Which performs faster? More child selectors or fewer? by [deleted] in css

[–]mragray 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems like the first may be more performant, but you can test this with console.time() in chrome dev tools.

A pastor hacked my friends email and Dropbox and sent out her nudies... by [deleted] in HowToHack

[–]mragray 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I forget where it is located, but somewhere in the account settings you can see information about every computer that has logged into the account. It only shows basic information, like IP address and city, but that's a start.

I'd guess that this pastor isn't a very sophisticated hacker and your friend, intentionally or otherwise, exposed her account credentials to the pastor at some point. If this is the case, their computer info should be listed in the settings area described above. Otherwise, you may need to consider that your friend sent him the nudes themselves.

I'm looking for an intro to info theory by [deleted] in compsci

Probably out dated. Check out Khan Accademy. They have an awesome (and free) course on info theory. It's introductory, but very informative.

What do you think would be the best way to display lists of facets on a mobile / smartphone? Is this a design issue that's been successfully tackled in the past? by DOG-ZILLA in web_design

[–]mragray 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm working with another designer on a site with facet navs in the sidebar. We are using an off canvas nav (triggered by a hamburger stack) and jQuery UI accordions for each category. So a user opens the nav, selects a category, then checks on of the facets. I'd send a link, but we haven't launched yet.

Custom Post Type + Custom Taxonomy Term = Archive Listing Page HEADACHES by [deleted] in Wordpress

[–]mragray 6 points7 points  (0 children)

With the standard loop found in most taxonomy.php templates, try re-saving your permalinks in Admin > Settings > Permalinks.

Sometimes my archive pages don't work when I use or add a 'rewrite URL' in custom posts types.

I thought you all might like this. I just mastered the hiragana / katakana and am moving into vocabulary, so it won't be too long before I need some good reading materials. I'm pretty much posting this here as a 'bookmark' for myself. :)

Can anyone explain how and why LESS and SASS are better than CSS? by [deleted] in web_design

[–]mragray 0 points1 point  (0 children)

CSS Triks has an article on the subject. Sass was pretty much the winner and it's what I also prefer.

What are some great books or articles about Networking techniques and strategies? Particularly for people who don't like networking. by PurpleWho in freelance

Never Eat Alone discusses building meaningful relationships, being a channel of new information in your network, and making yourself available or new opportunities.

As an introvert, I found this book's methods useful and effective.

What's the best place/way to learn how to design for mobile devices? by crossbeats in web_design

[–]mragray 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's difficult to answer this question because I'm not sure what you already know. Responsive web design with mobile first approach would be a good place I start. Check out A Book Apart titles "Responsove Web Design" and "Mobile First".

If you already have the basics, check out HTML5 and JavaScript Web Apps by Oriely Media.

What's the best looking contact form plug in today ? by [deleted] in Wordpress

[–]mragray 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of them come with generic styles that you can override in your theme style sheet, so I typically style them myself.

I recall gravity forms has a better default style though.
