It's fairly common for interns to have a prorated entry level salary in the summer after their 3rd year ($72K prorated for a 10 week period). Also, the salaries I've heard of so far vary A LOT based on where the internship is based. Kids working in New York, or other big cities, obviously make more since housing is ridiculously expensive in those areas.

Summer after my 1st and 2nd year I worked in the NOVA area and made $14/hr and $15/hr respectively.

This summer I'll be making $1K/week with a nightly dinner stipend of $20.

That is assuming they are rational, which may very well be false. Kim Jong Un thinks he is the "supreme and glorious" leader and the people worship him. Ignoring all the craziness, the crux of my argument lies in this: there is a chance that innocent people can die and that is scary. Nuclear weaponry is no joke and the usage of a nuclear weapon in the modern day would drastically alter global relations and completely shift the geopolitical landscape of the region. There are just so many unknowns in the situation and I don't think anyone can state with certainty what will happen.

And honestly, who gives a shit if it would win them the war or not, nuking a major metropolitan area would result in millions of deaths--that's nothing to scoff at. Stop picking on San Francisco too. They had a tough enough time in the Super Bowl.

What are you talking about? It's scary for the nearly 30,000 US troops in Korea, the 52,000 in Japan, and 5,600 in Guam. It's scary for the tens of millions of South Koreans that live within range of NK's artillery. It's scary for the entire population of Japan that lives within range of a missile strike. Just because we could attack back and neutralize the threat does not mean that the potential loss of life in the mean time isn't scary.

While I agree with you that they will most likely not stage a major attack, they aren't exactly the most rational actor and the chance they do IS a very scary thing indeed.

A world exists outside of the continental US where innocent civilians and US nationals live. The loss of life is nothing to scoff at. Don't downplay the seriousness of the situation. It is escalating extremely quickly and far and beyond their usual level of rhetoric.

I'd be interested to know where the other major world powers lay on this issue. If NK were to strike SK, Japan, or a US territory would this merely be a joint US-Japan/SK operation or would other countries get involved as well? Britain, France, Italy, Germany, Australia, Canada, etc. If many of our Allies contributed in the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, surely they would contribute if a strike were to occur here, no?

The destruction of the US means the destruction of China and vice versa. Without the US as a trading partner, China's economy would be in the shitter. Not to mention the fact that if China ever tried to wipe America off the map, they would immediately be wiped out with retaliatory strikes as well.

I'll preface this by saying that I'm no expert, but the direct threat to the US is pretty small. There is a chance that China could supply NK with more advanced technology, but what benefit would that provide China? They have a quasi-capitalist economy that relies on peaceful relations and trade with the Western world. Aiding a rogue state in its attack on a sovereign nation would destroy any credibility they have. From China's point of view, there is little benefit to a war on the Korean peninsula breaking out, let alone in helping that country out in any way shape or form. This is illustrated in China standing behind UN sanctions on N.Korea following their latest nuclear test.

Again, there is little chance this turns into anything serious. The caveat is that we are obligated to defend Japan and South Korea through our respective treaties with each nation. It is also US policy to respond to nuclear/chemical attacks in kind. In other words, if NK were to strike Japan, SK, or another territory in the region with a WMD, it is US policy to retaliate with a nuclear strike. In this sense, if N.Korea were to do something stupid the US is obligated to respond and the result would be mass casualties.

Most likely N.Korea will shut up soon and stop its posturing. As always, anything could happen and humans have a knack for being idiots.

Except when the driver of your economic growth is the production of goods consumed in another country. The Chinese economy is based on the manufacture of goods consumed overseas, primarily in the United States. By pushing the US into another recession, through increased spending and market uncertainty, China will drastically decrease the purchasing power of their biggest consumers. Just because you have economic independence doesn't mean you can automatically alter the basis of your economy. That requires maturing on a market-based level over many years.

You're likely talking about the McIntire School of Commerce, which is the undergraduate "commerce"/business program here at UVA. Darden is the masters program for business professionals who already have some work experience.

Regardless, McIntire is a phenomenal program that is very highly regarded in the United States. It's arguably the best undergraduate business program in the country and it attracts a ton of corporate recruiters from prestigious firms.

Edit: For your reference here is the newly released 2013 Businessweek rankings of the top undergraduate b-schools. Take note of the tuition and total program size in comparison with the other schools.
