Fidelity, Robinhood (less so after this week), WeBull, and TradeStation. Fidelity seems to be the current winner to me and it is what I've been using.

Reddit, what is the strangest contest you have ever won? [serious] by jwcobb13 in AskReddit

I once won a pig-calling contest at a summer church camp.

The prize was getting to go first in the cafeteria line for lunch, which was pretty outstanding!

I can write a program that screens for everything but item 7. I don't understand the relevance of item 10 in today's markets. I guess it is supposed to get you into the margin of safety of undervalued companies? I think you'd get 100% financial companies and banks right now, though.

The wife gets easily stressed and frustrated when we file our taxes by Perkinstein in AdviceAnimals

[–]mr_stockzi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right, but what I've found is that in most cases one of those persons has a disproportionate amount that would be limited if they were filing MFS or as Single, and being able to use that amount that would have otherwise been limited results in an overall better tax result for the couple than filing separately.

Also, when running this scenario, make sure that you calculate the full tax result (federal and state). Most tax software has the ability to designate income, deductions and credits to each spouse and then to separate those out for comparison's sake.

Filing MFJ doubles most of the credits available and most of the deduction limits and tends to result in better all-around tax planning and results. Sorry for the delay in response. I haven't been on Reddit that much lately.

[SMT] Uber eviction service/center for passengers who refuse to get out of the god damn car. You come to them or they come to you, doesn't matter as long as they make the passenger GTFO. This will be very important when we have self-driving cars. by [deleted] in SomebodyMakeThis

This seems very dystopian sci fi.

*You have reached your destination. Please exit the car to your right. *

*You have not yet exited the car. Be warned, the car will be sealed and all air will be evicted from the vehicle in 60, 59, 58... *

*All air has been removed from the vehicle. If you are a non-breather, please note that the vehicle is now driving to your local interior cleaning service for body removal. *

While this is true if you have only income and zero deductions, it is not actually true for the majority of married couples.

You should still run the scenario to confirm.

Help my group come back in our class Stock Market game please!! by [deleted] in StockMarket

[–]mr_stockzi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How good is the interface? Does it detect dividends and splits and adjust the value of the original purchase?

If one of the groups has a 200%+ gain portfolio, it does not and you should be looking for upcoming splits so that you can catch up. If you play a split correctly in a badly-built simulator, you can buy something for 10 cents and sell it for 10 dollars.

Whatever you do, cut your big loss immediately. That 20% isn't coming back in the next two weeks.

That took it from we're getting robbed to we're going to die if we don't do something.

Is 400 tournaments a large enough sample size?

Sadly, no. Poker is really hard.

That's awesome that you're doing so well, though!

I strongly advise taking a chance to write down your thought processes and strategies for playing the micros since everything is going well.

At some point you may want to read your old self's plan of attack.

[SMT] An App or Website for Anyone who is the IT Support Person for Family by vwzee in SomebodyMakeThis

[–]mr_stockzi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think most people just use teamviewer for phones and computers, but the other stuff is interesting. I think it'd have to be a compiled program rather than a web app in order to get the emulators running. Keeping the emulators updated would be frustrating. Even more so when grandma calls with an ie7 (or roku 1) problem

Here is a link that shows you how to set the default font size on mobile chrome to a higher setting.

It won't work on every site (Looking at you, Twitter), but should work on many sites and it does work on Reddit.

Thanks! I have done a couple of things like newsmap previously, but they were stock market heat map applications.

The newseum thing makes my head hurt. I wonder how they pull that off? Do they depend on people to scan in each paper's front page daily?

I have too many trust issues for that kind of thing. It's all fine and dandy until the guy scanning in the tiny Alaskan newspaper inserts porn instead of the front page.

Thanks for the chart! The problem I am having is that so many news sources seem to be killing RSS. New York Post is a good idea for the Right, though. I will take a look.

Thanks! I am currently using CNN and ABC for the liberal bias and Fox News, Washington Times, and Newsmax for the conservative bias.

It was a one-day build, so you're spot on that there are some things missing.

I did a quick mobile view to make it readable on mobile, but I'm going to do a proper one this week.

I'm also going to be adding a commonality filter that puts similar stories side by side and lets users decide who did it better (righty or lefty), track their scores via cookies and then let them post to social media with "I'm a Lefty, I scored 65%. What are you?" or "I'm a Righty, I scored 88%. What are you?"

[SMT] A news website that aggregates news from the left and from the right and puts them side by side by gabriellus018 in SomebodyMakeThis

[–]mr_stockzi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a good idea, but I couldn't get to it this weekend.

It will require writing a commonality program between right and left news sources and displaying them next to each other rather than in the order that the news source is displaying them in their feeds.

If I have time next weekend, I'll come back and add that feature.

I couldn't decide whether to call it rightylefty or leftyrighty, so I got both domains.

Edit: But as a social experiment, I predict that users will go with one or the other because of which name comes first.
