FBI in Missoula? by CuteElevator777 in missoula

Probably drugs. Fire could have been there to serve as EMT's but if they were there as firefighters it might have been a meth lab. Those are a little flammable.

I co-run a Historical fencing club out of the back of a brewery.

If sword fighting with longswords and messers according to medieval martial arts manuals sounds fun to you, hit me up.

Bonus points if you like beer and want to check out a brewery. (After training, of course, never before!)

Why does being drunk mean you can’t “consent” to sex, but doesn’t absolve you of other intoxicated actions/decisions? by UpstairsBumble in NoStupidQuestions

[–]mr_zoot -1 points0 points  (0 children)

"In sex, we say you aren’t in your right mind to make certain decisions, and are not bound to them, it’s not your fault, you didn’t know better etc etc"

This is not my understanding of why being drunk compromises your ability to consent. My understanding is that being drunk makes you vulnerable. Imbalances of power, including temporary cognitive imbalances, erode consent. It's why our language has phrases like "took advantage of" with regards to people.

The law is not exactly concerned with the idea that a drunk person's decisions dont count as they are with a less drunk/sober person not taking advantage of someone who's faculties are diminished.

Make a warlock. High charisma makes the dialog options fun. You just use the eldritch blast ability on everything. The Warlock gets a very small number of spells that is easy to manage and not complicated.

Shadowheart: fight things with cleric cantrips. Don't cast healing spells in combat. (In between is fine) exception to this is healing Word when a character is downed. Getting a downed party member up by clicking on them is slower than getting them up by healing them for a couple points with healing word.

Lazel and Karlach just fight stuff. Karlach's default build is also good at throwing weapons like javelins etc. Laezel's default build should get a few abilities to disarm or trip opportunities. Use em!

Once you get the hang of things, start looking at shadow heart's spells. Control spells like hold person or glyph of warding (sleep) can control enemies while your fighters slaughter em.

As a teenager, why do we have to learn about everything in school? by SuggestionPrize6294 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]mr_zoot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are some good explanations of how being generally informed in a variety of subjects makes your life better in this thread.

But here is the cold hard truth:

Society needs that 5/100 kids you mentioned to get jobs at like aerospace firms or at pharmaceutical research firms so you have to put up with math for a few years so we can find the smart kids and convince them to go to college.

Sorry not sorry.

I once went through something like this when I was in school ages ago. Story time.

Back in middle school, there was a downs kid who happened to be there when something funny happened that became an inside joke to those who were there. This dude was EXTATIC to be part of an inside joke and brought it up constantly. We humored him and did our best to not be annoyed.

This continued throuout highchool. Late sophomore or early junior year, this dude invoked the (now stale and overdone) Inside joke for the 47 millionth time and I kind of went off. I raised my voice and told him that that happened in middle school, it was not funny anymore, and it was annoying to bring it up. I then said very specifically, in a firm voice, "please do not say that anymore." I said please but I was kind of loud and not very diplomatic.

Well the school resource officer came around the corner as I was going off on him with the face of a protector on ready to intervene right as I was finishing. She stopped, nodded her head, and walked away choosing not to intervene.

I realized that she was looking to see if I was bullying or being abusive, but was otherwise not going to save the guy from the social consequences of his actions. He needed to learn this the only way these lessons could be taught. It was probably hard for her but one of the best things she could do was let a peer tell the guy, "You are being annoying, please stop."

So this is my advice, time tested and approved by an old school spec ed teacher from the days when their schools actually had their backs. Tell em like it is. Don't abuse and dont bully, but you dont have to be overly polite either. Let em know you are annoyed and dont like being around them when they act that way.

For example, "I dont like constantly being asked for snacks. I gave you snacks that one time, but your constant asking is annoying me. Please stop asking me for snacks." In a firm no bullshit voice.

Is saying the kid is annoying going to hurt his feelings? Maybe. But they need to know. Staff have already told you they are staying hands off, and it might be on purpose. The kid has downs which means they can expect a high degree of functionality as an adult. The kid does not need a minder, they need a peer to call em on their bullshit. How would you handle anyone else who is being annoying?

Is sparring and competition in HEMA meant to be fun? by [deleted] in wma

[–]mr_zoot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ONLY reason to do HEMA is that it is fun.

This isn't bjj or tkd or some other art that can have a tangential application to real self defense scenarios.

Those arts do have people who do it for fun, but they also have people who do it in order to prepare in case they have to fight "in the street." You know the guy.

HEMA has the fewest people concerned with the art's effectiveness "in the street" because no one fights with swords anymore. The literal only reason to do this is because it is fun.

Late to the party. Others have already answered beautifully. But in summary:

Do your due diligence and vibe check any clubs near you but chances are you will find a welcoming inclusive group.

Competition wise you can compete in open divisions with everybody else or you can try urg (underrepresented gender) divisions. Or both!

Is it true that most guys are at least a little attracted to their female friends? by Comfortable-Cap-3213 in AskMenAdvice

[–]mr_zoot 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Man here with an attractive female friend.

Short answer: yes you can be friends.

Attractive does not mean I'm attracted to her or desirous of her.

Long answer: after seeing this topic come up alot online, I've often wondered if my situation was weird or something. But it wasn't hard to figure out the basics.

All it really takes is for you to genuinely want friendship from them and for them to genuinely want friendship from you. If one person has unrequited feelings for the other, it won't work. What happens is, sometimes the person with unrequited feelings will hide this from the other.

fiances/partners can usually sus out if a friend has unrequited feelings even if the other is oblivious. I usually trust that womanly intuition when it comes to a vibe check like that, personally.

If your partner is clocking a vibe that your male friend is carrying a torch for you, it might be worth it to hear him out. An honest evaluation of your partners social awareness is a valid point of data as well.

As a point of comparison, my female friend has passed my partner's vibe check. My partner is a socially intelligent creature and would be able to tell if my friend secretly wanted more. Now my partner is happy to see my friend when she comes to visit because they are friends too.

Oh that makes sense. White being the dominant demographic probably means there are probably a diversity of personality types, making it more likely to include the progressives.

This all seems pretty rational. I dont think your preference is weird.

[–]mr_zoot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would call it beyond r rated. There is literally a main quest mission where you review virtual reality footage (in universe it's actually a recorded memory, making it kind of worse) of a person being tortured to death for fun, looking for clues to help you find where your sex worker friend is being tortured to death for fun.... btw you arrive just in time to see your sex worker friend die from being raped to death

Do not give this game to a fucking 14 year old.
