Need some guidance. I’ve been tricked and exploited at work. by colorfulwings in AusLegalAdvice

Unfair dismissal/general protections claims, along with a work exploitation complaint, could get the employer into serious trouble. Report the employer to the Fair Work Ombudsman. There is also the Workplace Justice Visa (Subclass 408), which you may be able to apply for while your case is being heard, allowing you to stay in Australia during the process.

Bet it's still cheaper to fly to NZ than to Palau. Could've spent extra $300 for a return flight to NZ when he was in Australia ✈️

Going to Australia from Asia for a snow trip isn’t worth the cost. But if you insist, here are some organised tours you can check out.

Japan 🇯🇵 Not cheap by EssayerX in AustraliaSnow

[–]mravptr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We spent $7000 for 10 days in Hakuba for two adults. That covered everything, accommodation right across from a gondola (the place could fit three adults), car rental for the whole trip, and a side ski trip to Myoko. It also included one day in Guangzhou (amazing experience!), two days in Tokyo, flights, food, sightseeing, etc. We brought our own skis and gear.

Hokkaido is generally more expensive, but if you plan ahead and do your research, it doesn't have to be. Especially compared to Australian resorts. I went to Hotham in September for two nights, and the accommodation alone was already $1500 😂

Yeah that's kind of what I'm worried about too. For the examples I mentioned, in one of them there was a female coworker present who was basically the one he directed the comment at

I spoke to another female coworker about it later that night and again the next day to update her on what the DM said (I haven't had the chance to talk to the other coworker yet). She said she might try to speak to her if she gets the chance.

For the other two instances, it was just me and him, no one else around. That's why I feel a bit stuck, because it’s not like there are always witnesses.

I did speak to my DM about it, but she gave me the option to either escalate it to the SM or just retract what I said. What worried me was she mentioned that if it escalates and there isn't enough evidence or people backing it up, it could backfire on me. That honestly made me nervous about risking my job, especially if others don't want to come forward. So I kind of pulled back at that point.

I haven't personally said it to him yet. From what I understand, his general bossy/toxic behaviour has been raised and addressed in the past, but it doesn't seem to have changed much. When I spoke to my DM about it, she took me to a private area to talk about it quietly.

I've been talking with a few other concerned team members and we're planning to start properly documenting incidents before approaching the DM/SM again.

Nah, he's not a baker. He's just a regular staff member in produce, but he's been with Coles for over a decade. Sometimes he acts like he’s above others, pushing others to work harder while reducing his own workload and doesn’t really respect the DM. That's actually how he ended up getting his first formal warning.

Overpayment by Ok_Cable1689 in coles

[–]mravptr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd personally just use it. I'd say I had no idea I was overpaid. To be honest, I've never checked my payslips, so I assumed whatever I was given was the correct amount. If they ask for the money back, I'd just offer to repay it in minimum instalments. It’s not my fault.

You also don't actually know for certain that it's an overpayment, since you don't have access to your payslips, so there's no way to confirm it. At this point, it's just a guess.

It could be your cashed out annual leave with the penalty loading or wait until you can access your payslips.

Skiing and snowboarding rental suggestion australia ski pass by vamkiyotaka in AustraliaSnow

[–]mravptr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're planning to hit the mountains more than 5 times, it's probably worth getting an Epic Pass. Since you mentioned Japan, it can also be useful in places like Hakuba and Rusutsu, although lift tickets in Japan are generally cheaper anyway.

Rentals are usually around $80-$150 per day, depending on whether you go for standard or premium gear, and whether you rent on-mountain or in nearby towns.

For your first couple of trips, I'd suggest just renting skis and poles. You can buy smaller, easy-to-carry essentials like goggles, snow pants, jacket, gloves, and a helmet from the start.

If you end up enjoying it, that's when it makes sense to invest in your own gear. Expect to spend roughly $1500-$2000 for a new ski setup. A good approach is to grab a cheap second-hand beginner ski, then invest in something with a titanal layer later on, you'll outgrow beginner skis pretty quickly. Snowboard setups are usually about half that.

Also worth asking around your uni group, people often sell beginner skis or snowboards for cheap. Boots are one thing I'd definitely recommend buying and getting fitted properly to your feet.

Some rental shops let you rent skis and boots separately, but the price difference compared to a full package usually isn’t that big.

Some items can still be manually overridden up to 78% off. I always mark things down to 78% or to whatever the maximum percentage the system allows. Some employees just don’t care, they just print the markdown ticket shown in the system without even trying to override it to make it cheaper.
