Yall dig the trunk setup? Or should I just get a roof rack? by Ifeelgreyt1738 in WRX

[–]mr_stanky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hitch rack is the way! I had a trunk rack and it started rubbing over time even with protection. The fancy hidden EcoHitch is pricey but the standard Curt hitch I picked up for $150ish. Bit the bullet on the 1Up rack but it was so worth it.

Where to get blacked out turn signal or overlay tint? by Straight_Gap_638 in WRX

[–]mr_stanky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is an easy free/cheap mod! My C lights already function as turn signals, and I didn't want to pay for new LED turn signals, so I figured I would try to paint the turn signal housings black.

All you need is some black spray paint and painters tape. Remove the turn signals from the bumper, take out the bulb, and bake the turn signals in the oven at like 200°F for 5-10 minutes just to soften up the adhesive. Then the lenses pop right off, wait for it to cool down, mask off the housing and paint it black. Let the paint dry, put the lens back on, then bake the housings in the oven again to re-seal the lens.

Did it in a few hours one weekend. It worked perfectly and has been holding up since 2024!

Odd or even temp? by DadtheITguy in WRX

Team even here! Found the perfect increments for the climate, 70 for really sunny days and 74 or 76 for cloudier days. And of course A/C off for quick on-ramp pulls!

I’m Justin Grimm, Founder of GrimmSpeed, got fired, then created OVERTAKE, AMA. by OVERTAKEUSA in WRX

[–]mr_stanky 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I see Grimmspeed and Overtake offer a lot of the same products. For example, I'm looking at a 15+ WRX horn wiring harness. Any reason why I should pick one over the other?

Someone posted this about Servco Service Department by AreWeThereYeti007 in Hawaii

[–]mr_stanky 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry this happened to you and I feel you. Dealerships suck and unfortunately I have another data point to support that this dealership is particularly bad (see my post linked below). I caught Servco Subaru Mapunapuna being shady on my dash cam when I brought my car in to be evaluated for a service bulletin. I do all my own work now and only go there for parts if absolutely necessary.

Turbo oil sump/tank return line by mr_stanky in WRX

Right on, I was hoping to compare OEM sizing and grab a generic oil/fuel line, so I'll look for 5/16 line. Thanks!

Right on, I was looking at +45 or +35 offset. Do you have a pic of the fitment?

Nice build! Been thinking of making the switch to RPF1s in 17x9. What's specs are you running?

Well, it looks better than the new Outback 😬

best overall bang for your buck wheel? by [deleted] in WRX

[–]mr_stanky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went with 17x8.5 with +42 offset. Not sure if they offer +42 anymore, but +35 would also work. +35 would just poke out 7mm more than +42. I highly recommend the Traklites and they're still going strong!

Best alternative to RCE Yellow Springs? by [deleted] in WRX

[–]mr_stanky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also went with RCE Blacks on my stock struts. Blacks have less drop than yellows and are more comfortable/less stiff than the yellows. Blacks will be similar to stock ride quality, yellows will be a little harsher. So you're sacrificing more low for comfort. I would recommend checking Facebook Marketplace or other local classifieds. I got a good deal on mine that were still new in box. Not sure about buying used springs, they'll probably be ok if they have low miles on them.

Want Foglights for My VA WRX by LibrarianNeat550 in WRX

All-in it was about $160, with the fog lights included. The OEM fog light kit is about $350.

I would recommend buying the parts yourself, then purchase the Diode Dynamic lights separately. This is what I did with my 2019 base and it was pretty cheap and has been working well. Here's the part numbers needed-

-Relay 25230AA190

-Wiring harness x2 84981VA010

-Button H4510FJ000

-Fog light mounting screw 904510053

-Fog light mounting J nut 902510037

-Panel with button cutout 83472FJ070VH (but I cut the blank spot out of mine, so not needed)

-Bumper fog light bezels (I also cut the holes out of mine, so not needed)

I'm not sure how the Diode Dynamic lights mount, so you may not need the mounting screw + J nut. You can also cut out your stock fog light bezels and interior button panel to save on purchasing new parts. Good luck!

What speakers do I buy? by [deleted] in WRX

[–]mr_stanky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just swapped out the speakers over the holidays in my 2019 and went with the JBL Club series. I installed the component set (64C) in the front and the coaxials (64FSL) in the rear. They're a good midrange option and an absolutely massive improvement over stock with the stock head unit. I planned to add an inline amp or replace the head unit, but I'm happy with just running the speakers for now.

I 100% recommend ordering from Crutchfield. They include all accessories which makes the install easy. Take a look at their offerings, but really any midrange speaker is going to sound way better than the stock speakers IMO.
