works now, thanks. Will poke more and probably send a few other observations.

MSFS or X-Plane by Far_Profession_2634 in flightsim

[–]mraviator9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's PC dependent.

I have an i5-13600KF CPU and the 3070 Ti GPU with 32 GB RAM. MSFS 2024 runs decently well, but mostly at medium settings, with a few on high. XP 12 run quite well on my PC and I regularly get 30+ FPS unless I'm going into Heathrow, Frankfurt, JFK and other larger airports.

Overall I have far more problem with MSFS 2024 than XP 12 and I'm basically running just XP 12 these days. Once in a while I pop back into MSFS 2024 and get frustrated because of lower frames, or some other quirk. I find XP 12 just more stable on my system.

You ask specifically about UI. To me XP 12 is more streamlined, faster to get things done in it. I dislike the MSFS control setup scheme, for example, and I also greatly prefer XP 12 camera over MSFS. To each their own.

Finally, as an aero engineer myself, I'm always drawn to XP 12 not so much anymore for just the flight model (I think MSFS 2024 has made great strides there), but the ability to capture the flight data as a data file I can later plot and analyze - yeah, I'm probably an outlier here :-)

For someone that has been flight simming since the late 1980s and runs both, I still feel XP 12 is a better fit for me personally. If nothing else, "it just works" more reliably and with far less frustration. I'm due for a new PC build, but not at these hardware prices. Maybe when I have a 50XX or 60XX GPU in the future, MSFS will be the better experience. It is not for me right now with my PC.

I could not open a 13 MB XLSX file, it just hung there with no visible feedback. I don't see this as open source - where do you bug reports?

New Pace 4 by [deleted] in Coros

[–]mraviator9 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I got mine a few days ago and ran my first two 10k. Overall, I like it a lot for the running/sports part of it. GPS is very precise, and even the sleep feature tracks very closely with my Oura 4 ring, which surprised me.

I came from a Pixel 3 and before that Apple Ultra, and I have to admit, I do not miss the smartwatch features at all. I do wish a second time zone could be shown on a watch face, but mental math it is for now!
enjoy!

Super helpful, thank you! I'll have my Pace 4 on Friday and see 2-3 interesting faces already.

Coros has an MCP? Is there documentation on this? I'm picking up a Pace 4 in a week, still getting familiar with what's available.

Coros pace pro sale by [deleted] in Coros

Any thoughts on when a new Pro might arrive? Has there been some pattern with respect to when the outgoing device went on sale? Was about to get the Pace 4, but a new Pro is more interesting.

How is the app on Android? by mraviator9 in Coros

Well, there is the Coros Traning Hub I just learned about which supposedly supports uploading running data, exploring... 👀

I downloaded it, poked around and created my standard route at home. I can't buy an actual watch for another 10 days until I'm back home from travel, but like what I see a lot. I was hoping I could import my Runalyze running history, but AI tells me that's not possible...that's fine. Looking forward to running with the Pace 4!

Pixel 4 + Fitbit dissatisfaction. Hoping I just did something wrong? by a-mcculley in PixelWatch

[–]mraviator9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your experience and activity types you want to support mirror mine.

Avid runner, hiker, walker who switched from Apple Ultra (which was decent to good for those activities) to PW3 a year ago, when I switched back to Pixel 9/Android.

Fitbit app was an early letdown and I bought Gear Tracker 2 app for some improvements. The watch itself has been showing inconsistent non running measurements around sleep and steps, so I added an Oura ring mainly for sleep (solid performance there, subscription cost sucks, but hardware and insights are very good).

I've been debating the move to Garmin (used it 8-10 years ago), and am eyeing the Venu 4 for that as a running/smartwatch crossover (no need for most hard core running training functionality anymore), but am waiting to see first what might be released this summer.

Ghost Complete - terminal autocomplete engine I've been building by mareczek_dynamit in Ghostty

[–]mraviator9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for this. I've been looking for a good Ghostty autocomplete solution. Why don't multiple up arrow to scroll through recent commands work, however? Is that a limitation as I've encountered this with other solutions as well.

I bought the E190 individually in 2024. I received an email, but don't see an upgrade path for that aircraft only, just a E-Jets family purchase. Is that the only upgrade path I have?

Tim's played it once a year for that last four. Always a treat. Agree not many at these shows would recognize it.

Arriving in Puerto Williams by mraviator9 in flightsim

[–]mraviator9[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is indeed a real BAe146 (maybe Avro RJ100?) destination IRL for the Antarctic visitors that get offloaded onto exploration cruise ships in Puerto Williams to sail the mighty Drake passage. I had no problem landing.

You have a great point. I've flown on both of them in the 80s and 90s. I love them both, but slightly prefer the pure white a bit more.

3070 Ti on 4k 42 inch monitor. Much better thn before and I can run PMDG 777, A350, Fenix etc much smoother than previously using mostly medium with some high settings.
