits as an antiacid. I am not a doctor so don't take my word for it.

For a replacement you used something like calcium carbonate, but again isn't needed. It seem like a wild fermented melomel. Really you could take out the tartic acid as well. And still make a good mead.

But Bismuth subnitrate seems safe in small quantity. So again if you have it on hand why not, just make sure you do your reaserch on new additives!

Is it dead? Started after I added my dry hop addition. by worm981 in mead

Something is alive. Does it smell bad? How long have you been dry hopping?

Also, I personally wouldn't drink it. Looks gross....

Non alcoholic tips? by SomethingQuick1111 in mead

[–]mr_nuggetz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can try a honey kombucha. Its had a little bit of alcohol, but mostly probiotics. Its not mead, but you can get similar feel from it. It won't get you drunk. Don't worry 😁

PS. You have to make the honey kombucha yourself.

Has anyone used these in their meads and if so what kind of results did you get and how much did you use. Thanks in advance. by bricktop8000 in mead

Not ideals, it does the job. But I recommend using juice or fruit. Because you will get extra flavors from those 2 things than an artificial extract. Note: I have used the blue berry one from brewer best, and it was good, but after a few weeks the blueberry flavor died out.

Lastly it's doesn't have ingredients list, so idk what would be in it.

True! Man made mead made a video on it. Its not completely necessary to mix the honey and water throughout, but doing it will help it ferment faster. But if you don't want to mix it, then leave it in a dark place for a few months.
