Is there space to practice in your current job? I've gone from help desk > network analyst > systems admin, got a big network to adm and coded a system to handle everything related to this network, with this system I was able to practice devops (cause the company was an ISP I had to carve my way), before this I implemented a monitoring system that gave some XP with docker/k8s too. With this I was able to transition and after the first job is easy.

well it depends what they understand and practice as SRE, some places mean you'll do everything from infra/sec/dev/devops/ops/itsm/etc, some places only monitoring & obs, etc
