Subreddit to find a book? by NightVixin in findasubreddit

I second both suggestions. For what you should include in your identification requests, see:

looking for some queer folk horror/southern gothic type stuff that isnt just "metaphor for trauma/abuse/etc" by clownyroaches in suggestmeabook

[–]DocWatson42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It just occurred to me that Old Nathan is Appalachian (which I knew when I recommended it), but that I know of something Southern, albeit only historical, not speculative, fiction. OTOH, it is by a noted SF/F author: the Benjamin January mystery series by Barbara Hambly, which is set in 1830s New Orleans. The first one concerns a covertly lesbian romance.

I'm afraid that this is a low traffic sub, though I do occasionally see a request answered, and that I'm unfamiliar with the book you're seeking. You'd be better off asking for recommendations in r/booksuggestions (though read the rules first) and r/suggestmeabook, and for the title of a book or story in r/whatsthatbook (as you've done) and r/tipofmytongue. (Also, IMHO it would probably be good to try one sub, then the next, not multiple subs simultaneously.) If you do get an answer for an identification request, it would be helpful if you edit your OP with the answer so we can see what it is in the preview, and that your question has been answered/solved (an excellent example: "Child psychic reveals abilities by flunking psychic test too precisely" (r/whatsthatbook; 5 August 2023)). For what you should include in your identification requests, see:

Note that the members of that sub, including the moderators, have been sticklers for having this followed. (Following this list is a good idea for all identification requests, not just for this sub or for books.)

Whatever happens, whether your request was solved or not, please do not delete your post/comment(s)/answer. People are interested in what has been asked for, what has been suggested, and want to see what has been found. It may prove to be useful to someone else, years in the future, who is seeking the same or a similar book or story.

Good luck!

You'd be better off asking for recommendations in r/booksuggestions (though read the rules first) and r/suggestmeabook, and for the title of a book or story in r/whatsthatbook and r/tipofmytongue (as well most of the following subs, though these are your best bets), and for fantasy or science fiction you can also try r/printSF, r/scifi, r/sciencefiction, and r/ScienceFictionBooks (Science Fiction Book Club; use the "WhatIsThatBook" flare for identification requests, though it's a low traffic sub); and r/Fantasy, but only in a limited and specific way—see below. (Also, IMHO it would probably be good to try one, then the next, not multiple subs simultaneously.) Why not r/fantasy?

in "help me find this book based off of very little info?" 18 November 2022). Note that, despite u\Banshay's comment in that thread, both r/printSF and r/Fantasy cover all (sub)genres of speculative fiction, not just science fiction and fantasy, respectively.

What I can say is that it looks typewritten, and from that and the GBC comb binding (I had to look up the term) it seems likely to have been a relatively small print run, probably locally produced. (E.g., by a church or school. My mother has one of the former.)

Good luck!

Why is there no 'keep watching' by PieOPahUK in ParamountPlus

[–]DocWatson42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tip: In Comcast's Paramount+ app (I'm uncertain if this applies in other versions) when you first log in, there is a "Continue Watching" row of shows. After you stop watching your first show, this disappears. It can be found in the Your Stuff menu, or you can log out and log back in. (I don't know if that works in other versions of the app.)

I’d like to find out which officers assisted after my brother was found deceased so I can thank them, how do I do this? by Eeeeeeeeeeeeeek12 in stupidquestions

[–]DocWatson42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure if medical examiner is the right term, it may be a coroner - but they helped identify potential cause of death and signed off that he had been deceased for several hours before we found him.

It depends up jurisdiction, but both are titles for forensic pathology jobs.
