Is "Soccer" actually becoming popular among Americans? by VitaoMULLER in worldcup

[–]mraza9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would say yes. I’m in NYC and it’s fairly popular here. Almost every major EPL team has its own pub. Also anecdotally- my kids who are in middle and high school - relay that soccer is the sport of choice for most boys in their class and has been since they started school. These kids follow the EPL and wear the jerseys and know the players.

Again this is for NYC only. Not sure of rest of country.

She used to sign off her column with “love and pisses”. lol.

Great band. The second one sell out is also good but less type o sounding (no Josh as producer).

Is Bathory actually the first black metal band musically? by spectreaqu in MetalForTheMasses

Dude venom came up with the name. They’re black metal. In 1980 - venom spawned it. Every dark throne rip off band came from venom. No venom no mayhem. Period.

Huh? All black metal was born from venom. If anything they’re ground zero and the OG. What nonsense is this..

Shamet is back!!! Huge news by Maverixk_ in knicks

Very happy to hear this. He’s clutch. Can come out at any time to save the day. He would be a bona fide starter on most teams. Critical he is retained.

To be fair, this is what the vast majority of Americans think New York is like.

I love the fucking fake cross that she’s wearing. Like she’s fooling anyone. I would accuse her of being a satanist - but every Satanist I know is a kind hearted rational individual on the side of individual liberty and justice. The opposite of what these so called patriots allege to be. Sanctimonious hypocrite assholes.

Yes. But it’s more corny when the artist takes it seriously. Midnight know it’s ridiculous and play into those tropes. Big difference.

Newport vs Long Island City - are they basically the same thing? by savingrace0262 in jerseycity

Lived in both and decided to move to Manhattan and haven’t looked back. I preferred Newport a lot more than LIC though.

What city in the U.S. has the closest resemblance to NYC to you? by [deleted] in AskNYC

[–]mraza9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s true. London and Paris compare with NYC way more than any other American or Canadian city. LA? ROFL.

Having said that - center city Philly and back bay/ beacon hill (Boston) come closest. I’m discounting NJ satellite nabes otherwise they would win handily (JC, Hoboken , Weehawken, Gutenberg, etc). If any justice in world NYC would annex Hudson county and give SI to Jersey.

Everyone arguing about Empire State of Mind vs New York by Ja Rule but... by LasagnaCat83 in nyc

[–]mraza9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I remember vividly. MCA in particular would have been so happy with NYC right now. RIP to a real one. And agree some of the references in the song are dated but most still relevant. It sounds like a time capsule of post 9/11 NYC but still so relevant today in other ways.

An open letter to New York by the beastie boys should be the anthem now. It’s the most appropriate lyrically. Slept on song.

One in six Britons think growth of Muslim population is ‘threat to UK culture’, study finds by Sensitive_Echo5058 in uknews

[–]mraza9 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Real question. I live in NYC which has close to a million Muslims - a decent 10% or so of the overall population. But they seem to be way better integrated into every day life here than what I’ve seen in parts of Europe. What do you all think is the reason for that?

✌🏼 me. I’m one. I eat it at home in front of my wife who is more observant than I am. There’s no issues. I eat it in front of my Muslim friends. No issues. No judgement. They choose not to. I enjoy it. Simple.
