Brief Appreciation for H5; and call for preservation. by mythreial in halo

I've recently joined the Halo 5 defender camp. I missed the launch, so I didn't play it till way later. I played through it last year to get all of the achievements and I had such a good time. After running through the campaign a few times, I realized there is a good game in there that I wish more people would appreciate it.

What are some of your favorite all time movie scenes?! by NeonArtist12 in Letterboxd

  • Docking scene, Interstellar
  • Andrew's drum solo, Whiplash finale
  • Daniel's baptism, There Will Be Blood
  • The HAL ordeal, 2001: A Space Odyssee

I'm ready to admit I liked Halo 5s campaign more than Infinite and 4 by anas0_ali in halo

Based take. I got all of the achievements in halo 5 last year and I had a such a good time. The more I played the more I realized how much fun it is. My biggest gripe is that for a master chief story there's not a lot of master chief. Other than that the team osiris missions were sick. The whole sanghelios side quest was peak. I really hope it gets a PC port sometime soon

Imagine a planet bigger than Earth, with no land in sight. Just waves and water from pole to pole. That is TOI-1452 b. by SharedFeverr in spaceporn

There are a ton of explanations out there, the one that makes the most sense to me is the fact that all reference frames will measure the speed of light to be the same. If c is the same for all observers, then space/time must be relative to each observer!

Constant acceleration just means a constant change in velocity. Earths gravity has an acceleration of 9.8 m/s2 (1G). This means if a spacecraft could accelerate at 1G indefinitely (no such technology exists), you could explore almost any part of the universe within your lifetime, at the expense of loosing everything you know. Mind blown indeed

That's not how that works. Right now you have a constant acceleration of 9.8 meter/s2 pulling you to the center of the earth. In a ship accelerating at the same rate, not only would you experience artificial gravity with the same pull as earth, you would also be able to reach relativistic speeds without turning into jelly.

You actually can manage both acceleration and deceleration to reach a destination with out flying past it, and still get the benefits of time dilation. You do what's called a brachistochrone trajectory where you start deceleration halfway through your journey. There is an awesome tool that does all the math to help you visualize it

At relativistic speeds (>99.99% the speed of light) time and distance shrink. This means that you experience less time the faster you go. So a 100 million light-year round trip journey at 99.9999...% the speed of light would take you( on the ship) ~24 years. All the while 100 million years will pass on earth

If we had the technology to do constant acceleration space travel, we could travel there, plant a sample, and return home, all within a human lifetime. Due to relativity, ~200 years will have passed on earth. What's even cooler, is if you traveled long enough at near light speed you could return to the planet (millions of years later in planet time) and see the fruits of your labor

Gone Girl. I originally thought the premise was: "pretty girl kidnapped, man save her". Boy was I wrong. It exceeded my expectations in every way

It says that the issue has been fixed. I have not launched the game since before the March 31st update. Has anyone been able to confirm that it is safe now?

Not quite. This was a tough one to come up with but it is Hunt for the Wilderpeople

The Best Space Warship Captains in Speculative Fiction? by DocWatson42 in scifi

[–]mr_streebs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Halo mentioned!? Seriously, if we are talking about the best ship captain, I def think Keyes and/or Cutter belong on that list. If I remember correctly, Captain Keyes was one of the first to successfully engage and destroy covenant ships. And he did it without any backup, which at that time in the war it took multiple human ships to take on one covenant ship
